Well, I've been a PC gamer for my entire life, with exception to when I was given a ps2 randomnly by a friend...

So I've decided this christmas, I was going to get a console.

Now I know right off the bat, that there are "Fanboys" out there, who for reasons unknown (Parents didn't love them enough?) confuse opinion with logic, and flame. I know that there will be a bit of flames, but guys come on just be mature enough to aid me in my descision.
____________________________________________________________________________________________

I love games such as Ratchet and Clank, and shooters such as maybe Halo (I played the PC version and loved it.)

Things to keep in mind, I will not EVER be using online for either systems I want Singleplayer experiences.

I'm also on a rather thin budget for the consoles, as I'll need to buy the console and 1-3 games for it, which can get pricey.

Another factor, is that the default controller for the system, has to be kinda large as to quote Seinfield "I have Man Hands!", my hands are fairly large.

Another thing for the controller, this will require an answer from someone who owns both consoles I need to know the "Resistance" on the controllers analog, like I don't want something TOO smooth you know? Like I'd prefer if the analog had a stronger tendency to revert back to center.

Also if you can tell me the prices for each console and maybe some help as to what the heck is with the "360, Arcade, 360 something, 360 elite?) that's rather confusing, as isn't it the same console? Store prices for each ofcourse.

The library of games with very long lasting SINGLEPLAYER experiences. I know games like Halo, are almost primarily Multiplayer experiences (I think? I'm just infering here) so I'd very much apreciate if you could name some games on both consoles that A) Are good, and B) Have very replayable experience.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

I'm already slightly leaning towards the PS3 due to my childish love for Ratchet and clank (I have all of the ps2 titles loved all minus "Deadlocked" They took my clank!!! 8{ ) But i'm hearing some good things from my console friends about the 360 as well.

Please, as a honest to god request, do not quote others in this, unless you are adding on I sincerely do not want this to turn into a flame thread, as A) I'll look like a fellow that lives under a bridge, and B) Not get my answer, as all of they questions are plagued with hate and not fact.

Thanks guys! Please.... keep this mature...or as close as possible...

Just thought I'd add some PC games that I enjoy, so you get the feel as to what games I like.

Fable.
Fallout 3
Ut '04
Bioshock,
Mass Effect
Assasins Creed
Orange Box
Prototype
___________

And some games that I have for my PS2 that I enjoyed...

Ratchet and clank (Obviously :D )

Jak 2

God of War

...
Well Maxpayne, but I never beat it.

*Edit*

Actually, based off of the above list, if you wouldn't mind listing some games that'd suit my fancy, I can research them and fetch some opinions out of my friends :)

Thanks guys!

Above is the first post, from the posts I've decided upon the PS3 as it has a very good SP experience. Also, 360 shooters that I'd like would eventually be ported to PC anyways from which makes my inner PC gamer happy.

I'd now like to bluntly ask, which SINGLE PLAYER (can have a multiplayer function, but mainly singleplayer) games should I get?

Thanks for keeping the flames from burning my thread :)

~dududf

*Edit*

List so far of possibles

Ratchet and clank: Tools of Destruction

Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time

Metal Gear Solid 4

More suggestions would be nice! I'll edit them in when I get them, and research a little.

Alright!

Thanks guys :D I think I have everything I'm going to need for now, choosing PS3, the 2 ratchet and clank games for the PS3, and MGS4. That should last me a while :p

If you're just going for singleplayer, then I'd go with a PS3. Lots of great games. inFamous should be at the top of your list.

Is that not same/similar to Prototype? I already have that for PC :D

It's kind of similar. Definitely not the same. I like it much better.

For a single player "experience" nothing is quite like MGS4 on the PS3, just have popcorn for the movies between the acts on your first play through.

I have "pianists" hands, I love the PS3 controller, just the right size and weight.

Other single player games Heavenly Sword, God Of War, a lot of PS1 classics off the PSN.

I will say though, from what I've seen cross platform games do get shafted (ever so slightly) in the graphics department, however with each passing year the playing field is leveled.

Just toss a coin. It really doesn't matter too much.

