You know, its gotten to the point where they seem more like cyber terrorists rather than revolutionaries. What sony did albeit of questionable ethics was still perfectly legal which is more than can be said for anon. What really gets me tho is that they seem to think that they are trying to do a good thing and "freedom of speech" and all that nonsense that they preach. to which I ask then why the hell are you wasting your efforts on a company thats following the rules.

If you really want to prove yourselves take on China, Egypt?, Libya? you know the places that have had trouble with freedom of speech? Why not bring internet to China? My guess? theyre either hiding behind a guise of "free speech"to propel selfish motivations or they really are not as powerful as they claim to be... probably both

Those are the ones I can think of the top of my head in the last year, there are more. To say they do nothing now is just plain ignorant

These technology and copyright laws are fairly new with grey areas and uncertainty, these new laws are likely to be changed and if it can force a company to give up information then it wouldn't surprise me if it will change

Just because something is lawful doesn't make it good, slavery used to be legal does that make it good?

I wonder if they realise most people have turned on them by now, they look like a bunch of whiny pricks.

I don't mind what Sony did because they were only trying to protect their business, if you ran a local shop and a thief showed a group of people a way to enter your store and take things without your consent you'd definitely get a copy of the CCTV footage in order to capture and hopefully prevent people from stealing off of you, this is no different and the only reason they're going batshit over it is because it's a bigger business and it involves more people.

I doubt Sony will attempt to screw over innocent people if they pursue the people that accessed the website, that would make them look bad and bad publicity = loss of cashflow.

I don't really agree with what Sony did but i really don't like Geohot or what he did and this whole issue si I really don't care. A lot of my childhood was spent playing Sony products and this issue has not affected me at all. I don't care about hacking or Linux or any of that.

Here's where Anonymous just lost me. They love invading people's privacy and revealing passwords and personal information. In their perfect world, wouldn't everybody know everything about everyone else? I thought that was the goal. Now they're mad that Sony tried to do what they do every day? It's like when they argued they wouldn't attack WBC because of freedom of speech, and then they did because they talked bad about them in public.

According to Anonymous, not only was it unacceptable that Sony had "forced" sites like YouTube and PayPal to give up personal information about people who had watched GeoHot's videos or donated money to him, it was also unacceptable that Sony was permitted to request such information in the first place.

I think this is more of a problem with our judicial system that they would allow this than a problem with Sony for requesting it, no?

Glad they are not giving up, although I kind of doubt many people will actually take part in the protest.

As far as getting up in arms about things, gamers talk a big...game (dammit!) but they usually don't actually act on their words. I feel like gamers as a whole are the biggest pushovers in the universe. Everyone knows that they will just bend over and accept whatever the industry wants to do within a few months after it starts. Not buying stuff!?! We could never do that!

I mean seriously, how many times have you seen gamers on the internet become furious about something, only to see months later that whatever it was is now an industry-wide standard that everyone accepts?

And the states with the anti-mask statutes tend to be the states where I would most want to protest if I was seeking to maximize my media exposure. Like New York and California. And 14 is the count of state statutes. I believe that if you start counting local county and city anti-mask ordinances in states that don't have a state-wide statute, it's a lot more.

Amusingly, it doesn't seem like they can do that either. I can't help but notice that when they stopped because they didn't want to affect the users, it very closely coincided with Sony hiring Prolexic to protect the sites.
