I'm just going to point out that the drugs were called Jet, and Mentats, and Buffout LONG before bethesda got their hands on the game.Cyketor said:Its pure insanity that games like gears of War 2 in Australia is taken down a notch because parents are idiots. That the real name for drugs on fallout 3 are taken out because the parents dont tell there kids to shut up. I mean I want to get the full content, parents are idoits and where the ones who pay, the real gamers who sit down after a long day and play gears online with mates or play fallout or any game for that matter. And parents complain about how we play games and there bad and stuff then they make us look like heartless monster, then get there kids to play a game where u can rip a guy in half with a chain saw. Dont You All Agree Fellow Gamers!?, this is messed up beyond reprimand !
That's not a valid comparison for me to use until you prove that A: videogames are always the cause of violence and not a symptom, and B: that all the kids counted klled BECAUSE of the videogame. Now what's the proportion of young children playing M/18 rated games (just in case you're about to forget again) that go on to commit violent crimes?
I didn't saycommit crimes over M rated games
commit crimes and have played M rated games
I think a system like the one used for cigarettes and alcohol. No ID, no purchase. And if you think the person buying is going to give it to someone under the age limit, you should be allowed to deny the purchase.Gahars said:Idiot parents who buy games their children aren't old enough for give Fox news ammo, which gives us gamers a bad name.
It needs to end.
Whatever you say, Emperor Palpatine. XD.hem dazon 90 said:my parents bought me 18 games back in the day. they just sat down and talked to me about how it wasnt real and was impossible. i turned out good
there are lots of M rated games that make their way over to Australia.latenightapplepie said:I've never played a 18+ because my stupid-ass country (yes...Australia) won't freakin' let me!
Grrr...
Parents should be getting more information and advice about how/whether or not to censor their children to types of media. It doesn't hurt to have more access to more information. Parent can then properly consider whether it is appropriate for their children or not. After all, parents know their children better than the government does.
If parents and the 40+ people on average weren't so devoid of knowledge of current video games then these kinds of problems wouldn't happen. I'm all for forcing them to play some.
Oh yeah, the classification 'M' in Aust means 13+, but we also have 'MA 15+' (eg Halos 1,2 and 3, Assassin's Creed, GTA 4). So slightly different from your system but ultimately worse because instead of creating a 18+ classification for video games (which we have for films oddly enough) games are either toned down into the 'MA 15+' category (Fallout 3) or banned altogether (latest Silent Hill).Altorin said:there are lots of M rated games that make their way over to Australia.latenightapplepie said:I've never played a 18+ because my stupid-ass country (yes...Australia) won't freakin' let me!

the funny thing is, any M rated game that DOES make the swim is instantly classified as 13+ (I think that's the age, correct politely if I'm wrong)
So for instance, this 8 year old in this example will have to wait 9 years to play Gears of War according out our rating system, but only 5 years in australia
I don't think fighting aliens is comparable to hardcore pornography. Hell, doesn't the came come with a gore-free setting?SirSchmoopy said:Your not playing with guns, you are shooting peoples heads clean off.Bob_F_It said:I dont see whats wrong with that to be honest, i mean enough little girls play with toy slags like barbie but that doesnt mean there going to go and get knocked up and when i was little i would play with toy guns and things as would many yound boys. I dont see the differance between a plastic replica and a compuer generated replica?
If barbie dolls came with a vagina and a video of barbie sucking ken off then yeah I guess comparing gears of wars to toy guns would be acceptable at that point.
yeah, I wanted to say something about correlation vs causality too, but I couldn't word it righthalfeclipse said:*snip*
I'm not saying that games should be banned or heavily restricted, otherwise we'd end up with "you do not talk about game club". The issue lies with parents letting young children play violent games. Just because one or two people go "oh, I turned out fine", doesn't mean that we should just let all children play violent games unquestioned; what happens to one person isn't a perfect template for everyone else.halfeclipse said:A few people seem to be mistaking the meaning of correlation for that of causation . A correlation is a relation ship between X and Y. For example there's a correlation between people dying while in there own beds, however that does not mean that being in their bed is what caused those people to die. Causation is more along the lines for if you do X, Y will happen. For example if someone's heart permanently stops, they will die.
Yes there is a correlation between video games and violence. Not many people will disagree with you on the phrase, "Most people who play violent video games don't kill people, but some do." The problem is the addition of "Therefore we should heavily restrict or ban violent video games." One should never take such heavy action just because of a correlation. I'm willing to bet that if I spin it right, I could do a study that shows that some people who chew gum kill people, and that there chewing gum is what caused them to snap. If I were to then shove that study at you and say "Most people who chew gum don't kill people, but some do. Therefore we need to ban gum." how do you think you would react to me? Heck I could takeit to the really absurd and come up with "Most people who breath oxygen don't kill people, but some do. Therefore we need to burn off the atmosphere"
I'd like to point out that smacking had made me a more violent child, and it's still taking me some time to reshape my temper.hypothetical fact said:It's all just a symptom of parents losing the right to spank their children all day, instead we get naughty stolls, bribes and pointless time outs.