If you want something completely different from PC gaming though, get a Wii.

Or hell, get an N64. Still remains my favourite console.
I didn't mention it, but my sister has a Wii... I dislike it... Not enough good games X_X

And as to the n64... I'm not a graphics whore per say, but that would be kinda hard to play on when I'm playing borderlands and such and even then I think the n64 was lacking on shooters QQ

Also come to think of it, wouldn't buying a new N64 be exspensive? they don't make them anymore and wouldn't be in stores...

Nah, they're like 20 bucks if you know where to buy them. But tell me, where the hell did you find Borderlands for the N64?

You should do what I did. Choose which ever console that you have the most friends playing online. I was an avid pc gamer but most people at my work play xbox 360 online and so i got that. And every game I have gotten since then has been for the 360.
Not trying to be rude, but I think I stated several times in the OP that I'm looking for a Singleplayer experience...

That last part made me lol.

I must've said it funny, I intended to say after I've been playing Modern games, it'll be hard to revert back to old graphics.

Metal Gear and Final Fantasy.

Pretty sure I'm going to get a PS3 just for those once Gran Turismo 5 comes out.
(Not playing FF on a 360, same as I wouldn't play Fable on a PS3.)

Humor is what I aim for :D

Well, I went from playing Borderlands and TF2 to playing the original Pokemon Red Version for a good while to relive nostalgia. Truly, the horrid graphics only made me love it more. Oh, and if you have a chance, check on the original sprite for Golbat. Man, he looked insanely weird.

The 360 has more games for it but a lot of the are multiplayer reliant for length. The PS3 has really good quality exclusives. The 360 is cheaper but not by much.If you get a PS3 get the slimline. The PS3 also has a bigger memory i think.

Personally i'd get a PS3.

Then I'm not sure why the answer needs to be any more complicated than "Choose the console that has the largest list of games that seem interesting or compelling to you." Five minutes with Google will provide a simple and edifying research experience on the topic.

If online doesn't matter, it comes down to the exclusives.

I personally prefer the 360 for its games and controllers as well as the content available on the XBL marketplace. Also, some developers have issues with the PS3's more complex architecture, so multiplatform games often don't turn out as well on the 360 compared to the PS3, at least until they're patched.
But there's nothing wrong with the PS3, generally.

Another factor since you mentioned your hands is that the 360 controller does have more heft and feels a lot sturdier. The PS3 controller is lighter, and the close-set analog sticks can feel less comfortable to me at times. People who prefer the dualshock3 say the 360's offset analog sticks are stupid and less intuitive to use but I find it far more comfortable. I just wish they were convex instead of concave, because the sticks do tend to wear out after awhile (ie: a year or so) which can reduce your grip. A common mod (at least the most commonplace mod after rapidfire mods) is to replace the normal sticks with convex ones.

Out of curioisty, if I did end up choosing PS3, would it be at all possible to mod it somehow? Are there alternate controllers for people with "Man Hands"?

Just incase :)

While the xbox 360 has amazing games out, the PS3 has some some colossal games coming out soon(ish) e.g. God of war 3, The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy XIII.

But if you have Ps2 I'd make sure you've played these first:persona 3&4, Shadow of the colossus, Ico, Resident Evil 4, the Final Fantasy games, metal gear solid 2&3, Silent hill 2,3,4

But you seem to like shooters which is the 360's strong point e.g. Halo, Call of Duty (runs better on 360 than on ps3), Gears of War (not my cup of tea), Bioshock (Runs better on 360 than on PS3), Condemned, Crackdown... the list goes on.

Google won't tell me first hand experience, and answer all of my questions at the same time.

Where as a person who does indeed own a console should be able to tell me the problems and the ups.

Also consider most google results will end up as Fanboy posts, and thus be entirely unreliable.

Some third party controllers can be vastly different in their heft and grip, but generally all dualshock controllers are fairly uniform because the last thing a third party hardware company wants to do is alienate their potential audience by making a knockoff that nobody recognises or likes because it's unfamiliar.

Short answer: No.
