First off Mr. Atkinson: Start brushing your teeth.

Second: While I'm not Australian myself, I read these forums on a regular basis, and as far as I'm concerned, they are definitely mature enough to handle an R-18+ rating so long as you push the legislation and laws to keep it away from the hands of children.

Third: Don't you think we have a right to threaten you and your family if you don't even make an effort to listen for once? You're just acting like a 5 year old here.

Fourth: Your words only show how much bias you have, and as far as I'm concerned, you've practically reached senility. Retire, and throw yourself off a cliff into a bonfire, you worthless old fuck.

"South Australia Attorney General Michael Atkinson says the upcoming public consultation on videogames will likely show "overwhelming" support for an R18+ rating because the only people who care enough to get involved in the debate are gamers."

:O
...

OH. MY. GOD. here I thought he was making fun of our democracy, clearly he actually has no idea how it works!!

people who CARE the MOST should have the MOST INFLUENCE!! as long as everyone is informed, then if people don't care enough to show how they disagree, then maybe they don't really disagree!

this is why voting should NOT be mandatory! why the fuck should people who know nothing about the issue because they are too lazy or uninterested to care have as much influence as someone who DOES CARE!?

words cannot describe...

there is something seriously wrong with you.

and you should sooner be a bikini model than a politician.

It doesn't occur to him that movies are allowed to have that stuff he mentioned, or that some games allowed into Australia aren't that much less violent? Anyway, I live in South Australia, and I enrolled to vote mostly so I could vote against the people who keep him around this year.

You really want an enemy of the state? How about Stephen Conroy, Mr. 'I like the Chinese Internet firewall so I'll push one through the Senate and slow down everyone's internet'.

Atkinson is Attorney General of the dick state, the only state that has enacted its own internet filter. I think him and the Catholic Church, the Communist Party of China, and Pakistan would get along just fine.

Seriously, let's take a look through the mind of Atkinson [Hard to imagine him having that does anything but piss people off then wonder why they're angry.] "Oh I know let's ban R18+ games but let games that are actualy a LOT more violent pass through, then took out half the content and 3/4 of the graphics of those games until the main charachters resemble human pinatas. Then I'll let Australia decide whether they want R18+ games legal again. THEN decide that that vote won't be fair because the only people who care enough to vote are the people it directly." Good job Atkinson, that's a Fu***** A

Nothing Atkinson says or does surprises me anymore. Ever since he claimed that the majority of Australia must support him since he wasn't voted out of his tiny electorate I've realised that the only way we'll get an R18+ rating is by a) loss of his seat b) loss of position on the classification board or c) overwhelming political pressure from the labor party.

Yeah I figure I'll vote against labor at the federal election this year. Not that anything will happen because of that but at least I'll feel marginally better.

This Atkinson fellow should look up Democracy in a dictionary, preferably a printed and not online one because it would be the only format he could understand.

The best I can do at the moment is satirise him to the point that future generations will know of his self-centered crusading for eons to come. Who wants to help me write the next Beowulf? It must be written in Leet English.

Video games don't cause behavior issues.
So when will Austrailia have a chance to vote him out?

suggested that such a result would be pretty much invalid because the average Australian won't care enough to speak out about it.
"Invalid"? It doesn't matter if the average Australian doesn't give a shit; gamers are the ones being affected by Atkinson's retarded campaign, so their say is what should matter.

Furthermore, he claimed the discussion paper is biased because it doesn't clearly present to people what sort of content they're voting for.

"I don't think the discussion paper presents a fair and balanced view of the issue without pictures of the games that would be rated R18+," he said. "I think the majority of the population are unfamiliar with these games and without images, they won't be able to imagine them in their mind's eye. They'll have no idea how violent or sexually depraved they are, and what kind of torture, drug use, and blood spatter they include."
Of course they won't. You've made sure they never get a chance to see games like that.

Hmmm. Doesn't this guy look at popularity polls? I mean, I can't imagine him having good ratings. Can an Australian tell me how popular he is with the public of Australia? In general, I mean, not just in the context of games?
He's not that popular with the Australian People, He is popular with the Family First Party in South Australia, the Ultra Conservative-"Won't somebody PLEASE think of the children" Right Wing Party. Hence why he is the AG of SA.

In fact, in the office where i work, there is a 50 year old mother of 4 thats as Christian as they come (we didn't have the heart to tell her that 3 of our office-bearers were lesbians) and even she believes the man needs to walk away.

Michael (Douche-fuck) Atkinson:
"I also believe that very few people outside the gaming community will have a say in this public consultation, which will mean an overwhelming response in support of R18+,"

Yeah, exactly, very few non-gamers will have a say in this because they're not FREAKING gamers. They wouldn't care!!
I really don't see the logic behind what Michael Atkinson's trying to do, he's either deranged, (that's likely, judging by his FACE,) or he just wants to piss gamers off.

It wouldn't shock me if it's the latter Jezzascmezza. But so long as the Aussie people continue to pile on the pressure (minus hyperbolic death threats) - Mr Atkinson will be deposed he knows it.

He needs to get fired. Atkinson is doing Australia no good by fighting an adult rating. I can understand his argument that it won't be utilized properly, but here in the States, the major box stores that sell M rated games get fined if they sell to underagers.

I think you mean the state election. Federal means people with authority over the entire country.

Oh how I love the hypocrisy and inanity of politicians. So, a majority of the population doesn't care about the issue, and those that do hate the lack of an R18+ rating, thus obviously a majority of people are in favour of banning all games that would carry this rating. Hmm, Mr. Atkinson really needs to take a course on logic.
