I'm sorry, but...what?

Have you played a Battlefield game? While, yes, they are both FPS' set in modern times, the two games are completely different at their core. MW2 is all about fast-paced, arena-style combat, BC2's battles take place with tanks, helicopters, HMMWVs and an assortment of vehicles all at the players' command across some pretty big damn maps.

Modern Warfare 2 is a game designed for the twitchy, frat boy-esque, Counter-Strike crowd whilst BC2 is more of a thinking man's "blow the shit out of everything" shooter. That's not even counting destructible environments, no killstreak rewards, no perks, etc.
This. Apart from both having guns in them, there's hardly anything similar in them.

I love this game but it is very buggy server wise. I mean like half of the people who bought it cant play the multiplayer.
You may want to lookup the definition of "bug (computer science)". If you would read the article:
John Funk said:
Demand for the game was so high across the board that all three versions had technological issues created by overloaded servers. According to a post on the Battlefield blog [http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2010/03/07/battlefield-bad-company-2-server-update-2010-03-07.aspx##], producer Gordon Van Dyke said that developer DICE was allocating further resources to help lighten the load.

Exactly. BTW CS is a lot more strategic than MW2, maybe Quake is a better term for comparison?

I'm so glad this game is an improvement over the last BC. I couldn't stand the previous one at all... I'm actually having quite a bit of fun with this one. I just wish I could find some damn hardcore servers on the PC. Or be able to add server IP's manually.

Pardon me?
Are you honestly saying that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is a thinking man's FPS?

You know, I played the demo for a while, and I can't disagree more. Apparently I'm the only person not drooling over this ho-hum release, but nothing about this game says 'the thinking man's FPS'. At all.

And I don't get this 'Modern Warfare is for frat-boys' (and thus implying it to be a 'not thinking' FPS) mentality. It's faster paced, you certainly got that right, but 'frat-boy-esque'? I fail to see how the game is designed that way.

More on topic: Good for Dice. More competition is only a good thing for consumers, and it doesn't do anyone any good to have one company dominating a part of the market.

So, er, where's the PC demo for this game? I'd really like to play this, especially as I really wanted to play the first Bad Company but never got to because it wasn't on PC. I'm not taking a risk at 34.99GBP.

Actually those are a different kind of servers, so they may or may not fix them independently from the game ones. The stats site for BC1 has always suffered from overload even a lot after the launch of the game.

I've been wanting to get this, but im not sure whether to get it on PC or Xbox. I have the first Bad Company on Xbox, and so it was relatively easy to find twats online. However, only 16% of copies of B:BC2 were bought on PC, so there might not be many full servers with low ping on PC.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
The PC version. There are plenty of good servers and the higher player cap and custom server setting really add alot to the game.

Servers get fixed and we get to join servers in less than 5 minutes and Heavens open and cornflakes pour out of them in a golden lake of milk?

Thou hast missed the beta.

No way they are going to give you a multiplayer beta. And single player, while pretty damn good, is not the real thing.

Dosnt surprise me. Seen alot of people with it, and owning it...I am actually glad in a way.

I like the way BBC2 works as compaired to MW2. Although in the same genre, they way they work, and do things is very different...

Now only if they could sort the server glitching problems...

Basically put down: Battlefield games are strategic and rely less on the "skill" of the single player. If you play in a decently organized and coherent team, you will obtain incomparably better results, while in MW2 (and most other non-class-based) FPSs it's more about being able to shoot people better than they can shoot you.
As all games that privilege skill over teamwork (in loose terms), it caters more to those who strive to achieve mere superiority over their peers, to achieve a sort of "alpha status", that is, the "fratboy" kind of people.

Ugh....why does the derivative crap always sell so well? MW2 and now BBC2. Why do people continue to buy this generic, shoddily controlling crap?

Are people really that thick?

NICE. I seriously plan on getting the game within the next 168 hours(7 days) but I think I'm going to ignore the single-player campaign and just hit multiplayer. But if there are no achievements in multiplayer then I'll go through the SP maybe once just to get some gamerscore and push my count into the 20k point region.

despite the pc version having sold fewer copies than either console version dice has said that the pc version has more people playing online than both the ps3 and the 360 versions COMBINED.

Why do people always criticize things they have no idea about?

Name me 5 things, except for the setting and genre, that two games have together.

MW2:

- Arcade-esque multiplayer, with quick-regen and knifing over 10 meters.
- No dedicated servers, where hosts have a ping of 0 and everyone else 200+

BFBC2:

- Teamplay > all
- Dedicated servers
- Destructible environment (no more camping inside of buildings)

Seriously, the only things they have in common that it's a modern-world battle of America vs Russia and that both games are FPS.
