Sounds like the old strategy of punishing all the children for the actions of one child, to make the group resent the one child. I have never sent death threats to any feminist so why should I be punished?
Well yes, it is the same strategy, but if the people making the rape and death threats end up on the receiving end of a blanket party as a result, what is there to complain about?

Okay then, let's follow this train of logic. Steam goes offline for an hour, people resent who sent the death threats...so WHO sent the death threats? Who is everyone supposed to be mad at? Do people expect this to happen and then the guy responsible be all like "Ha HA, it was I! Behold your gamelessness, for I hate women so much I KILLED STEAM!", so that we can properly shun them?

No, he does NOT have a point.

You don't blame the victim. Period. This is not a hard concept.
So if someone puts on a sandwich board saying "send the blacks back to the cotton fields" and walks into Harlem, any reaction they get is completely not their fault?

Get out of here with this rubbish, if you intentionally antagonise people they will react.

Exactly, quoted this for truth. If you constantly harass the gaming industry demanding justice, you will get and deserve the exact opposite. A crusade needs to happen.

So if a man rapes a woman, all men should be jailed?

Because that's the same fucked up thought process you proposed.

Not just all men, all women too. Why deprive them of the opportunity to take a few swings at the rapist?

Yes blacking out Valve/Steam, one of the few companies I think really watch themselves when it comes to equal rights in their games and their workplace will absolutely help this situation.

What what?
Get. Out.

And your 'scrutinizing the evidence' is equally bullshit. I've no doubt she got those threats frankly. People on the internet are that despicable and batshit and nothing you outline or point out is at all damning.

So in short, I'm really not impressed by any of the content in this thread.

Crap from all angles.

Sure, let's play "find the rapist". I will do my utmost to rig the game against you for coming up with such poorly thought up idea.

I know there is around -1% chance of this happening with +-1% margin of error.

Still, I do hope this would happen. Just so all could finally feel what the certain someones would do if they could to gaming, ALL gaming, just to bring their political shit into it. Not only do they that crap poured down their every orifice every time they visit any gaming related site, now they also get to enjoy blackouts for it!

Jesus tap dancing Christ. Do you people even think before you type this stuff?

A crusade needs to happen?

Settle the fuck down, Pope Leo.

I didn't realize we were all unthinking beasts who had no control over our actions, and therefore can't be held accountable for them.

Again, I ask:
It is SO important if Steam is offline for only 1 hour?
I don't really play games much anymore ( back in College, not to mention I gave my Gaming PC away to my brother.) So it wouldn't affect me much.

But think of this. There are people with Job's that have shifts that are many hours long. There are people with Kids, who at times require constant care. There are people with wives, people with husbands, people with grandparents that require care, people with yard work to be done, people with annoying bosses calling you to work other peoples shifts, etc. There are people with a combination of these things.

Not enough time for themselves, your thinking right? Well, something happens? Someone decided to cover your shift? Your kids are out somewhere? Now it's time to play games and get the Me time you were neglecting.

Only to find that STeam is offline because of some SJW bullshit.

There are people who don't have much time for games. I'm sure if I was in their position, I would be so pissed, and prob ably be put off from helping Anita and their cause forever.

That's how I look at it.

Funny thing is that you're not a bad person for refusing to care about blacking out Steam over this since Valve has nothing to do with it.

Don't you understand?! Games don't make us violent and we will CRUCIFY anyone who says otherwise!

Seriously, all these recent threads with controversy over feminism and social justice in games makes me see that most gamers are just as much reactionary crazies as the people they complain about.

This is a petty playground argument of a bunch of over-dramatic nutjobs who think they're at war.

Why should they? We and they have paid money for this service, what right do they have to ask us to not be able to use the service we have paid for because of their beliefs which most of us do not hold?

If anything, the backlash from this would probably dwarf the actual problem at had (if it where real and not already shown to have been faked), and to be honest I'd hold absolutely nothing against the people doing it.

This is runaway trolling...

How ironic.
The oft-repeated mantra "Check your privilege" now best applies to the social justice fanatics supporting this petition.
And for once, it actually fits without pretense.

Yes.
Because if Steam blacked out for an hour, it means a major commercial entity and MILLIONS of people who aren't involved in the slightest would be harassed (irony) because of purely political reasons.

When outside political entities are being granted real power to DIRECTLY INTERFERE with otherwise private business operations, that isn't peaceful protest, that's duress.

Eh. It's hard to blame someone for punching a ************ when said ************ demands to be punched and won't take no for an answer. I mean yes, it's their fault they didn't have the self control to not punch them, but it's just as much the fault of the person asking for it.

If taking 10 seconds to think about the possible consequences of an action would reveal an obvious and negative result, and someone does it anyway, they forfeit their right to claim they're being victimized. It doesn't make the result any less negative or wrong, but there's no victim in the matter. There's only the jackass who provoked it and the jackass who obliged them.

Considering that Anita Sarkesian is one of the kind of people that seem to be a massive problem on the internet I'm going to have to say that combating harassment of her is a bad idea.

The hell? They want Valve to cut their profits and take responsibility for a few members of a community at the cost of the rest? This is a pretty deep level of stupidity. When there exists a community around a type of product, it should not be the distributors problem if a part of that community act like complete morons, it's the community's problem! And it's not Valve's duty or anything to act as some sort of parental figure and take responsibility for the actions of members of the gaming community, it's OUR responsibility to act when shitheads are being shitheads, as parts of the community those parasites leech onto.
