Soooo.... basically they have one of these at every entrance now

On a side note, this seems very high-tech and expensive. I think it's more for show to demonstrate the tech than actual security.

That's not to say it won't work, it just seems a bit too much.

The fashionable robber always brings an umbrella anyway.

Alternatively: Brick, meet window. Window, meet brick.

Poor window never quite recovered from the shock.
And then leave your own DNA behind when the plate glass gives you a laceration.

Either case, I have to wonder when the sprayers malfunction, and you know they will, if the paying customers that can suddenly be the coolest people in a dance club get a decent compensation.
Besides being the coolest people in a dance club. Unfunfunfunfunfunfunf.

So... You're being robbed by someone with a weapon. Desperate enough to attack a place like McDonald's... Then you spray him with a liquid...
Is it the same people who made that vaginal cock-trap to avoid rape?

Ahahah seriously why would anyone bother to rob a McDonalds restaurant
Down in Aus it's the thing to do on a Friday night. Or Sunday through Saturday. Whatever. If you're bored, rob a Maccas. Probably with an axe if you want to keep up the pattern.
Well ive been living in Sydney for about 3 years now Ive seen the night weekend trend that teens have and hangout at the parking lots of the drive-tru`s but really nothing to ever indicate robbery trend :O

Most of all , , , ,where the hell would you eat at 2 am if not for macas? Arab duner cebab shops arent that popular around NSW

That's all true but the fact is that most criminals ARE idiots though, as if they had much in brains they'd choose a career that didn't involve risking imprisonment. Furthermore most of the more intelligent criminals will probably be aiming higher than robbing a McDonalds of all places.
Haha, I know. I just wonder about stuff like this. I was having more fun than anything else. I know most are idiots or do something in the heat of the moment. The secret to being a good criminal is premeditating everything and always having a plan. But people who typically do these two things also have no reason to be criminals.
Don't forget having the ability to adapt to the situation.
To steal a premise from a Barenaked Ladies song - what would you do if you were robbing a McDonald's full of nuns?

Now everyone knows about it. I would like to point out the difference between an idiot and a reasonably intelligent criminal. Idiots run in, demand money and run away, often times not even wearing a mask or anything to cover their face. A seasoned criminal will wear something to obscure his face. A dumbass robs McDonalds, walks two blocks and grabs a beer. An intelligent person robs McDonalds in throw away clothes, leaves to secluded area, throws clothes away and puts on a pair he/she had stored in the area secretly. An idiot doesn't bother covering his hands or any parts of the body that could possibly identify them (tattoos, scars, etc.). Someone with 2+ brain cells to rub together wears gloves and covers their whole body in an obscuring layer of clothes. So, if someone had 2 minutes to plan this, this system would be as useless as the police as the already useless camera system I'm sure they have in place. You know, the one that can't even catch the guys who don't even bother wearing masks.
A smart person doesn't rob MacDonald's. Most people don't pay with cash....at least in the U.S. So not really much cash on hand to take. But then again a smart would get a job or start a business instead of robbing fast food chains to start with.
A smart person doesn't pick the first comment a guy writes without looking for follow-ups. :p

In all seriousness though, I said that exact same thing like 4 comments down. I'm just having fun with you though, no flame wars please. :)
all good.

With the money it costs to make that thing, why don't they just hire a Ronald McDonald impersonator to patrol the restaurant with a golf club? Fun for kids, scary as shit for would be robbers.
Because people killing eachother is both less effective at preventing robbery, violence and less effective at allowing the perpetrators to be caught.

It was a joke... Perhaps not entirely that funny, but pretty blatantly obvious.

Challenge Accepted...

On a side note- I don't eat Mcdonalds

Also, most robbers who are half-way decent know that you cover yourself from head to toe due to cameras and such...

I'm amazed that this thread has reached two pages without someone commenting that fast food workers have been known to "tag the food with DNA" in disturbing ways that led to lawsuits.
How do you tag something that's already synthetics and trans-fat? :D If they did, the zinc and protein values would actually be more than 0!

we've had that stuff here for ages, atleast in like high profile places. you can put it all over objects like TVs and stuff and if they get knicked its both on the object and the thief.

I still think it is best to have a tar and feathering system to get them.
Maybe mix the DNA system with that?
I mean, people would notice someone covered with tar and feathers, and it would likely weigh them down to some extent.
Splash them with a little DNA spray? Sure, it's good, but not exactly visible. At least they shouldn't notice that.

Counter: Wear a raincoat and something to protect the eyes, face and hands.
Sure. But good luck blending in while bundled up like that, and I sure hope you don't get the stuff on your hands while you're ditching the protective gear. Or while you're touching and spending the money.

Oh, and if you've got enough money and brains to foil this thing, what the hell are you doing robbing a McDonalds? Keep in mind that they're safeguarding, like, a thousand dollars at the most... hardly Fort Knox here.

You can rob a bank by rolling up into the lobby in a tank, too, but overkill causes its own problems. :p
Wear surgeon gloves. Main thing with these plastic beauties is that their, for the most part, very easy to dispose. They are also very protective from harmful liquids that the body commonly contains. These would allow you to, in essence, take off your clothes without them getting on you. I imagine that wearing a raincoat suit, then a shirt, pants, then a jacket and a extra pair of pants to soak up the DNA that gets on your back, while wearing a rain coat mask [its basically a bag made out of the material that raincoats are made out of] and then a hoodie to cover it all, this would allow you to potentially get away with the theft.

I don't know what to say, what if it gives the dudes cancer or something later on.

I don't see how any normal person could sue for this.

You glow for 2 weeks. This is not a problem. This is not emotionally-traumatizing. Unless you are wrongfully imprisoned (which would be pretty much impossible unless you ALSO happened to be wearing a mask inside the McDonalds you were eating at), there's nothing wrong with this at all, that I can see.

Uh... this seems like something a Bank would do.
How much money does a McDonalds even have in all their registers in 1 day?
A few thousand?

I dunno this seems kinda extreme.

Well since thieves actually know about this now I'm sure there will be people exiting from the backdoor or through the Drive In window.

A lesson in journalism: if you are going to cite relatively obscure sites as sources, please use the site that was used as a source for the other article you read, i.e News.com.au, as visible at the end of the article.

OT: This is definately a new idea, certainly one I wouldn't have thought up. In fact it's rather creepy if you think about it too hard. I can see zombie apocalypse stories springing out of this one. Oh god... it's not just DNA, it's the T-Virus!
Not really we've had SmartWater in the UK for several years now. It consists of synthetic DNA which can be run through normal profiling services.
