. I don't feel like I'm doing anything skilful, I'm always at the top of the scoreboard with a high K/D, but I do nothing to get there other than predict where the enemy is and position myself accordingly, handing out supplies when I can and disarming bombs or otherwise providing covering fire for other people disarming bombs.
That seems to be the legit way to get there. So let's see; you kill enemies, assist teammates, and do objectives. What else are you looking for there?
I don't know, the whole experience feels really hollow. Everyone dies within a few rounds so killing isn't hard, the guns are easy to aim and shoot, and on consoles they practically aim for you with the assist on. Like I've said, it feels really lackluster. I suspect it is the choice of map because I've actually enjoyed previous Battlefield games, I still play BC2 even. The current map in the Beta feels like one of those CS:S deathmatch servers where you pick guns, spawn, kill a few, die, repeat. It isn't enjoyable with Battlefield's gameplay, and it feels like a significant step down when compared to previous Battlefield games. I've always enjoyed how in previous Battlefield's it's (usually) a struggle, the map in the Beta is a mindless spray and prey with no soul. I usually forget there is even an objective unless the bomb is actually planted.

These are my thoughts on the Beta, it's made me reconsider buying BF3, but I have no idea how the end product will be. I'll be disappointed if all the maps are like this on release.
Ok, I see what you mean. I agree 100%. I also find the map to be too big, but meaningless. Wow, it's huge. However, tactically, it makes no sense. Just a way to get picked off by campers. I posted before something similar, where you kill a couple, die, repeat all in ten seconds. Or spawn, die quickly, repeat. It's annoying considering the only people who are unaffected are campers (which having prone now is going to be so prevalent). In BC2, I could easily stay alive for 10 min+. I don't see that happening in BF3.

This isn't a beta.
And the beta itself doesn't even work.
Contradiction?

And yes it is a beta. There's no ambiguity about this. It's been repeatedly called a beta. The software is entitled 'beta'. There are troubleshooting forums. You don't need to pay to be in it. Not everyone who will play the actual release is on the beta. Not all the features are enabled. The game mostly works, but not for everyone. You can even submit bug reports. This is a beta. I'm not going to argue any more about this. You. Are. Wrong.

I don't have time or energy for this absurdity. Ignored.

So far I played on the ps3 and 360 versions of the game. (PC version soon...)

Verdict:

Ps3 Version is much smoother then the 360 version. Pc will probably top both.

Though, all versions are great imo.

For some reason the server browser quits out before I can join a game, so I haven't played it yet. Not a positive first impression.

Why can't you people add links important to your threads...

Love the interface... yes that is sarcasm, and the game looks like CoD more then ever before.
Agreed. I put down a pre-order, and was oh so excited for the Beta (Battlefield is one of my all-time favorite games series), and I was expecting it to be God's gift to any who play shooters.

Instead, I felt it played too much like the latest Medal of Honor (Which I didn't like), and felt too much like another CoD game. Which is a shame, because Bad Company 2 was superior in... Well, in every single way.

I'm trying to play it... but every time I try to log into the multiplayer on my 360 it keeps saying "Connection to EA Online was lost"

Things I like: No Regenerating Health. It is a nice change
Actually, health does regen. There's like a ten second delay, which is a crucial time-period because you tend to die fast. Having a med pack negates the delay.
Oh. I didn't notice that because I was either dead or already at full because of the medkits. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

It's pretty awesome, they put real effort into making the "EA servers not available" screen nice and shiny.
This, tenfold.

I managed to get a few games in earlier and it was pretty damn good. It serves as a promotional tool more than anything though and it's supposedly riddled with bugs. They haven't left themselves much time and their servers are laughably horrific.

Good workmanship ruined by an awful execution.

It may be a Beta, but it's a month before release and that can't be ignored.

From what little I have played it's been a lot of fun. Looking forward to getting the full product next month.

Thanks for the heads up, I was looking at their support forums which of course are devoid of any useful information.

(I don't liek!11)
Few points:

It seems the unlock system is really lopsided (at first, anyway). There are only normal matches up right now, but taking 3 sniper shots to kill someone is kinda frustrating. I'd be much happier if health didn't regenerate so that hitting them twice was still useful. Also, I would've liked a bolt action rifle to start with.

