not wanting to start a flame war or anything, but we've been screwing ourselves around long before the "modern age" and science is just the new scapegoat as far as I'm concerned, hell, we still fight over Jerusalem to some extent after 2000 years of FAITH, all because some guy we'd laugh out of the country into the nearest mental hospital shit himself and died on a hill twenty feet away.SonicKoala said:How would you explain their line "Why cry when angels deserve to die?" in "Chop Suey"? Taking lines out of context aside, perhaps "Science" is just a commentary on the short-comings of science? How its ostensible promise of leading us into a new and better world is slightly undercut when you consider the horrors humanity has had to endure ever since the advent of the modern age? Its undervaluing of the more spiritual, intangible qualities inherent in human existence?Worgen said:I used to like system of the down until I heard the song science, well heard the song and actually listened to the lyrics, one of the lines is "science fails to recognize the single most potent element of human existence, letting the reigns go to the unfolding is faith" to me that sounds like they are saying, "science sucks, yay faith" and faith is one of the more retarded things that people have, so fuck em.
Just throwing that out there, feel free to agree or disagree. Honestly, System aren't even that good in my opinion, so you not listening to them certainly isn't much of a loss as far as I'm concerned. That being said, if there's one thing I'm not a fan of, it's rash decisions!
Well, thanks. It's nice to feel appreciated. Also fixed.urprobablyright said:I love it when people give well answers like that! I thought the old formula was good, until X&Y - then it became clear they needed to do something different. But yeah, I can see how the sudden switch could throw some people.urprobablyright said:Coldplay, until they started wearing downright crap uniforms and started singing shallow 'rock anthems'.
What the hell was wrong with the clocks/yellow formula? Brit pop with some class and execution? Damn you, Coldplay.
I have to admit, I did not listen to all of the tracks on the more recent albums, such was my distaste for the released singles, but really I liked Coldplay when they were like a yellow blur mixed with a bit of whimsy - songs like Everything's Not Lost, Spies, Shiver and many others (from their first albums), songs with a distinctively classic feel about them. They weren't trying to do anything new, just trying to revolutionize and improve the standard. Loved it!
And not everyone who doesn't go bleeding heart over illegal immigrants, or didn't automatically assume the worst and flip their shit over Arizona's law, is racist.DJDarque said:I liked Serj Tankian's solo stuff until I found out he was on Sound Strike. Christian? I don't know about that, they've toured with Slayer and some of the interviews with Shavo and Daron say otherwise. Serj is definitely a very spiritual person, but christian? I doubt it.DigitalSushi said:Queens of the Stone age until I found out Dave Grohl has is dirty puppetry magic hovering over them... I still like them but it dampened my mood towards them for sure.
Hate to break it to you but System of a Down have never hidden their hardcore Christian roots.Worgen said:I used to like system of the down until I heard the song science, well heard the song and actually listened to the lyrics, one of the lines is "science fails to recognize the single most potent element of human existence, letting the reigns go to the unfolding is faith" to me that sounds like they are saying, "science sucks, yay faith" and faith is one of the more retarded things that people have, so fuck em.
Evanescence are also big on Jesus, just to warn you in case you have some CD's floating about.
What? Serj co-founded the Axis of Justice with Tom Morrello. A anti-racist, anti-facist, non-prophet organisation. Unless you're mistaking that for Serjical Strike, his record label.DJDarque said:I liked Serj Tankian's solo stuff until I found out he was on Sound Strike. Fuck you, Serj. I don't understand it either, a person I know used to really like Foo Fighters (which I still do) until he found out Dave Grohl was Christian and apparantely added christian stuff to his songs and now he doesn't really listen to them anymore.Papadam said:Slyers vocalist is a christian too.Death_Korps_Kommissar said:Christian? I dont understand how an artists faith can make someone hate their music.
Jesus Lou, what have you done to yourself? I love your song Perfect Day, but what the hell was this!?JochemDude said:Metallica, I could endure St. Anger, but now...

Just when you think they're lyrics couldn't be worse.
Yes which I find hilarious. I don't really, as long as they aren't preachy about it.Papadam said:Slyers vocalist is a christian too.Death_Korps_Kommissar said:Christian? Yeah I don't think anyone in SOAD follows a particular religion, I think they more take the agnostic stance on things.Death_Korps_Kommissar said:Christian?
