X-Mas? Not a clue.

I'm celebrating the Winter Solstice. You know. The day that marks the beginning of shortening nights and lengthening days. The on that was originally celebrated by Pagan groups with a knack for astronomy. The one that got hijacked by early Christianity for some purpose.

Christmas is merely a Christian tradition tacked onto the the winter solstice, the longest night of the year, after which the days grow longer and light and warmth returns to the world.
Anyone can celebrate it, regardless of faith. A Christian can praise Jehova for the return of the light, a muslim can praise Allah, an atheist can throw a party because a party is needed when the world is cold, and because the days grow longer.

I stopped celebrating x-mas a while back, however the discovery of steam's holiday sale is more than enough.

I eat turkey on Christmas. I like turkey. Do not take it away from me just because I am an atheist.

Considering that christmas celebrations are derived from the "heathenish" pagans, the notion of it being a Christian holiday is ridiculous. In fact, I'm pretty sure that during certain periods of history the celebration of christmas was banned for that very reason.

No one know when Jesus was born, but it was basically allotted that period of time because it seemed a good place to say it occurred.

Plus, even though it was once picked up by the christians, it is now becoming less about Christ. Ask most people about what they think of Christmas, I bet they say Santa before they say Jesus.

Christmas these days is about commercialism. However, it is also about having a time to be generous, give to, and be with, the ones that you love.

Well said, too many Christians fail to realise that their most important holiday has nothing to do with their religion.

OT: I get presents. That's what Christmas is about, now anyway.

Aside from it being over comercialized, another big reason why atheists celebrate Christmas might be because they grew up with it. Certainly the reason i refer to it as Christmas is because that's what i'm used to and also because people tend to understand faster then if you say "happy winter solstice." Honestly, though aside from the name there never was much "christian" about Christmas.

Yeah, like you're bound to hear plenty of times, Christmas has practically nothing to do with Christianity. The only image which is a christian one is the mass you go to receive at midnight, other than that pure paganism and Coca-cola.

Christianity bastardized and hijacked Christmas. It's not exactly Christian to begin with. I celebrate it because my parents do, their parents too, and also because I can.

Oh, and the fact that it's a national holiday. Don't want to lose that sweet vacation time.

Well said, to many Christians fail to realise that their most important holiday hasn't got anything to do with their religion.

OT: For me, Christmas is about getting presents.

It's a big ball of commercialized joy!

I buy things for no one, and I still get shit! People hatred of me grows every year, and I love every second of it!
What? People still get you presents when you pretty much ignore them? How does that work?
Wait, you have to give people gifts to receive for christmas? I've always made use of the whole job-less, moneyless bum thing, what with me still being a minor. I give nothing, and receive.
I'm always saddled with having to give something to at least 8 family members. If I have no money I usually just sculpt things.

Christmas is not just for Christians.

I'm an Atheist. If I didn't get my friends and folks anything for Christmas they'd be all offended and pissed. So, even if I was going to no celebrate on principle, I'd have to put up with a lot of shit.
