All 3 next gen consoles have there ups and downs.

Though people often put the Wii down there's great catalogue of games simply because of backwards conpatability with the gamecube. Grab 4 gamecube controllers (I got 4 3rd party ones for £8) and a second wii controller and numchuk. From there there a few escencial games to get; Mario-Kart Double Dash, Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Bros Melee, New Super Mario Bros, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy and No More Heroes. I will say though that's probably the weakest of the choices. Don't let the original price fool you, you'll have to throw in some doe to get the most out of this one.

Xbox 360 I personally think you be the best choice (it's certainly mine). There's a HUGE catalogue of games to choose from, my favourites being Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4, the Orange Box, Batman Arkham Asylum and so many others. I will say that 360 has a lot more to offer on live, even if your not a multipler kind of guy such as DLC, Arcade and Xbox Originals. It also has a few added bonuses, like the best, most comfortable controller of the lot. The bad sides of the console remain the sound it makes (I though being a console gamer ment I didn't have to listen to that bloody fan) and the unreliability of the system. I've only red lighted once, but I'm one of the lucky ones.

The PS3 is a console that I think only recently has managed to find it's legs. The high price of this console means that your purchase is really going to have to relie on exclusives. Ratchet & Clank, LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, God of War, Heavy Rain, the Last Guardian and Metal Gear are the ones to look out for. Unless the majority of these titles interest you your basically buying a very expensive 360 with a few luxerys. The graphics difference isn't really that noticable, and it's still a step down from the high end PCs. But, thoughs are still some great exclusives, and disregarding the price it's the best console this generation. And anyway as I've never owned a PS3 I'm pretty much talking shit.

Get more games for your PS2.

Seriously man, there's like, a million PS2 games out there with fantastic single player.

If you're dead-set on getting a new console, just see what games on each console appeals to you.

Remember kids: to get the most out of your Wii, you're going to need a few female deer.

(Sorry for the double post, but that misspelling is HILARIOUS.)

EDIT: Also, your summation is pretty accurate.

Playstation 3 for singleplayer.

The only singleplayer game for 360 (If your not into Jrpgs)that I can think of is fable 2, but I don't recommend buying a console for 1 game.

Playstation 3 on the other hand, has quite a few good singleplayer games.

Uncharted 2 (It has multiplayer, but they haven't scaled down a single bit on the single player just because of that)
Uncharted (Duh)
Little Big Planet (It's a kind of multiplayer game, but it's no difference from the singleplayer, and once you've got an idea for a level, it can be really addicting, just trying to finish the level, and adding more and more to it)
God of War 3 (Coming next year though. But it'll still rock ^^)

My list isn't very long, because almost every ps3 singleplayer game has mulitplayer, even though the singleplayer is really good.
Hope that won't be a problem to you though.

PS3, you can pretty much get all the 360 games on PC too. And Live is a big step down from steam since it's full of kids and has like no dedicated servers on its exclusives.

Is that not same/similar to Prototype? I already have that for PC :D
It's the same in the sense that GTA4 and Saints Row are 'the same'.

If you want something like what you get on your PC, 360 is the way to go, if you wants something drastically different, then you have the Wii. The PS3 doesn't do much different, but it offers up slightly different content than the 360, so that may be the best route.

Well, I've been a PC gamer for my entire life, with exception to when I was given a ps2 randomnly by a friend...

So I've decided this christmas, I was going to get a console.

Now I know right off the bat, that there are "Fanboys" out there, who for reasons unknown (Parents didn't love them enough?) confuse opinion with logic, and flame. I know that there will be a bit of flames, but guys come on just be mature enough to aid me in my descision.
____________________________________________________________________________________________

I love games such as Ratchet and Clank, and shooters such as maybe Halo (I played the PC version and loved it.)

Things to keep in mind, I will not EVER be using online for either systems I want Singleplayer experiences.

I'm also on a rather thin budget for the consoles, as I'll need to buy the console and 1-3 games for it, which can get pricey.

Another factor, is that the default controller for the system, has to be kinda large as to quote Seinfield "I have Man Hands!", my hands are fairly large.