You can't choose what squad you want to join, and even if you join with a party you aren't guaranteed to be in the same squad as your party members.

The battlelog is a farce. You have to use a facebook interface to join find a server. If you want to switch servers, you essentially have to reboot the game.

You can't change settings except when you are alive and in-game.

Personally, I think it looks worse than bc2. Friends have said they saw great improvement, but for me, running at Ultra at 1440x900 looks worse. Just very blurry to me and I even disabled motion blur and HDR. I just don't like the way it looks.

Map design on metro's first and second MCOM's are poor with obvious choke points (I went 18-0 and 16-3 first two plays, which is not bragging, just obvious abuse of choke points).

Then again, I only played for an hour before deciding to wait for changes.

Yeah it's fantastic, lives up to all the hype about it. Buggy, but it's a beta, so it's what I was expecting. Had some trouble at the start with connecting via battlelog (kept throwing a generic error code 2), but after maybe 10 mins of this it proceeded to work fine up to now, so I dunno what was going on there.

Loads of glitchers and maybe one or two hackers in the games. As soon as it transitioned from the 2 day pre-order/MoH Special Edition buyer exclusive playtime to the all-inclusive playtime, the quality of games just took a nosedive as basically all the chaff started flooding into the servers. I'd have much preferred keeping the entire beta exclusive to MoH SE buyers and Pre-orders. But i'm an elitist wanker, so what do I know.

A friend of mine is going to do a Youtube video of a side by side comparison of PS3 and PC footage. He went off my PC (high settings) and his PS3, as soon as he got into the PC version, he said that the console version just doesn't stand up.

Anyway, overall very pleased, can't wait for full release.

Lots of sore losers here. I din't have any problem with the map itself, I thought it was great. I won both defending and attacking. It is important that you work with your squad though, and use suppressing fire. So, maybe it isn't the map that is the problem if you know what I mean?

Anyway, I'd like to see the issue with Squad being split up. If I start a game with my friends, I'm pretty sure we want to be in a squad, and the same team, once we start playing. Kinda like in AC: Brotherhood where they would throw you in diffrent games alltogheter.

Overall though, it was a ton of fun, I played it with some friends and they loved it though, it's strategic, it's fast, it looks great and the beta is free.

Go play it.

It's good, but the 'lying prone in a bush' tactic drives me nuts.

It also looks rather average on my 360. Crysis 2 was better looking in my eyes, Frostbite appears to shine more on PC.
Hey Miracle is the beta just not working for you now?
I was having a great time on it, stopped to pwn some fools on Gears and now I can't connect because EA is retarded :-/

Installed the game, but apparently I can't "ping local servers". Already set the firewall to allow anything that I could find that was related to Battlefield 3, Battlelog, and Origin, but nothing.

When they make it playable on the PS3 I'll get back to you. For now, all that happens is people falling through the map every few steps. I'd be lenient if it was one small spot, but nope. Almost 60% of the map is an intangible deathtrap.

From a console perspective, it isn't impressive in the slightest. The frostbite 2 engine looks NO DIFFERENT in this beta to BFBC2. And with 28 days to release, i know the end product will be nigh-on identical. Friend/foe identification needs a BIG tweak. Hit marker needs to NOT get in the way of target at medium to long range. AK74U Is the only gun anyone will ever need.

All in all..this is BFBC2.5, and i got 10 workmates who say the same goddamn thing. I mean, we'll buy it and all..but when November 8th comes around, i don't think it'll serve as anything other than a 'take-a-break-from-CoD' Game.

No doubt it's a different story on the PC, but EA/DICE should have known better than to sh!tTalk Activision, then deliver 0, thats ZERO, innovation on the MOST popular gaming platforms - the consoles -.

"you've only seen operation metro, and one game mode, you can't make that call yet"

The hell i can't, this may be the biggest and the best when you have an i9 quadcore beast, but on a console it's suffering. IW go ON about 60 fps, but now that ive seen the two games running i can see why, IW'S shooters are the king of smooth. This game is waaay more BFBC series than BF series, which is a shame.

Dunno dude, I stopped to continue my Gears 3 solo Insane run - so much more fun than waiting in lobbies! :)
