This gen for me, is a huge gap between hit and miss. I generally like the Pokemon and I especially love the steel girder weilding guy, the sea turtles, the chandelier ghost, the cutesy hermit crab evolving into WEARING A GIANT STONE SLAB, the seasonal deer, and the new jellyfish replacement for tentacool. However, a lot of the "trio" sets are horrendous abominations and some designs are just too bizarre for me to like, like the dragon with heads for hands, or the ice cream cone. However, I figured many of the Pokemon have gotten more humanoid or industrial as the game is set in a more industrial zone. Plus, they really put some effort into type variety this time around and the number of each type of Pokemon is fairly uniform, perhaps more weighed to psychic and fighting types this time around. In fact, the amount of water types is, dare I say it, shallow! Overall, I'm pleased that Game Freak is trying to offer a very new Pokemon experience even with the pitfalls of making adequate replacements for the overused Pokemon (zubat, geodude, machop, magikarp, and tentacool all come to mind and many of them bar magikarp have a very similar Pokemon this gen to replace them).

But what the hell, an ice cream cone? Could they really not think of any more ice themed Pokemon for the winter season?

Stop protecting the new super shitty awful Pokemon designs. There are no nostalgia glasses.
Sure a handful old designs weren't all that good as well but this?
THIS?

Their design team should be hanged for Pokemons' sake.

What's wrong with a Fire/Fighter starter?

I think my Blaziken would like to have a word with you funk :D
Nothing, it's a great combination.

If only this didn't make the third time in a row we've had it, after Blaziken, Infernape, and now Porcano or whatever its name is.
Porcoroco! :D

Probably screwed up the spelling of the name, so some might not get the reference.

I'm usually the guy who argues with the nostalgia crowd and I liked every game so far.

But honestly, not a single one of those looks remotely good in my eyes.

I'd like to see a Fire starter that turned out as a Fire/Flying again, or just turn it all around and give us the awesome Fire/Dark combo. (And out of curiosity, do we have a Fire/Poison 'mon yet?)

OT: Most are between Ok and Awesome, some are weird, some are down-right repulsing and some are really, really cute.

So the first impressions of this generation are just like they've been with every generation. And as always i'm looking forward to seeing the new attacks and the new abilities.

eva unit 01

In my opinion that justifies this entire set.

Wow, new gen Pokemon look shite now don't they? *Hugs Pokemon Soulsilver* Ah, back when pokemon looked awesome.
Take those glasses off, all generations had their good and bad designs.
Haven't seen a good design since Silver/Gold. I have Soulsilver and some of the "new" Pokemon I saw there made me cry.

A SUMO POKEMON? THE HELL!

Sorry, you were saying? :p
Dunsparce - yeah, looks like shit. But I haven't seen him once when I played Silver or Gold, just noticed him in Soulsilver. Sunkern? You can tell it's a vegetable. Magneton looks cool. Aipom is like Dunsparce - didn't see him once, never used. Mr Mime is great, and actually shows who he is - a psychic mime. No idea what they were thinking when they created Smeargle. Probably crystal meth thoughts.

..But YORKSHIRE TERRIER POKEMON? Dragonair ripoff green Pokemon?
Just because you've never used Dunsparce and Aipom doesn't mean they weren't around. How about Lickitung or Jynx? And sorry, Magneton and Mr. Mime are both really, really stupid designs.

Empoleon alone is cooler than half of Gen 1 put together.

There's a slim chance I may actually play this game and I sure as hell don't want to find out what the pokemon are before I discover them authentically.

This is the only pokemon game to get a perfect score from that Japanese gaming magazine, whatsitcalled. So I assume the level design, battles, story, or SOMETHING makes up for the fact that I don't like all of the poke sprites. People are jumping the gun if they think just because they don't like the designs the game is somehow beneath them.

Listen, the sprites didn't hurt generation 1 any, and because of the graphic limitations of the game boy I didn't even know what some of them looked like until the anime came out.

My big problem with a lot of them is that they look too human. We've dealt with that before but i just couldn't imagine finding them in the wild and catching them. In a sense they just didn't look like pokemon at all.

Then i heard that this region is far away from the others and is a lot more industrialized so it kind of justifies it.
Pokemon would look a bit different than usual given the sudden separation from the other regions, and they could have evolved to be more human-like because of the denser human population.

Thank you, John. As a fan of this generation I'm getting tired of all the "they're not original/cool anymore" nonsense.

One really has to try hard to mess up all pokemons in a season... and guess what, they managed. Not one single design of those has anything going. It's so random it's laughable. But what does one expect from a franchise where you really have used up creative ideas some time ago.
