I'm not sure.
I want to say "The internet would be a better place," but something worse would most likely pop up eventually.
Not really - imagine the flood of subhuman scum being poured away from 4chan and onto the rest of us. Better to keep them all in one bucket and out of the way.
You people are stupid, 4chan is the place people go to be douchebags, its a front for Anonymous.

The money laundering happens in betting shops, but thats not where the money was stolen from in the first place.

Some people on here are Anonymous, they just dont advertise it, although they do spill their guts mentioning rules 1 and 2 alot (tripfags).

I mean, didn't they just crowd onto a site until the server crashed...thats nothing special, now if they hacked their website - that would be news worthy.
Didn't they DDoS their own site when boxxy was plaguing their site?
Yup. Chemo.

Finally some good coming out of pirate bays closure. The end of 4Chan, rejoice brothers for time of prophecy is at hand. We the chosen few will inherit the internet, as those who followed the ways of the fourchan will be cleansed.
Your post count says you've been here a while.

But your words say you're awfully naive.
Obviously someone dosen't believe in the prophecy.
Yup.

I'd say that most of the posters above and below you don't believe either.

I DON'T CARE EITHER B/C I DOESN'T AFRAID OF ANY MEME!
And lo I am not the other posters for as it was written in a CERFNET bathroom almost twenty years ago.

"And Lo, behold, for the Lord is powerful and great. Though many will in tern be corrupted by the ways of the internet the few shall perservere. Though this day may not be forthcoming when those who have sucumbed will behold the true extent of their shortcommings and will be purged from said internet. Then for those few faithful, they will inherit the internet and then there will be muffins, of blueberry chocolate and flavours unbeknownst to man."
Sadly, I believe 4chan will be shutdown - why sadly, you may ask?

"And Io, it was inscribed on the post-it note of cubical 7B, that when the great sewer of the internet was closed, the waste of the world began to flood the rest of the internet, scum and monsters spreading out across previously safe networks. Io, without their lair, the scum were restless and rose over the internet, destroying all in their path. So it was written, so it shall be"
But in scripture of the 12c cubicle it was speculated that without a place to embody themselves this wreckage would be unable to sustain a solid form, and where they did only see dark they would be forced into the light of the greater internet and that this would wash over this few. They would then be forced to see the error of there ways. Which would cleanse them, then there would be muffins of blue berry, chocolate and of flavours unbeknownst to man.

They'd just go to 7chan.
Business as usual.

I'd like to see what happens because of this, most likely nothing. Sounds hilarious anyways. Not really been on 4chan itself recently but I enjoy keeping up to date with the lulz.

As with the centre of our Galaxy, /b/ (though this could apply to 4chan in general rally) is the black hole that makes the tinterwebs go round...
At somepoint everything will end up there, so I'm sure if it was made to go byebyes the tinterwebs would just break...
In someways it is a terrible place, but... okies it is just a terrible place, but it's a morbidly amusing terrible place and you need a place like that in the world...
I hope it doesn't come to what most governments would love to have happen, IE controle over the internet, complete censorship like with TV, radio, every other medium we have in the world...
Not to sound paranoid, but it is what the world leaders would love, a 1984 Big-Brother society where no decenting vote or free voice can be heard... so they should just leave the residents of 4chan to their little world, they don't reallllllllllly actively hurt anyone, they are messed up, some obviously need help on /b/, but freedom of speech, it's up to them, so lets leave them to it...

How would one go about fighting anonymous?
You actually have a realy good point. No matter what there will still be some form of 4Chan out there, and becasue we have no clue who any of them are, they could be anywhere...

4chan is just a mask; a gathering place. if it was taken down, users would find or create new masks. 4chan users function much as a "cell". they are unknown, spread out, but can gather together to launch attacks. not unlike terrorists, but i'd like to see them as being more benevolent.

if we take on the assumption that 4chan is a problem (i personally don't believe it is), then like any other problem you would fight it at its core. but 4chan does not have a core, the users do not know each other and there are no references inbetween. tell me, how can you fight something you can't see or otherwise know where is?

refer to v for vendetta quote:
"behind this mask is more than flesh. behind this mask is an idea; and ideas are bulletproof."

(note: i have no affiliation with 4chan whatsoever)

Whoever wins this war, it's not going to end well. If 4chan wins, the rest of the Internet is going to be in fear of their power, and ifpi will likely never be able to prosecute pirates again; while I agree that their case against The Pirate Bay is a lost cause, I still think it's important to have these people there to at least try and do something about pirates. On the other hand, if ifpi wins, and 4chan is taken down... I don't want to think about what that will mean in terms of governments being able to regulate and monitor the Internet.

And, like many others have said, 4chan is unkillable. If it is taken down, the users will either start a new website, or they will spread, with disastrous consequences for websites like this.

As much as I hate to admit it, 4chan is pretty untouchable. They've got some of the biggest nerds in the world over there. And on the internet, nerddom is power. For the ifpi to take down 4chan would be like a lion trying to wrestle a great white shark. It may be fearsome on land, but try beating the shark in its own element and it's going down. That said, they won't get them taken down either. Nothing will come of it.

Also, they're only causing periodic and half-assed harm as it is now. Imagine giving them something to unite about, heh. Don't wake them up.
To be honest... I don't agree. Every war in history, including the gurellia ones, have ultimately boiled down to money and supply lines. Supply lines aren't really applicable in this case, so we're left with money. There is simply too much money involved for the IFPI to back away, and too much for 4chan to fight against in the courts. In the same way people reckoned pirate bay was untouchable, the same with 4chan.
I guess but the whole ifpi thing just makes me think of them as King Canute standing defiantly in vain in the sea.
