I call dibs on the ground. So, maybe you and I don't pay each other?
I call water! Since there's more of it than there is ground. No ships in mah domain! Mwahaha!

I could get in on that bargain

This is one time I'm definitely on the side of the big dogs. Activision-Blizzard should just use their armies of lawyers to crush these people, or at the very least tie it up in litigation for decades.

Ugh...this again?
Could we include, somewhere in the Patent Troll law that's going to crop up because of this, that anyone filing such a lawsuit gets one large slap upside the head? Seriously...

100% transparent tactic is 100% transparent. There was a similarly ridiculous attempt to sue Disney after Dead Man's Chest became an international hit, and the suit from Batman, Turkey that attempted to overthrow The Dark Knight following its monstrous raid on worldwide box office earnings.

Pathetic.

"patent trolling to some degree."

"After falling down the curiously constructed stairwell on the east side of the Shinra building, the old lady was treated for bone-fracture.. to some degree".

I mean, you just have to put it in there, right, just in case it really wasn't that serious after all. Could be it just was her hip, and then you'd be really out on a limb there with assessments like "bone-fracture", after all. Completely understandable.

After all, otherwise you might get sued.

This is a major issue with "software" patent laws....they last friggen forever and are made to be stupidly vague and broad allowing assholes who have waited almost a decade to enforce their patent.

I have a feeling this "violation" will hopefully fall under the....you waited too damn long to enforce your ownership of this concept that happens with copyright and trademark laws.

The expanded patent describes "a method and a system for a distributed electronic tournament system in which many remotely located players participate in a tournament through input/output devices connected to a central controller which manages the tournament."

When will patent offices refuse these vague-as-fuck claims?

This arse-gravy of a patent pretty much covers every single online tournament that exists, quite why they've waited all this time to actually file a law suit probably wont come as a big surprise. They must have been waiting for the big money to be there before taking action.

Patent Trolls, Companies patenting the human-fucking-genome, the excessive length of IP and Copyright, and vague nonsense common sense patents are the reason the entire Intellectual Property system needs a massive overall.

Just one step closer to world domination! HAHAHA!
Well, I guess I'll patent matter and energy then...
We shall name ourselves... The Evil League of Evil! It will be glorious!

I should patent games that allow a user to play as an avatar in a single player experience, with programmed AI as protagonists and/or allies. Excellent.

Well, I have a feeling they're going to lose. Activision has about enough money to buy every lawyer on the planet.

WoW isn't really a tournament though moreover as it is a giant version of Oblivion that can sometimes allow one faction to face off against another. Not so much of a tournament as it is a duel.

Oh, and i see they are actively using my patent!

"Usage of nonsensical patent laws with presence of bullshit against others, with goal in filling wallets with unruly gained currency"

As much as i hate Activision, i'm with them in this one. I hate this patent idiocy. Zynga can fall, fate of casuals is not relevant to me.

Sorry guys, but IBM already applied to patent patents, so you're all out of luck with all those patents. -> http://www.tomshardware.com/news/ibm-patents-the-patent,11868.html

Let the Patent Wars begin.