Another thing for the controller, this will require an answer from someone who owns both consoles I need to know the "Resistance" on the controllers analog, like I don't want something TOO smooth you know? Like I'd prefer if the analog had a stronger tendency to revert back to center.

Also if you can tell me the prices for each console and maybe some help as to what the heck is with the "360, Arcade, 360 something, 360 elite?) that's rather confusing, as isn't it the same console? Store prices for each ofcourse.

The library of games with very long lasting SINGLEPLAYER experiences. I know games like Halo, are almost primarily Multiplayer experiences (I think? I'm just infering here) so I'd very much apreciate if you could name some games on both consoles that A) Are good, and B) Have very replayable experience.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

I'm already slightly leaning towards the PS3 due to my childish love for Ratchet and clank (I have all of the ps2 titles loved all minus "Deadlocked" They took my clank!!! 8{ ) But i'm hearing some good things from my console friends about the 360 as well.

Please, as a honest to god request, do not quote others in this, unless you are adding on I sincerely do not want this to turn into a flame thread, as A) I'll look like a fellow that lives under a bridge, and B) Not get my answer, as all of they questions are plagued with hate and not fact.

Thanks guys! Please.... keep this mature...or as close as possible...
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Just thought I'd add some PC games that I enjoy, so you get the feel as to what games I like.

Fable.
Fallout 3
Ut '04
Bioshock,
Mass Effect
Assasins Creed
Orange Box
Prototype
___________

And some games that I have for my PS2 that I enjoyed...

Ratchet and clank (Obviously :D )

Jak 2

God of War

...
Well Maxpayne, but I never beat it.
______________________________________________________________________________________
*Edit*

Actually, based off of the above list, if you wouldn't mind listing some games that'd suit my fancy, I can research them and fetch some opinions out of my friends :)

Thanks guys!

Above is the first post, from the posts I've decided upon the PS3 as it has a very good SP experience. Also, 360 shooters that I'd like would eventually be ported to PC anyways from which makes my inner PC gamer happy.

I'd now like to bluntly ask, which SINGLE PLAYER (can have a multiplayer function, but mainly singleplayer) games should I get?

Thanks for keeping the flames from burning my thread :)

~dududf

*Edit*

List so far of possibles

Ratchet and clank: Tools of Destruction

Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time

Metal Gear Solid 4

More suggestions would be nice! I'll edit them in when I get them, and research a little.
Neither, if you want to play singe player then don't go for a console, the majority of games are online focused. First person shooters on consoles last no longer than 8 hours, if that. Unless you're a fan of JPRG's there won't be many games that will last longer than 10-12 hours. If you are a fan of JRPG's then 360 is the way to go.

Your best bet, in my opinion, is to stick with your PC. Perhaps stick with the PS2 and get some good platform games. No point in upgrading unless you use the online features, these days.

PS3 all the way. Xbox 360 definitely has an edge over online, but since you would not go online, PS3. I would recommend on getting a Slim. There's a pretty good deal going on all around with the new 120gb model, that would be perfect for you. Here are a few games as well:
LittleBigPlanet - A very platforming game, utilizes physics and simplistic controls very well. But there is a very strong focus on community involvement, so if you're not going to go online at all, (remember, PS3 is free online, so no big probs!) I would take it with a pinch of salt if you were to buy it.
Any Ratchet and Clank - I haven't yet played any Ratchet and Clank on PS3, but they have all had really good reviews.
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune - It's a third person shooter, but it is amazingly polished and refined in graphics, sound, gameplay, and replayability. (I recommended this because you have a small-ish budget, so if you can afford Uncharted 2, you'd be better off sticking with 2.)

I'll summarize the consoles for you:
Xbox 360: Intuitive user interface, FPS's galore, refined and quality online. However, it is restricted. No bluetooth means that you can only use Microsoft pheriphals, and Microsoft hard drives. Also, the console and controller is specialized for FPS's, so there isn't as much variety in games.
PS3: Good user interface, free online downloads and multiplayer, large variety in games, bluetooth so you can use your own webcams and Madcat controllers. However, the online is not as refined as Xbox Live, and the slims have been known to be defective, (low production values.) Although the defects are still no big problem.

