That's not really right. Most players are using body shields and soft shoulder pads. And there's a movement in Anzar camp to make scrum caps mandatory. While it is true that Football players wear pads the reason for this is because tackles that would be extremely illegal in Rugby (high tackles and stuff around the neck) are perfectly acceptable and players tend to hit harder. The danger for serious injury in both sports is actually about the same. Rugby just has a slightly higher chance for minor injuries because of the lack of a helmet and heavier pads.in response to your question.
