stuff this I'm moving it along, I would've liked at least one response by now though but meh D: so may the true story begin rather than the pre-story to it
The lightening changes to a violent red colour upon the horizon. War drums are heard pounding under the approaching cloud.
Several white banners are seen fluttering in the raising winds, followed by the appearance of tall twisted shells of creatures. Standing as tall as castles with many Altrin on their backs.
Chants are heard even from the distance emanating from the backs if the...giants from the castle.
Prepare! comes a shout from a gate guard upon watching the approaching horde, tell the King! And the group, they may have been found out!
Several guards disperse from the courtyard to try and alert the others to what's happening.
Fredrick! The Altrin are here! yells the guard approaching his room, he bursts into the room panting now, You...and...the others need to...leave now!
"What?!" he screams back at him, "how could we not have found out earlier?!"
The guard shrugs, they...appeared as far as we can tell...
Fredrick snaps his hand up, "take the others to the stable we ride out as soon as we can!"
Yarr, we're not in this for the fight...if anyone tries to stand and fight they will die trust me...all we can do is run, more shall be revealed after we get to safety...maybe >.>
Lucidas wakes as he is being dragged across the floor toward the stables by the 2 guards who were posted at his door, he looks up and asks "Good morning, where are we going?" to which one of the guards replies "There is about to be an attack, you must leave NOW! The others are being told to go to the stables too.". Lucidas scratches his head and says "Okay, now... why are you dragging me? I would have been happy to run away.", the guards pick him up and push him through the door leading to the stables.
Are the Altrin riding these? [http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/3009/921063-34_super.jpg] Because that would be freakin' awesome. xD
Paldo was afraid he had eaten too much that night- which wouldn't have been a first. But he felt ill as he tossed and turned in the very large bed provided for him. Visions of darkness and ravens, harbingers of death, frittered through his mind in a panicked flurry. He wandered through plains littered with corpses like sand on a beach, with nary a living being or plant in sight. Clouds of grey stormed overhead, laced with tongues of fire that trapped him within this hell. He began to run, when he felt a cold hand grip his ankle- no, his wrist!- and wrench him upward. Opening his eyes, a lantern bearing a tender flame hung inches from his face, lighting the face of a guard in his gleaming suit.
"Up! Wake up, Oktra! The king and Frederick summon you!"
"T-The king? Shouldn't the king be resting? Shouldn't I be resting?"
"Do not waste my time, Oktra," said the man, stern but not rudely, "for then you should waste your life, and mine!"
Still blinking in weary confusion, Paldo allowed the guard to grab his hand and tug him down the halls. He was fortunate to have had fallen asleep in his clothing, and was able to swipe his belt and slip on his boots in a matter of seconds. Still rubbing the sleep from his eyes like a small child, when he opened them again, a wooden door was pulled open and Paldo brought inside. It was a stable, lined with rows of horses that stood tall and dignified, with a regal air that he rarely saw in animals. He was left by the guard within the stables, as the man hurried down the lane and began pulling various steeds from their stalls to dress them in tack.
Bewildered and confused, Paldo remained still, staring up at the horses in fright. There might be a few ponies that would fit his size, but he had never ridden such a beast. He glanced about the stable, wondering what on earth was happening.
As Arri and Eiravel admired a panting a guard appeared. He reached out and spun the princess around, causing Eiravel to react suddenly and sever the mans hand at the wrist. His bloody blade spun back around and found his pale face.
"We are. . under attack. . . get to the stables" He choked out in pain.
" Lets Go!" he cried pulling the princess down the hall. His saber blade glinted in the light as he ran prepared to give his life for Arri.
Arri was beginning to panic. She looked in horror as they began to run towards the stables, the man still lying on the floor, squinting in pain. "Did he say that we are being attacked? Are the Altrin attacking this kingdom?"
When the pair arrived at the stables Eiravel helped Arri her onto her horse. "Where are we supposed to go?!"
