Not really that psyched for it. Then again, very few movies have peaked my intrest these past couple of months so I wouldn't be surprised if I saw it and ended up liking.
IGN.com gave it 4 and a half Stars out of 5 and called it one of the greatest films he had ever seen, that combined with the fact that the man responsible for it is also responsible for Titanic and Terminator 2 means it could easily be worth checking out.
Don't get me wrong, I'll proably see it one of these days when there's nothing better playing and I'm quite aware of the directors record. The story of the film never really interested me.

Whatever trace of credibility Cameron had it was terminated; pardon the pun, the moment he finished editing Titanic.
But I suppose I'll see Smurfahontas sooner or later. One must keep an open mind, see.

I'm going to see it this Saturday, with my brother and uncle. It looks good, so it should be good...
It had better be good, 'cos I'm sick of things being overhyped...

Even though I don't think it will be that good, I'm still interested in it based on the concept

I thought the premise was incredibly cliche, but it's been touted as one of the greatest films in recent years. As a film buff I kinda have to go see it, simply so I can say I did.

A resounding meh from me. From what i've gathered it is a rather unoriginal idea IMO and visuals don't really get me psyched. That's just me though

I have seen it, and am tapping up a review at the minute. Needless to say, it isn't quite what a lot of you are expecting, judging by a few responses on this thread.

In short, yes, it is up there with Aliens.

I don't want to sound too "South Park", but to me, it's way too over-hyped. It seems corny and cliche, and without even seeing the movie, I noticed plot-holes (it's the future where they can transport a man into another living being. They have huge weight-lifting machines and are fighting aliens on a different planet... but they can't fix a crippled guys legs.) Now as i've stated before, i've yet to see the movie, so I'm sure there is some "future" explanation, like Polio-AIDS. James Cameron is an amazing director with billions of dollars worth of notches under his belt, so I doubt this movie will suck, but it's just reusing the same sci-fi elements is all.
That's a bizzare thing to poke holes in. Giant lifting machines are a very different science from repairing spinal injuries.

And Cameron films have never been vastly about the plot. Aliens and Terminator are fairly simple maternal-instinct driven action films. Titanic is a simple love story.

His execution is bloody fantastic.

This film could have terrible plot and be voiced by chipmunks and I would still declare it a must see. This man spent 12 years working on the visual effects for this film. That's longer than most people on this website have been able to write. To say the technology is groundbreaking would bge an understatement, literally everything was invented from scratch for this film.

That, and surely a 12 year development, from the guy who did Titanic, and a film that cost at least a quarter of a billion dollars is reason enough to see it? Just to see what he's created? I can understand someone not thinking they'll enjoy it, I cannot understand anyone simply not caring about this film.

He made the highest grossing film ever. (Sixth if adjusted for inflation)
It tied for most acadamy award nominations (14)
It ties for most wins (11)

And this LOST him credibility? Seriously, what the hell are you on about?

I think the Hype has been too much, the budget was too high and that it will never reach the heights it should because of it.

I'm taking the Yahtzee approach to this. Its shit until proven good

^ pretty much said it. though graphically it looks extremely impressive, the story seems abit to familiar (like a cowboys and indians tale) albeit in a slightly futuristic setting

Ah I see it now. Come to think of it, it's not all that original really. I don't know, it may be worth seeing for the effects?
I'm going solely for the fact that it's James Cameron.

Guys, what's all this about unoriginality? Who cares?

Aliens may not have been an original plot but it was still a great movie.

Didnt see it, wont go anyway, but the trailers seem to scream "the cute, innocent, blue, primitive aliens" will open a can of Ewoks on the evil emp--military corporation and obviously win.
But hey, the evil corp could win. Would like to see that.
Saying that Aliens didn't have a happy ending (Most died), same with T2 (Arnie torching himself), and same can be said for Titanic. I'm expecting a "Not the best outcome, but could be more grim" ending.
Bittersweet, then.
