Erm, I don't know about you guys, but when I think of gamings biggest triumphs, I don't think of Steve Jobs or apple...

I think of Steam, and Gabe Newell... I think of Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo, Sega, all that jazz. NOWHERE on that list would I have ever in a million years thought Apple...

They did nothing. yes, they created a platform that makes it easy to copy/paste flashgames, but that's it.
I seriously take offense to this.

No one who has made a game on the Iphone really poured their heart and soul into it, no one. Jobs didn't even make games, he made a computer, and then oversaw a bunch of other people.

And yes, these guys must be major suckups.

Just like how eevery pop star and their mom tries to compare their looks and dance moves to Mick Jagger despite him being an ugly dude who can't dance. Sing? Yeah he can do that, like how Jobs came up with some innovative product ideas, but crediting him with inspiring the game industry is like saying Jagger danced better than Michael Jackson. Our society just doesn't remember anything before the nineties.

It's pretty much widely know that most "professionals" from any industries have absolutely no idea what's better for the user.(Example? DRM) I mean, "professional" doesn't even mean good. It means getting money for doing something. Heck, if I get 5 bucks from my neighbor for cutting his lawn, I'm a professional lawncutter. Not that it means anything at all.

How can they even name Jobs as a influence in the gaming industry if he doesn't have any connection to it? Ok, he made the graphical interface for PC, but that's hardly a influence, he probably played on arcades when he was in university. His company made the Iphone? Yeah, but Iphone can hardly be considered a "important" gaming station. It's very welcoming to Indie companies, but it's so goddamn overrated. Let's take one as example. Angry birds. It's a good game? Yeah, the controls are good, and its addicting. The art direction is nice, and the game does looks good. But before the Iphone was even launched, there were probably hundreds of flash games with the EXACTLY SAME GAMEPLAY.

Jobs is a great man, but I hardly find he a influence bigger than Miyamoto or Gabe.

I have to see as a lot of people more influential on gaming than Mr. Jobs. Maybe his com-any helped create something to make it more accessible, but that's about it on his end.

He died recently. Most people don't even know who Miyamoto or Newell are or their accomplishments.

This is a really terrible poll. Steve Jobs did little for gaming. He didn't have anything to do with games at all. The iPhone is able to play games and that's about as far as Steve Jobs' influence on gaming goes. Some one like American McGee has had more effect on gaming.

I can see where they're coming from. The smartphone did usher in a whole lot of creativity and innovation that had hitherto been only seen on indie PC game scene. Stuff like Angry Birds certainly made the medium a great deal more accessible and attractive. That said, it seems downright odd to omit John Carmack. It would be interesting to see their exact criteria and reasoning.

Recently yes he probably deserves to be in the top 10 of most influential people in Gaming despite his hatred for it but of all time no he shouldn't be in the top ten. Then as someone said this was done at a convention for handhelds so the bias is understandable.

I know Apple HAS had an influence on gaming, but I think the reason for this poll being the way it is, is less about Apple being a gaming giant and more about the fact that most people already HAVE an Iphone and the games were immediately available.

Also, "Industry Professionals"? You mean the guys who repeatedly predict gaming about as accurately as weather casters?

I think it's safe to say we all agree that Steve Jobs being the number 1 most influential person is...unlikely. Therefore, I choose to look at the rest of the results.

Hm, Newell more influential than Miyamoto? I'd argue in favor of Mario, Zelda, and the entirety of consoles if we're looking long term positive influence. But Steam is definately more influential in recent years, popularizing digital distribution. That said, Wii uses motion controles, and then suddenly the other consoles do too...

If talking about very recently, I'll be inclined to agree.

If talking about the industry in general, I'd be absolutely amazed. Nintendo clearly are the forerunners, no matter whether you're a fan of their product or not.

Yeah, this about sums it up for me. In the past 5 years or so, Apple has definitely brought gaming to a whole new range of devices. But, if we're talking influence on gaming since the dawn of gaming... it has to be Nintendo.
