I'm about to turn 20 and have lived away from home for university for 2 years now. I'm lucky enoug hthat my mother is awesome and if I ever had any problems she'd bail me out, however I have got my shit together for the most part. Currently living with two of my friends and it's going really well. Hopefully when I finish my degree i'll have a job and never have to live at home again

Not exactly in the basement, more like the top floor.
I moved out when I started college. We sold our downtown apartment, bought a small single-room place for me and my parents took the rest of the money, got a loan and built a house. I lived in my apartment for 4 years, but then my parents had financial trouble I agreed to sell it to help them out. So I am in fact not living with my parents because I'm a deadbeat good-for-nothing, but rather because I sacrificed my independence to help my family...

I'm nearly 23 and I still live with my parents. Hell I've already been to university, got a degree and I had to move BACK IN with my parents as I couldn't find a good enough job to support myself. The job I have barely gives me enough to save up to move out.Redlin5 said:
Wait till you get on that degree course, if the uni offers student housing, go for it, its usually much cheaper than renting yourself. And DO NOT move into a house with your old school buddies. You will end up killing each other. At least if you move into a house where you don't know anyone you won't feel guilty after you kill them all.
Still in my bedroom, 23, but I make trips to Melbourne to work on our indie game we've had in production for over a year now. Hopefully once we start building up a rep and start selling we'll be able to afford the 'studio house' we've dreamed of, long term strech goal... right up there along with kicking Notch in the ball's and getting him to say; "please sir may I have another."

It just isn't feasible at this moment in time for us to have our own place, we simply don't have the funds to do so and until we both have job security, I can't see it happening anytime soon.
I like staying at my parent's place, the rent is cheap and the food is great
Plus, it's where all my stuff is.

I was kicked out at the age of 16, before I'd even taken my exams, and had to start working horrendous retail jobs and moving from rented room to rented room.
If living with your parents gives you the chance to get an education and develop a decent career, good for you.

My parents don't have a cellar...But yeah I have my own place. Second time I've had one. I did need to go back to my parents in between, the economy being what it is.
In the same house at least. I could move out if I wanted to financially cripple myself. Yay for "freedom" and instant noodles every night? I think I'll stay where I am for now.
I'm going to uni this year after I spend last year in TAFE and I might be moving out! Yay moving out at 20!

It's important to live within your means. There's absolutely nothing wrong with living in your parents' house while working on other goals, because you are indeed working. There's no shame in your situation, because you're not a lazy person leeching off them, you're actually working hard, and don't fucking let anyone tell you different.
I live in my actual room at home. It comes down to just not being a feasible idea to move out and live on my own, specially if I only have minimum wage to live on.

I did eventually move back in with her again when I was 20, but that was in the house I partially bought her. Not sure if that counts. It was in the basement though.
Now I live with my girlfriend, and miss being on my own. Oh well.

I don't live in the basement, but I do still live with my parents. I have the entire second floor all to myself, which consists of my bedroom a bathroom & a small loft area(cats room). Both my parents are 70 plus so I stick around to keep up the house & our 40 acres of land, sadly it'll one day just be me....
When I was younger I always figured I'd move out at 18, but here I am at 19 still in high school (well...alternative high school to make up a few credits I slacked on). But most would agree that at 19, there's no shame in living with parents, even for a couple more years, not that I want to though. My hope is to at least room with someone in the next year or two and sharing rent. In between jobs I plan on starting my personal writing career, see if that takes off, and if not, well then I guess it's off to college. Or maybe vice-versa...not 100% on that yet.

I live 4 timezones away from my mom, so, no, living on my own, working to pay for life, y'know, that kinda thing, I've lived away from my parent, for a few years, though when I last lived with my mom it was to help her not die in poverty, and I payed more than half of the household expenses, and more than half the rent, and the entire power bill, for our phone, for our cable, and for the internet out of my pocket... And we both lived in a basement suite, so technically we were both living in someone else's basement lol.