The sound of voices, fair and delicate, yet strong as refined steel, reached Paldo's ears as he huddled within one of the empty stalls. Glancing around the corner, he spotted two elves- the same pair who had shown their faces at dinner with nary a laugh. They appeared panicked. No... that was the wrong word. Concerned, perhaps, but elves did not panic.
Leaning out of the stall, Paldo looked to the elves as they mounted their mighty steeds with great speed of duty. He took a step toward the closest of the two, the fair elvish maiden. Her demeanor was peculiar, both intimidating but with an air of young curiousity. Gently, he tugged upon the tip of her shining boot, as that was as high as Paldo could reach.
"Forgive me, miss, but I'm a fair bit confused. Are we in danger? Where are we to go?"
Arri looked at her sword and nodded to Eiravel. "Of course I do." Feeling a tug on her boot she looked down. She noticed the small Oktra standing beside her horse.
"I'm not sure Paldo. I just know that we are not safe here. If you do not have your own horse then you can travel with me."
She lowered her hand to Paldo so that she could lift him onto the horse. "Do you know where the others are Paldo?"
Luckily for Bombur, he had not gone to sleep early like some of the others, taking advantage of the fresh bread and meats. He had just finished making his final sandwich, 7 for him, with meats and cheese and horseradish, and 3 for his little Oktra friend, vegetables, spreads and nuts galore.
"Excellent, the sandwiches are made for me and Paldo, now it is time for bed!" Bombur stuffed the sandwiches into his pack, pulling his hood over his head and grabbing his axe, he head out of the dining hall and toward his room when he spotted the intimidating elf pulling the beautiful princess away.
"Now what are you doing elf?" spat Bombur, suspiciously eying the tall elf, "Shouldn't your princess be sleeping and you watching over her like a poor, lost little kitty cat?"
"Quit talking and get to the stable dwarf, there is an emergency and we must escape the
castle!"
"Emergency? Escape? What in the name of Thor's hammer are you talking about?" the human shot back a less than entertained look, "Well what exactly is happening, and what of my new friends?"
"Everyone is accounted for, just follow me!"
Bombur had no choice but to follow the man and the elves, they walked with long strides and Bombur trotted behind them.
Just pretend this post was before you guys got to the stable.
Struggling to keep his lower lip from trembling, Paldo shook his head. He swallowed stiffly, then managed to reply, "N-No, they must still be on their way here." He hesitated before taking the elf woman's hand, not eager to be upon the back of a horse again. Nevertheless, he accepted, and with remarkable strength Arri managed to lift the Oktra from the ground and place him gently on the saddle in front of her, holding the horse's reins on either side of him. Gripping the saddle horn tightly, he grimaced, feeling uneasy beneath the shifting horse. Trees he could manage- but these animals? Never!
Just as he felt this night was turning for the worst, a familiar face approached out of the corner of his vision, who he had not noticed in his panic. An uneasy smile spread to his face. "Bombur!" Paldo cried, looking down to the dwarf. "Funny, isn't it? You're quite small from way up here!"
"The other's better hurry. If they want us to flee the castle the enemy numbers must be vast and the meager human guards will not be able to hold them back for long."
He looked over at the Oktra "Listen to Princess Arri and you will survive little one. Well if you listen to the princess and stay behind me you will survive."
He looked at the dwarf,
"Did you not bring a mount?"
A sly smile spread across his lips "An ass might be better suited for a man of your stature my friend."
"What a splendid idea my fine, fairy of a friend, why don't you dismount, come down here, put a saddle on your back and I shall ride you out of the castle?" Bombur puffed his chest up and continued, "I suppose it would be difficult to bend over that far anyways with that arrow up your rumpus!"
"Enough! The two of you have to stop bickering so we can get organized, the castle must be evacuated!" yelled one of the guards, "Bombur, there is a horse that is shorter than the others, you ma have that one, now get over there and be ready to go!"
"And the other rock muncher?" Eiravel said with an amused smile on his face as he saw the dwarf eye the horse, "Are they going to ride together? If one dwarf on a horse is this much fun, two on one must be better!"
