Try Trigun. Its basically the only anime I've watched and it's pretty good.

Until I actually read the OP I was going to suggest Elfen Lied. I've seen the series twice, and it's great if you like buckets of gore, plus I have an immature crush on Lucy (in the same way that most people probably have a crush on Lara Croft of the DOA girls...). I happen to be a big fan of cute psycho-sadistic girls...

But yeah, there's also Hellsing which is another I really love (and I had a bit of a crush on Seras Victoria too :D). Plus, I've heard great things about Death Note. I haven't seen much anime myself, just Elfen Lied and Hellsing, but Death Note is what I intend to watch next, since it's apparently really good :).
You sir, will get killed by a girlfriend someday. Re-assess your tastes. Right now. Both in both instances you mentioned, you might get your head asploded (if you lie to Lucy, say hello to the stump that is your neck. With Seras you might get caught in the crossfire between the Hellsing Organization and the baby-eating vampire Nazi zombies).
Heh, if we assume that a world where those were real actually existed (which would be a major wish of mine if wishes could come true), then if I lied to Lucy I could expect to see my family get killed in front of me, rather than me dying myself. Still bad, but not quite as much. As for Seras Victoria, I'd be fighting alongside her and Alucard, plus dating a vampire would potentially have benefits (such as the whole 'being sired' thing, which would be pretty cool). So I'd be able to handle myself pretty well against Nazi baby-eating vampire zombies ;)

Still, I didn't say that I go for psycho girls in real life. I just happen to be attracted to the dark side of the human soul... (by Offler that sounded bloody emo...)

Paranoia Agent. It's a weird one, but very entertaining nonetheless. Also, Afro Samurai, if you can dig over-the-top parodies of typical samurai anime.
I've seen both of those...

Okay I just got done watching a show called Blue Sub no.6 and am now looking for a new show to watch I was wondering if anyone can give me suggestions on a good anime show to watch.
my favorites are
1.Serial Experiments Lain
2.Elfen Lied
3.Ergo Proxy
4.Gundam the 08TH MS Team
5.Fooly Cooly(AKA FLCL)
Help us out a little more here. Do you want to bother with a long show with many episodes, or a short one you can get over with quickly? Do you want something light or something heavy? Comedy or serious? Something old or something new? Any particular genre?
Let's try something on the darker side with 1 to 3 seasons. old or new would work as long as it's good.

Most people tend to suggest some dark and edgy stuff where everything ends bad or semi bad (ex: Death Note, Guren Laggan). So I'll go with Tenchi Muyo GPX for laughs and relaxation. In fact watch the entire Tenchi series.
I didn't like Tenchi Muyo GPX...

Obviously I'm gonna recommend Nanoha A's, as per my fanboyism. Also, as Drow said, Lucky Star if you're into that kind of thing (at the very least, Konata is made of win).

Blue Gender is just straight out bad.
From what I've heard of it I'd agree with you, but for my personal amusement could you explain?

Hmmm... Ruroni Kenshin (Samurai X), Berserk (incomplete unfortunately, but still awesome), Blue Gender (haven't seen it but heard lotsa good things), Gantz (preferably manga, I didnt like the animation style).

Nothing else comes to mind at the moment.

EDIT: Guyver! how could I forget Guyver!!!
I've seen Ruroni Kenshin, Berserk, Gantz and Blue Gender but I think I might check out Guyver.

Don't see Gantz and Berserk if you don't want to be disappointed. Berserk ended in the biggest Downer-Cliffhanger EVER. And Gantz had a Gecko Ending.

Why all the love for anime
it seems kinda boring.
damn not another one of these comments... anime is so varied in it's sub genres that it's almost impossible to group all of them together and still do them justice. just because u've seen one anime show that bored u doesn't mean every anime show is boring. it's like condemning coffee because ur only experience with it is black, chances are there is a flavor that floats ur boat ur just not willing to look for it because u've convinced yourself that it's all crap(my favorite is hazelnut)...

I can happily recommend Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai.
I thoroughly enjoyed both season 1 and 2 (season 2 being Kai) and season 3 (Rei) wasn't too bad either.
And then after that there is Umineko no Naku Koro ni :D a recently finished anime :D

I've seen all three of those I thought Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni was very great it was atmospheric and kept me very paranoid through out the entire thing. But Kai really screwed up the series for me it got rid of everything I loved about the first one(I.E. the atmosphere, the bludgeoning murder, and the mystery) I know Kai was supposed to answer my questions but the dramatic change in atmosphere was too overwhelming and the show ended up bringing all of the undertones of friendship to the surface and making it the forefront of the series(unlike the first season that left it as an undertone) and made it feel more like a kids show because of this coupled with the change in the atmosphere but the thing I did like about Kai was it really showed off how well thought out the story was. and Rei just didn't make it up for me though some episodes were pretty damn funny. Umineko was good not great not amazing just good...

baccano
evangelion ( the new movies are ok as well)
Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex 1/2/movies
haibane renmei (if like Serial Experiments Lain)
full metal alchemist
desert punk (really good)
cowboy bebop
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (really good but I don’t know if it’s your style)
I've seen all of those I thought Eva was too pretentious. Ghost in The Shell was good but I liked the original 1995 movie more. Baccano! was underrated. I didn't like the ending to FMA. Haibane Renmei I couldn't get into the same way I did SEL. I really like Desert Punk. Cowboy Bebop was cool. Haruhi was pretty entertaining but the endless 8 cycle in the second season was infuriating...
ok I think I got a better idea of what you enjoy.
so what bout
Hellsing
soul eater (get’s better as you go along)
black lagoon (great stuff)
claymore
Gurren Lagann
Darker than Black
Spice and Wolf ( strange but good)
I've seen all of those too
Hellsing was freaking awesome. I liked the Soul Eater manga more though the show was still very good. Black Lagoon was a great show all of the action scenes were so over the top they were freaking amazing. Claymore was a Meh for me I just couldn't get into it. Gurren Lagann is my #6 favorite show. Darker Than Black was very well done but the story was a bit confusing the first time around. I own the first season of Spice and Wolf on DVD.
