Bet we'll be seeing this excuse a lot for actual bugs in the future. "Yeh, that's not a bug, it's a pirate trap! Yeh, that's the ticket, pirate trap..." Of course, there is a strong possibility of this backfiring on the dev. It doesn't matter what causes the bugs, if they are reported around the net, most people are just going to think the game sucks and not buy it. Most folks aren't inclined to research too deeply, so they are likely to miss the developer response, and just read about the problems.

Now this is a respect worthy move on the developer's part. Damn pirates will never learn.

Let's hope they continue doing this to keep the industry alive. Even if the pirates get smarter.

Serves them right, not showing a little respect to the guys who put out the best Batman game EVER.

Hilarious. Though wait, what does this mean? DRM for console titles? Because there's no PC version...right?
DRM is just a protocol attempting to prevent the game from being copied, and if you think there's no piracy of Xbox and PS3 games, I have this great timeshare I'd like to sell you... :)
I'm quite sure there isn't any piracy of PS3 games, only 360, PC, Wii, PS2, PSX and Dreamcast titles.

Also, on topic: doesn't the PC version of B:AA come out in about 10 days?
*goes to torrent sites*

Wow, there are several version up now, and a fix for the glide kick thing.

OP is talking out of his ass. Eidos's so-called "DRM" was bypassed very quickly and doesn't bother any of the people who pirated the game.

Yeah, if it hasn't been bypassed by now it will be. Still, this is the most amusing attempt at DRM ever!

Truly genius, hopefully more companies follow this and they can slowly kill off piracy or at least blow a hole in it.

No DRM is perfect; all of them will get bypassed eventually.

However, creative in-game piracy has a lot of advantages over the usual annoying ones:
1) They don't affect legitimate consumers. I'm sure many people hate things like online activation, limited installs, etc.
2) It forces a reaction by the pirates. Think of it as a little bit of revenge. Even when bypassed, at least it forced the pirates to do a bit more work.
3) It also serves as entertainment for legitimate consumers and the developers. This article is proof of that.

Can we stop piracy? No. But, we can at least have a little fun by firing back at them without penalizing people who actually bought the product.

That's a fantastic response from Eidos, but DRM is still DRM, and creative or not, it'll be bypassed by pirates. At least it looks like this won't affect customers. This still will pack ShittyROM, though, so no buy from me.

So Arkham Asylum has been pirated for the PC already?. I thought that it wasn't going to be released until november at least (we're polishing the PC version yadda yadda yadda OMG piracy!).
Steam says mid-September... so how is it already pirated, anyway?

This takes me back to the VERY old PC days when making an illegal copy would result in releasing a virus onto the hard drive.

I can imagine some of the pirates acting like this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbcctWbC8Q0].

Because games are always done well before the actual release date. First they need to finalize the game (which is referred to as "going gold"). Once a game has gone gold, they start mass producing the discs. Then they need to ship said discs out to the stores. There might even be a few other steps in there as well.

Pirated games most likely come from advance copies that are sent out to various sources such as reviewers and what not, which is how the pirates are able to get the game on torrents even before the game has been released.

That is pretty funny, but I think they should've taken it one step further. I think they should have included a virus that does something truly diabolical such as delete the offender's entire HDD, or cause their mother board to overheat and break (yes that can happen).
That would count as destruction of property...