He started to chuckle, "But we are in a hurry so mount up quickly my friend."
Paldo looked from the tall elf to the stout dwarf, a little confused, to say the least. Did the pair know one another, or had they had a conflict in his absence? Their quarreling was a bit confusing, to say the least.
Glancing around the small group, he began to see a problem. For one, he noticed the absence of the other Oktra he had met- the young Alexis- and his heart plummeted. "I don't see the others... We're going to wait for them, aren't we?" Paldo craned his head around to look at Arri, his face innocent but scared. "Aren't we?"
Paldo hasn't really been exposed to racism before, though he does have his biases or stereotypes against the races for what he's learned of them in stories. So he might be acting as a bit of a mediator between the group.
Erir ran down the corridors. He'd only just arrived in his room when the alarm had sounded, having made good on his promise to keep away from the place as much as possible. Pausing only to sling his gear on his back, he'd quickly raced to find the others. He heard bickering coming from the stables and headed straight towards it. True enough, he found the shouty elf and one of the dwarves yelling at each other. They seemed to be in the process of leaving. One of the elves turned to Erir.
"Have you got a mount?" he asked.
"No, no need." Erir cast the enchantment he'd used earlier such that he could skip alongside even the fastest horses despite his diminutive size. "Will we be waiting for the others?" he asked, although he knew it was likely they would not. With the Altrin closing in there was no sure way to know whether or not the others had already escaped or were still inside, it was too risky to stay.
Arri smiled kindly to Paldo, trying to reassure him as best she could. "Of course we will Paldo. No one will get left behind. I promise." Arri knew that she was promising too much. After all, the kingdom was under attack, so she couldn't possible know who was still alive.. and who was not.
Shan, Arri's mare, stirred slightly when she heard the rather loud noises coming from within the castle.
"[small]Where will we go...[/small]" Arri muttered.
We were not arguing but jabbing at each other. Like calmly making fun of each other so "shouty" is not a good adjective for us.
"Were ever we must to stop them." Eiravel said with distance in his voice. The noises from the castle drew out that inner calm, he was falling into his warrior self again. He could feel the adrenaline start to race, he remembered the battles and wars he had seen since a kid. If it wasn't for the princess, he would have staid and fought, even if that meant his death. The battle lust grew and he could feel his blades call out for him.
"We need to get away from the battle as soon as possible. I don't think the Oktra or the Princess will be able to last in a full out battle." He looked at the human guard then back to the dwarf, "They have never seen battle before."
Remember that is partially based of my character's only other real experience of you, when he revealed Lucidas and it is only a joke. Since my character hasn't really met yours yet, it would be a bit odd to call you by your name.
this posting I like! and this post is more of a little plot point...well a rather large one >.> and if the others haven't posted by tonight I'll just pull them out of the castle so we keep going.
A black cloaked figure walks through the halls of the Castle, surrounded by a large group of armed Altrin soldiers. STOP! screams one of the guards outside the Throne room. The figure mutters something then flicks his hand across the air in front of him.
Several blue streaks fire from his hand and wrap around the guards, the begin to writhe in agony as the magic tears outwards through their armour, removing their features as it slowly kills them. Ever approaching the door, the figure signals for the soldiers with him to open the door.
The King is sitting in his throne idly staring at the figures in the doorway. So they were right.. he sighs deeply, it was true.
"Get him..." snarls the figure, "and yes, it was true, now tell me what you know, and you may live..." he growls as the soldiers approach the King, weapons drawn.
Fredrick bursts out the doorway to the others in the stable, now in his armour. "Where are the others?" he asks looking around the dwindled group.
"Don't tell me they've been taken?" he asks the others, "guards...please go and find them," he grunts to the Captain that brought him out. He nods then calls out to the other guards and they disappear back into the castle.
"There is a safe place we can go...but we must wait for the others," he glances around furtively, "it's not even in Dresha though..." he trails off as a thunderous crack emanates from above the castle.
