I find this almost funny. He's basically saying that most people either don't care about the issue or against it... yet acts like he's got some kind of massive support, which he doesn't. To some extent it seems more and more like he's admitting to this being a personal crusade rather than anything he's doing on behalf of a legitimate public interest.
That said when Yahtzee put up his E-mail address, I sent him a fairly polite message (and got no response of course). I generally don't troll, flame, or threaten and actually spoke out against people doing such things when the E-mail was put up.
I will say this much, being an "Internet Tough Guy" accomplishes very little except being obnoxious. So many people make impotent threats that nobody takes them seriously so it doesn't really mean anything. What's more if you were serious about going after someone who irritated you, leaving a record on a website or whatever that you threatened them just sets you up for legal retaliation later (if say they accuse you, and can point to the message, that can add weight similar to a witness even if you didn't have any. Not to mention providing the 'motive' requirement in a murder trial if things went that far).
To put things into perspective, I'm a pretty big mess today. However if I really wanted to I could probably find someone, hop a Grayhound (anywhere in the country $70 or less), and beat the crud out of them or kill them (I would dispose of the body by putting it into a tub and pouring in Draino or whatever I can get in the area with a high concentration of industrial caustic which incidently can dissolve bones and such. It would take a while but I could pretty much send the body down a drain. Never tried it needless to say but that's how I was 'taught' to do it purely hypothetically of course). Of course, being relatively sane I can't see anything on the Internet getting me mad enough to want to do something like that.
The point of the rant is that there is no point in making a threat on the internet. It's either impotent, or if you REALLY mean it you don't want to leave evidence behind. Threatening a public person is also likely pointless. If your going to do something, just go out and do it.
I myself have talked about the hypothetical possibility of violence against Mr. Atkinson, but I don't think such would be appropriate until after letigimate attempts at political activism, Mr. Atkinson being a threat largely because there really isn't any. The most he has to worry about is bellyaching, and even without much in the way of support, it doesn't matter if nobody is seriously trying to oppose him. Besides, part of the point of political activism is that if you do it right you get public sympathy, so if the guy doesn't change or step down, if your winning and something happens to him, it becomes less of a big deal. What's more in a case with a lot of supporters the police become less likely to want to come running out and throw a match on a powder keg. I'm looking back at the 60s, Union activity, and similar things.
The point being that instead of threatening the guy in a letter, instead write a letter to some of the more fan friendly game companies with lots of publically known resources (like Valve which makes a fortune off Steam) and try and convince them to get the ball rolling with protests or whatever. Set something up where you get a few thousand gamers with signs picketing his office or whatever. If people get arrested use it to make statements about the subject. In this case your not even dealing with a well organized opposition all through the goverment it seems, but ONE dude. I don't think things would ever need to go beyond that level if something got organized, and if they did, again it's not like your talking about civil war but ONE guy in a single office. Or at least that is how it's presented, especially when the guy claims he isn't expecting much public support (quite the opposite in fact) when things go into a more public hearing.
