This idea is offensive, and the people whose names appear on the patent should be shunned from further participation in the industry.
First off, the only bands that will be able to afford the tech will be the biggest ones -- in other words, the ones least affected by unsanctioned copying. Smaller bands, for whom unsanctioned copying represents a much larger fraction of their total available market, will be left as they were before.
But that's not what makes this offensive.
Disneyland will start installing these everywhere in the park. You won't be able to take a photograph anywhere, most especially near the most iconic attractions (like Sleeping Beauty's Castle). Instead, your camera will display a message reading, "CAPTURE INHIBIT: Please visit our gift shop for official Disney(TM) postcards, or visit one of our authorized photographers." Other theme parks will soon follow, with other major tourist attractions or iconic vistas not long after. And don't think that installations that the local government deems "sensitive" won't get them, either.
Really, [em]really[/em] fscking offensive. I mean, really, you'd actually pay [em]money[/em] for a camera with this defect?
