One day they will realize hacking websites doesn't actually accomplish anything. Do they expect them to just say say "oh gee, are website was hacked! call off teh war effort and turn around and go home!" I bet they don't even care.
You could say the same thing about people carrying signs in the streets.

And consider this: maybe the message won't be heard inside Syria. But it gets coverage outside of Syria. It brings the plight of the Syrian people to the attention of the world, including people who may not otherwise have been paying attention. It could help galvanize calls for action from the international community. It could lead to support protests in other parts of the world, news of which will get through to the Syrian people, telling them that they're not alone.

It could lead to something. That's a hell of a lot better than nothing.

The difference here is that those people actually have to show up to whatever they hate, and rally enough people for somebody to care. anon however just doodles something from their parents house, while claiming to be online equivalent of Cathulu in power. I gave way more props to the sign holders.
So because people can't pile into a plane, fly to Syria and take to the streets, they should do nothing?

You do realize that they already know they aren't alone? they have two governments backing them with weapons, troops and support. You know, actual governments with actual power. Forms guns to jet fighters, from food support to clothes. People who are really making a difference instead of just spray painting their logo and message everywhere they go.
Umm... I think you may be confusing Syria with Libya.

The only problem of having a protest group is that it usually leads [http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-14435251] to this [http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11802654] (I'm using UK examples here, but this most likely happens everywhere). Right enough, these normally start by non-protesters and just bored people but still.

OT: Well, while I don't like hackers, I approve of this. While we can't do anything, a little moral support does go a long way.

they probably dont care. anon was showing that the western world supports the people's cause, not the government.

I think that if nothing else anon are boosting morale slightly by you know hacking the regime's website and essentially insulting it.

They weren't trying to call off the war effort, they were encouraging the Syrian people to continue to demand democracy with as little violence as possible while also trying to call for the Syrian military to take the stance they should be taking. To think that hacking a website can stop a war is naive, to think it does nothing is even more naive.

OT: The more I hear about Anonymous the more I like them. Sure, there are splinter groups claiming to be Anonymous and doing some pretty terrible stuff, but the Anonymous I refer to is this Anonymous, the one that supports democracy in the face of tyranny and freedom of information where it would otherwise be hidden. I won't argue about them all being the same Anonymous or what have you, I'm not interested in what you have to say about that.

I'm still very much against a lot of the shit Anonymous does around the internet... But this is awesome. Well played, Anonymous. Well played. You've gained some respect from me for doing something actually noble.

..Just don't go back to being the fuckwits you've been with certain OTHER hacking attempts "in the name of free speech". THIS is a call to arms for free speech. NOT attacking game/electronics companies for your own amusement..

GG, Anons.. For now.
Yeah, because "LulzSec" had nothing to do with the Sony cracks. Seems to me Anonymous has only really gone after companies and entities that are engaged in the practice of being general a**holes. I applaud their work here.
I count LulzSec with the Anonymous.. "Thing". Both stemmed from 4chan, the hell of the internet.es, LulzSec are bastards, but Anonymous ain't much better. They've done some incredibly stupid shit..

Well, hey. Anonymous has been turning into something awesome, lately. They're like superheroes, except they're nerds.

But still, the nerds are sticking it to the man and giving a personal message to a nation to keep up the good fight. (Flashback of Three Dog from Fallout 3.)
