My arguments with regards to Dave Grohl are completely flimsy I'll admit, like I said earlier, I don't why I dislike him, I just dislike the guy. Its an irrational dislike I guess.

How its ostensible promise of leading us into a new and better world is slightly undercut when you consider the horrors humanity has had to endure ever since the advent of the modern age? Its undervaluing of the more spiritual, intangible qualities inherent in human existence?

Just throwing that out there, feel free to agree or disagree. Honestly, System aren't even that good in my opinion, so you not listening to them certainly isn't much of a loss as far as I'm concerned. That being said, if there's one thing I'm not a fan of, it's rash decisions!

I actually think Viva la Vida was their best album, though it only barely beats out A Rush of Blood to the Head. I thought the old formula was good, until X&Y - then it became clear they needed to do something different. But yeah, I can see how the sudden switch could throw some people.

I have to admit, I did not listen to all of the tracks on the more recent albums, such was my distaste for the released singles, but really I liked Coldplay when they were like a yellow blur mixed with a bit of whimsy - songs like Everything's Not Lost, Spies, Shiver and many others (from their first albums), songs with a distinctively classic feel about them. They weren't trying to do anything new, just trying to revolutionize and improve the standard. Loved it!

I loved Parachutes too, because it had so much soul. It was kind of adorable, with those relaxing little piano melodies and gentle guitar riffs. Yellow in particular is one of the happiest songs I've ever heard. But still... I don't think they could have stayed there forever. (Although they still haven't quite abandoned it - Reign of Love [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMHkOelzu9s] is one of the cutest songs I've ever heard).

I sit in that rare group who actually like Linkin Park's newer albums. Almost more than I like the old ones. They grew up, tried new sounds and A Thousand Suns is one of my favourite albums that I own.

OT: Paramore. I liked their original album. I really liked it. Then we went on to Riot! and whatever the new one is called, and their style changed so much from their first album that I just lost all interest.

I don't understand it either, a person I know used to really like Foo Fighters (which I still do) until he found out Dave Grohl was Christian and apparantely added christian stuff to his songs and now he doesn't really listen to them anymore.

Huh. Before reading this thread it never occurred to me that Serj Tankian was christian. It makes total sense though. Not so much because of the song Science though, I don't think the song is as simple as just saying "science is bad because I'm christian", that's silly. I don't think the song was literally saying science is completely awful and faith is the best thing ever, because that's simply not true. Serj Tankian isn't a stupid guy, I'm sure he knows that. But a lot of spiritual themes, particularly religious themes do come up in his music. Like he almost word for word quotes the last words of Jesus in the Bible in Chop Suey! But I still think it's all great music and has a good message behind most of it.

I think the closest thing I can think of that relates to the OP is probably Still Remains. They were never the most amazing band in the world but they were one of the first bands I really got in to, and the first I saw live. I'm pretty sure they were also christian judging from some of their lyrical themes too. Basically what happened was their debut album was a pretty cool Metalcore/Melodeath hybrid, and their second album was pathetic wet load of emo crap. To illustrate my point:

The band broke up after their second album but have recently reformed and are working on new music which they say will be more like their first album, maybe even heavier. I'm very interested to see what they will come up with. But I never really stopped liking them, I was just disappointed at what they had become. It was like they had totally sold out and became a shallow watered down husk of what they were before. It seemed like when they broke up it was the final nail in the coffin. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that part of the reason they broke up was because they had similar feelings about their second album as I did. But it never spoiled my enjoyment of their first album.

Yeah I don't think anyone in SOAD follows a particular religion, I think they more take the agnostic stance on things.
