Australia overall actually doesn't have much censorship at all. You'll see the f bomb, the c bomb and quite often full frontal nudity on free to air television at prime time viewing slots. Their ideas on religion, cursing and sex are all incredibly laid back and it's rare to find an Australian who really takes offense to any of that.Madara XIII said:but the fact that their Censorship is so steep just makes the idea unbearable.
You win the bet by pulling a statistic out of the air, offering no references or proof and asserting facts? Lol. No.SillyBear said:5-15% of the content on some internet porn sites depict minors you nong. The police work with that. When I say child porn I'm not talking obscene paedophilia, I'm talking about 13-15 year old girls who most people don't even know are minors. If you bothered to do research on the issue, you'd know the Australian government are especially concerned with it. They're also concerned with people over the age of 18 who are deliberately made to look like minors. As I said earlier, my Father has made hundreds of arrests over it. And yes, you can quite easily stumble upon this.Snowy Rainbow said:No. Just no.SillyBear said:Yes, yes you can. My Father is a UK Police Officer who was worked in child crimes for over 25 years and over sees internet operations every few weeks. I know for a fact you can and many do. Most of it is unknowingly child porn.Snowy Rainbow said:You cannot accidentally stumble upon a site with child pornography.SillyBear said:Comparing Australia to China? Please. They are censoring a few child pornography sites to prevent people from stumbling upon them. They aren't going to start censoring whatever the fuck they want, and they aren't going to turn into crazy dictators. All of you are using the slippery slope argument.
Anyway, the rest of your post was just nasty and snidey so I'll just leave that out.
*faceplam*
People who make child pornography don't go around making it easy to "stumble upon". One doesn't just Google "best ski resorts" and find a kiddy porn ring. In fact, the makers have many legal reasons (being devoid of empathy, the creatures they are) to make it very, very, very hard to find. You think these people make their crap easy to find? That they just set up a forum and start trading? Lol. You better tell all those computer technicians working with the police they aren't needed -- any Joe Blow can just use Google to find it. XD
Go ahead. Google something. I bet you $5000 you will not "stumble upon" anything akin to that. Try it.
I'll take your 5 grand now then?
You see the word child pornography and you automatically think I'm talking about under 10. I'm not. The huge majority of child porn is done with post-pubescent girls.
Says who? Unless there's transparency in which organizations are creating the list, what the reasons are for adding them, and the methodology taken in determining what to add, and unless an appeals process is added, who knows what websites will slip in unannounced?Blitzwing said:Oh enough with the damn slippery slop arguments all this will do is block site that you shouldn?t even be looking that to begin with.

After a while I hope we can get this in the U.S. too so that we can phase out internet pornography
That doesn't even make sense. The Labor Party isn't officially associated with any international left-wing group or movement. Labor are centre-left, not liberal left wing softies. They're on the left on many social issues, but the ALP has a massive catholic right-of-left wing that has supported it since the days of anti-conscription campaigns.2012 Wont Happen said:The more Australia does this sort of thing, the more I am ashamed that Australian Labor is connected to Socialism by its international affiliations.

I have alllot of AU friends... and they swear so much they would make an american biker blush.SenseOfTumour said:Australia, the same country that's trying to ban swearing in public - have they MET an Australian? I'd offer my opinions on that, but it'd just get blocked...
It wont work to stop child porn, so why is this being pushed so hard? oh wait....Shadow Innovation Minister Sophie Mirabella told the audience that the Coalition wouldn't support the policy because it wouldn't work ? particularly as it was unable to block peer-to-peer traffic.
What does Tony consider filth? And why is his concept of filth being forced upon every Australian that just may enjoy that "filth" such as milf or gilf porn, lesbian or gay porn, S&M porn, male and female adults missionary style boring porn. or maybe the filth he is thinking about is horror movies? Sorry but no man or government should be allowed to filter anything just because they think its filth. one man/womans filth is not all man/womans filth.Tony Abbott out at Rooty Hill, of course, said that he would do whatever he could to stop people looking at filth," she said.
Thats half of youtube. thats escapist magazine because it has articles pertaining to games that are RC, after the filter is up and some government jerkoff sees an article here thats about an RC game.... guess what just got added to the filter!Under the plan, internet providers like Telstra and Optus would be forced to block access to web pages containing RC material.
RC stands for "refused classification".
Dude no need to inform me about the processing of criminals. I'm well aware of their rights being taken away. It's necessary and I accept that.SillyBear said:Australia overall actually doesn't have much censorship at all. The US is the exact opposite.
You are right, there is censorship in Australia - but there is just as much censorship in the USA. It's just a different kind of censorship. Australia's video game censorship is down to the fact they don't have an 18+ rating, which will change very soon. It's not really about "Oh my God we are offended by this horrible violence in Mortal Kombat! Let's ban it!" it's simply about not having a high enough rating system to classify it. As I said, that looks very likely to change.
So yeah, Australia isn't really the censorship capital of the world like so many Americans on this website think it is. I've been to both Australia and the US and trust me, the US has a much, much, much stricter culture. "God damn" gets censored on television in the USA. And in the South especially, "Christian values" censor everything from text books to art.
None of that happens in Australia. Personally, I'd prefer to live in a censorship culture like Australia than the US. This internet legislation is so incredibly overblown it's hilarious. No one will even notice the difference, all that will change is a few dodgy websites will be inaccessible.
It seems really trendy on this website to use slippery slope fallacy and to stand up for "FREEEDOM!". I've even heard some amazing quotes such as "no one has the right to take someone else's freedom away" (LOL) and "Once you start censoring criminal websites, you impact all of us". Nonsense.
News flash guys, many people have the right to take your freedom away. If you are a criminal you don't have the freedom to access your criminal websites and Australia is actually doing something about it. Sure we can all question just how effective this will be, sure we can all say "The paedophiles will just change websites and make it even harder to find them" well, so what? Who cares? If there is a website that traffics thousands of data of criminal activity, it should be fucking censored and blacklisted. I don't care if the criminals who use the website have to go somewhere else. If there was a park in my city where hundreds of thugs met up and caused havoc, and safety restrictions and precautions were install in the park - I would be happy. I wouldn't say like a smug wanker "Ehhh well the thugs will just go to another park... so who cares".
Paedophiles quite often only have one safe haven where they can spread their illegal images: It's the internet. Any action that makes it harder for them to share and upload those images should be supported by all of us. Real people are being hurt by these people. Paedophiles have the same rights as we do. They don't have the right to do illegal things.
