I hope this doesn't work, because it could effect or is affect world wide Net access.

well I sent a complaint to my ISP (Optus), not much else I can do atm.
I can give you the tools to resist. [http://www.torproject.org/]

You can write your complaints and hope that they overturn this censorship thing, but it is both foolish and naive to think they will. Use Tor in case of massive ISP and governmental bullshit. But like all tools, be careful using it lest you find yourself in hot water.

This is just Labor sucking up to try and weasel their way into the religious right conservatard vote.

None of it will work, there are no restrictions on what ACMA are allowed to block, the list of sites which will be blocked won't ever be disclosed, and for all intents and purposes, it is just a fuckoff waste of money that won't actually do anything.

As far as pedos are concerned, if they are able to find underground websites, they'll obviously just use proxy tunnels because of fucking course they'll know how to do that. If the government starts to block proxy tunnels, they'll use VPN's. This is just a really fucking stupid policy and a grab for the votes of stuffy arseholes who don't even know how the internet works.

And also, Conroy is a prick.

I seem to remember there's another nation which already does this. Wasn't is communist China?

This thing will catch websites that aren't child porn, and once the system is in place, what's there to stop other websites from being added? Maybe it'll only be one at a time, but each one will make the internet in Australia more and more government-regulated.

Enjoy your police state Australia, I hope the beaches make up for it.

When this made the news a few days ago I was pissed off. I just do not understand why the companys and government think it will work. So many ways around it.

So they will have a system like the Internet Watch Foundation in the UK. I will let people read up on the problems that system causes with even doing innocent surfing....

Boy I bet it's lonely in your little world.
What gave you that impression?

I just wouldn't say anything bad about any of the governments. They have the military and all. So, as a result, I support anything they go for.

And we might as well get rid of piracy and pornography while we're at it. :p
A lot of angry men would like a word with you.

And according to the U.N., internet usage is a basic human right.

Seems like there's only one way to settle this....

Mexican drug cartels have soldiers, should we just listen to them because we have a couple guns then?

Also, pornography is legal, what someone does with their own body is none of your business.

Edit: I know of course that the government has nothing to do with this filter.
Of course they should. They're powerful than we are. That's the way of things.
The people should never fear their goverment, the government should fear the people.

I believe you are just actively trying to incite a negative response to your strawman actions. If not, I fear that there are more like you and that makes me fear for humanity.

If the government had the ability to stop criminals from communicating with each other, organized crime would be a thing of the past. And any other crime would be relatively manageable. So yeah, I don't see what is wrong with hindering organized crime.
Wow, you really seem to trust the government.
I'd say a little to much....

*reads Little Brother again*
Personal gripe: I couldn't even get through the first couple chapters of that book. The writing was just tortured. It's got a great concept, but it's trying too hard. Does it change later on, or pretty much stay the same way the whole way through?

OT: Eh, this could be good, could be bad. Keep an eye on it and watch Anon flip out if things go south.

If there isn't any limitation to what gets defined beyond "government approved" then we might as well switch the Internet off because private interests and spamvertisements would literally be all that's left at the end.
Business has its hands in every major/first world government in the world. So unless you love watching nothing but advertisements and PSAs, expect the Internet to become nothing more than a money sink for the majority of its users.
Hell, I'd start my own network if that happened...