Oh so like, they are both sandboxes, they both feature charecters "upgrading" and both have parkour(ish?)movement and both have bad stories? cool :)

Already decided on the PS3, as most 360 games that would catch my internet, eventually get ported to my ideal console. PC :D (Any consolodation I'm using a microsoft OS ? XD )

Steam is awsome!

And to be fair, both consoles have histaricly dumb idiots, so it's not fair to compare on "who's more dumb".

Also Steam DOES, have dedicated servers for most valve games (that what you meant?) hell you can download a tool, and make your computer a dedi server easily if you wish.

Now as a general response to all I've quoted, I wouldn't say no to some game suggestions, and didn't you read my new OP ? I left my OLD OP in spoilers, as you can read it for the giggles, I'm now curious as to which games would float my boat. :D

You've already got the system with the best graphics and online capabilities. Going to a 360 or PS3 would just be a downgraded experience of the same thing. The Wii offers something at least slightly different. I personally enjoy it a lot, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Plus it plays Gamecube games, making it the only console that's actually backwards compatible this generation.

Orange Box and Prototype, too. So really, there are only two exclusives listed there. I don't mean anything by that, I'm just saying -- though it is odd to say "there are more like these on Xbox" when there are only a pair of exclusives in that lot. In any case, PC and Xbox 360 share a lot of "exclusives" being that they are Microsoft backed. Basically, you won't find God of War on a computer any time soon, but you will find all of the games you mentioned, so you've answered your own question.

If online doesn't matter, it comes down to the exclusives.

I personally prefer the 360 for its games and controllers as well as the content available on the XBL marketplace. Also, some developers have issues with the PS3's more complex architecture, so multiplatform games often don't turn out as well on the 360 compared to the PS3, at least until they're patched.
But there's nothing wrong with the PS3, generally.

Another factor since you mentioned your hands is that the 360 controller does have more heft and feels a lot sturdier. The PS3 controller is lighter, and the close-set analog sticks can feel less comfortable to me at times. People who prefer the dualshock3 say the 360's offset analog sticks are stupid and less intuitive to use but I find it far more comfortable. I just wish they were convex instead of concave, because the sticks do tend to wear out after awhile (ie: a year or so) which can reduce your grip. A common mod (at least the most commonplace mod after rapidfire mods) is to replace the normal sticks with convex ones.
Out of curioisty, if I did end up choosing PS3, would it be at all possible to mod it somehow? Are there alternate controllers for people with "Man Hands"?

Just incase :)
There are ways of modding the controller if you're willing to modify or buy accessories, but your best bet is to look for 3rd-party controllers that are bulkier. I've seen some, but forget what they're called. Also, there is an accessory kit that turns the L2 and R2 buttons into longer, curved triggers. I have that, and it's awesome but I find I only ever need the right trigger for shooters. The texting accessory could add weight, but you could also in a pinch look for/self-mod a controller with lead weights in empty spaces. It may or may not affect performance. Dualshock3 is as heavy as a PS2 controller, heavier than the featherweight sixaxis controller.
I reiterate, your best bet is in a 3rd-party controller. Best of luck!

Upcoming:

ModNaton Racers - LittleBigCartRacing, awesome
Heavy Rain - from the makers of Ferenheit and the same type of game so it should be pretty mind-blowing unless the last part of the game makes your character go super-saiyan again
God of War 3 - he rips off a guys head with his hands
The Last Guardian - from Team ICO, and when have their games been anything but amazing?
Twisted Metal
White Knight Chronicles
Gran Turismo 5

The best thing for me is, not very many of them are mindless shooters made for ADD kids that are too common these days, and most of them are in a wide variety of genres. Plus you get all the multiplat single player games like Assassins Creed 2. It's by far the best system to make a nice gaming combo with your PC. Well, it is for me anyway.

I don't think Prototype is for PS3, anyway, many of the games that DID come out for PS3 in that list came out a year or more later, when they were already old news

That is a lot of time for them to be exclusively 360, and I think it makes a lot of difference

Actually, Assassins Creed and Fallout 3 came out at the same time for the Ps3 and 360, only Bioshock came a year later, and Prototype is on the Ps3. Plus Fable is the only game there that is exclusive, the rest were on PC too so he's probably already played them. Just saying.
