Why does the plot need to involve the Cold War? The thing I like about Sci-Fi blockbusters is they usually don't involve history (or Hollywood's extremely sketchy interpretation of it). It's a film about robots arriving from space; no bullshit conspiracy theories need to be added.

As for the film, well it'll probably just be another excuse for Bay to show his massive hard-on for military tech and the U.S. Armed Forces, interspersed with poorly shot robot fight scenes and poorly written romantic dialogue.

Bay is the problem with this franchise, not Fox, LeBoeuf or the writers.

Considering This Is Going To Be Yet Another God-Awful Sequel Bay Might As Well Make It With The Animal-Transformers From The Cartoon... Or Am I The Only One Young Enough To Remember That?

I'd like to see a prequel i.e. the war on Cybertron. Two hours of giant robots beating the living shit out of each other continously just seems to good an opportunity to drop

If you mean the Robots in Disguise series with the four unimaginably stupid Predacons, then you're fine.
If you mean Beast Wars, you are hereby sentenced to three months of intense torture.

Yeah...I remember that...I remember that everyone had mismatched voices.
For the criminal offence of insulting, among others, voice actors Gary Chalk and David Kaye, you are hereby sentenced to be bound to the underbelly of a camel suffering from chronic diarrhoea for the duration of one day, in a way that your head is facing skyward and positioned directly beneath the sick animal's anus.

... Why not just play "Transformers: War for Cybertron", which will be released on June 22nd? That way you'll probably get about 10 hours and more fun than just sitting still and doing nothing.

He just needs to learn when to cut out unnecessary scenes. And he is starting to get it.
Yes like this scene;

This is absolutely needed in the film, it tells us that the character is fit and firm therefore will be good at running away from giant robots, what that means is that scene is needed to make us believe her surviving a robot onslaught is plausible.

Michael Bay is clearly a genius.
Wait I'm confused, that is sarcasm right?
It was sarcasm, but it actually kinda makes sense, which is scary.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I like the character. I love most of the 'cepties, but Shockwave? As the big bad? Why not Unicron? Or Cyclonus? Or anything besides a third tier character who was barely ever featured doing anything other than saying, "Shall I press the button now, sir?"
Wait, you think Shockwave is a third tier character and a disappointing villain? The Decepticon Leader that took on and defeated all five Dinobots in battle by himself?

And you suggest Cyclonus as an alternative? Starscream without any personality?
First off, the Dinobots aren't all that hard to beat (or have them beat themselves) if you're at least as smart as a 3rd grader.

Cyclonus had more personality than any of the others, barring Starscream, Megatron and the like. He was an honorable warrior, who was very military and honor-minded, kind of like Dinbot in Beast Wars, but with less snarling.

In fact, as I mentioned above, Starscream's spark actually possessed Cyclonus once.... it was not an improvement. And that comes from a guy who would suck each of the Seekers dicks if they had them.

As for Beast Wars... I liked it. Second best series after G1, imo.

FLAME ON!

(I kid, I kid, I like all TF stuff...except the new one. Too kiddie.)

I for one am happy. I am now 29, and like some people here, I grew up with TF. I have a HUGE collection of the toys, and I still pop in an episode of the cartoon on the DVD player every now and then.

And here's the thing: I actually LOVE the movies. And to make matters even more confusing, I despise Bay. The man is a cancer on the movie industry, but for the TF movies, he has Spielberg reigning him in every now and again. And it shows. The TF movies are family films, silly Summer blockbuster fun, but they ARE fun to watch. Here's what a lot of people are missing, something that annoys the hell out of me: if you like one thing, you don't have to hate something else to make up for it. It's perfectly alright to like both the cartoons and the movies. Shocking, I know.

Huh, finally he gets a tinge of sense..

..However, I trust Bay with movies like I trust air to catch me falling off a cliff. Curious, I admit, but I'm not wasting $10 bucks for a ticket to watch Bayformers again, sorry.

Well, this is good news. But nowhere near good enough for me to get even the least bit excited for this movie. I'll see it in the theater but not until it plays at my local dollar theater.

All I have to say is

YAAAAARRRRR!!!

Wait... They're NOT doing dorky humor? Dang too late. =/
I will go see that movie if that pirate is in it.

And no more Michale Baying? SWEET! Now, there's the still the mystery of why at the end of TF1 Bumblebee was able to talk but in TF2 he had to communicate by the car radio again.

I would have taken the Twins over any of the scenes with the mum in it. There were many problems with the second movie.

I can't help but fear for this third movie. I'm 24 now and grew up loving the Transformers and it's a huge part of my childhood. I was OK but disappointed with the first movie, really disappointed with the second.

This third movie has so much ground to cover to make up for the first two. I personally think it's an impossible task and part of me wishes for a reboot with a different team making the movie. But I will stay open to be surprised.

Please make this movie good and show why Transformers is amazing.
I'm in the same boat you are. I'm debating whether or not I'll even bother going to see this one. More than likely I will just in case it's actually good, but I don't believe it will be, and it's hard to get excited about that.

I think a balance is needed between the action and comedy elements - which happened in the franchise's first installment. A movie about giant robots that transform into human vehicles has to acknowledge its B-movie campiness (and hopefully cashes in on the license that campiness allows). No one wants a pretentiously serious movie about giant robots in disguise, do they?
