I make a separate distinction between Cinema, Film and mere Movie. It also helps that I prefer mindless trash as it gives my brain a rest...The_root_of_all_evil said:I'd "REALLY" like to see some evidence for that opinion.Uncompetative said:His first Transformers was the best movie of all time
Specifically how it beat certain other "best movies of all time", like Citizen Kane, Psycho, Doctor Strangelove, Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, Back to the Future, Bladerunner, Casablanca, Star Wars, The Third Man, Taxi Driver, Singing in the Rain, Fight Club, Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark or The Godfather.
So, ranking by category best to worst (using your choices):
Cinema
Blade Runner
Taxi Driver
Citizen Kane
Film
The Third Man
Fight Club
Psycho
Doctor Strangelove
The Godfather
Casablanca
Movie
Transformers
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Wizard of Oz
Star Wars
Back to the Future
Singing in the Rain
Jaws
Logically, any multi-genre movie is automatically superior than any single genre movie. Every genre in the mix is handled compellingly and the whole thing holds together with an unexpectedly high level of coherence. It should be a mess, but it transcends its disparate parts to become a perfect popcorn, lucrative video game spin-off and merchandising tie-in, blockbuster.Transformers is the ULTIMATE MOVIE as it manages to combine:
- high school romance
- family comedy including a cute dog
- kung-fu
- the President of the United States
- car chases
- the U.S. Military
- cybercrime
- alien invasion
- Arctic exploration
- killer robots
- mysterious "Men in Black"
- breakdancing
- Musical numbers*
With visuals so pervasive and convincing that I totally forgot that I was watching CGI after the first ten minutes.
