Atkinson Dismisses Game Consultation as "Unfair"

Well, if someone really thinks that there should be no R18+ rating, they'd speak up. If there's a public consultation, I'd assume that the people who don't express their opinion really don't care about the subject.

Hmmm. Doesn't this guy look at popularity polls? I mean, I can't imagine him having good ratings. Can an Australian tell me how popular he is with the public of Australia? In general, I mean, not just in the context of games?

I will start acting in a civilized manner when he stops acting in a biased manner. Also, has he never been on the internet? I mean id have to guess one would get a death threat every say...two days?

Atkinson...FUCK YOU.

That aside, I feel sorry for the guy. He has some convoluted sense of "justice" and it's going to get him and/or his family hurt in some way, shape, or form.

His face is unnerving, the thing is, the rest of the world does fine with one, and ironically enough, he is doing more harm than good, because by not having an R18, younger people can buy games that the rest of the world dubs 18 worthy, and not that many titles get banned.

There's a hole in his logic somewhere... ah yes, him saying that only gamers will voice their opinions. Wouldn't that mean that everyone else doesn't care about there being an 18 rating? Surely that'd be proof enough for the guy that he's the only non-gamer that feels strongly on this issue.
Trying to sway democracy to your own beliefs is not representing the people; there's another word for it...

Anyway, here's to the hope that all this can be put right.

Atkinson said that it's unlikely he'll give up his crusade against R18+ videogame ratings, particularly while gamers continue to abuse and threaten him and his family. "I'll consider changing my mind about all this when the gaming community decide to behave in a civil fashion and apologize for the threats to me and my family," he continued."But I don't plan to back down from the fight. I started my mission and I plan to finish it."
Gee, didn't see that one coming. I can almost agree with him on this point. I wonder how many abusive emails he has got. Not that he doesn't deserve it to a certain extent, but its kind of like a parent withholding a childs favourite toy from him, because he throws a tantrum.

We have to admit that some people do not act very mature when it comes to this issue.

Um thats one of the most insaine arguments yet, i mean seriously thats like saying elections are invaled because only people in politics care about it, (ok bad example) or how about a political party electing a new leader is invalled because only the party cares about it.

I really want to set Kratos on this guy...
Nah, we gotta send him in with Dante...Atkinson is just to much of an idiot, that only those twos combined forces can defeat him.
Actually just to be on the safe side, send everyone. Every. Videogame. Character. Ever.

Mario to jump on his head. Kratos to slice him up into tiny pieces, Master Chief to shoot him, Dante to assist Kratos, A Big Daddy to step on what's left, maybe a zombie to gnaw on him... The possibilities are endless!
You're forgeting Link, Ganondorf, and Lara Croft

For everyone in this thread who's not Australian, Atkinson is one State's Attorney General, he's not a federal politician. The problem is for the R18+ rating to be implemented, it needs the approval of the Attorney General of each state, which he is refusing to give, all the others have indicated they are in favour of better classification along the lines of movies.

Also, Australian democracy is not voluntary, everyone who doesn't want to be fined, votes, so if the majority of the people who don't care either way normally in his constituency decide to vote against him in the next election, he loses office. Unfortunately, he has a very big majority in that seat, but he's been irritating enough and his government federally and stateside has been ineffective enough that there is a chance of him being unelected. Also, his party has been reliant on the younger demographic voting for them and I would advise anyone in the South Australian seat of Croydon to vote for someone other than him.

Interestingly, his Wikipedia page has references to the major scandals he's been involved in through the link at the bottom.

Wow, that picture makes him look like an inbred, backwater, redneck in a suit! Honestly, that ignorant jackass needs to lighten up. And perhaps get a dental plan.

Funny thing is, if there's a massive amount of people voting for something... it doesn't matter if they're gamers, they're still people voicing their opinions in an apparently democratic society.

Anyway, as has been mentioned hundreds of times before, if the people buying the games are actually adults then it should not matter what content said games contain, for the consumers will be willing, sentient beings.
