I hear IGN gave Duty Calls a 8.5 because the developer bribed th...I mean because the game was so well made with solid gameplay and a compelling story.

On a side note someone please tell me Yatzee will review this game. He said it himself there's not much comming out now so why not?

Sort of, though combos were never part of UT. I just wish Epic would get this Gears of War lumbering crap out of it's system and deliver another UT2004
Sure, there was no tangible reward, but how could you forget M-M-M-MONSTER KILL!

I did think it was amusing, but really would have preferred the demo being brought to the PC as well as this piece of advertising.

I barely wander into the forums these days but i had to put in my 2 cents.

First off, I think its hilarious that alot of the stuff that Bulletstorm is mocking here are things that are present in past games that Epic have made. The bloody screen, the lack of controlling a character in a cutscene, the easily beatable bosses - All of those can be found in Gears of War 1 and 2. it seems to me like they are calling the kettle black here.

Also, This ad is reminescent of a something similar to a smear campaign. Instead of - i dont know- showing gameplay footage, they chose to mock a standard set by the market itself. the numbers dont lie. if those type of games sucked, they wouldnt sell. the only reason people make shit is becuase they know for a fact that other people will buy shit. And Epic is partially responsable for this. Near the ending, there is a mockery of both how those games play out how poorly characterized the setting is (refering to the evil general). Meanwhile, Epic boasts a game that is the symbol for some over masculine feelings-are-for-homo-gays group of inproportionate men who go around shootin' aliens and blowing up stuff. But I suppose if this is the definition of smear campaign, then we can only take this at face value.

That bothers me. Its like building a bridge, charging people to get across it, making a plane, then laughing at people who were stupid enough to go on the bridge that you made.

Finally, From a programming prospective, it seems like this was made in Blender and couldve been made in about a week. I find that funny as a PC gamer because here I was waiting for a Demo of Bulletstorm. I think they really dropped the ball on this purchase. I run a computer club at school (it looks good on transcripts) and we were considering getting this. All i have to do tomorrow is say "I say we pass on this one" and they are out 900 dollars (15 people, 60 dollar game). Now, I know 900 is only a drop in the bucket for them, but we've got plenty of other things to purchase.

TL DR - While I enjoyed Call Of Duty and Gears of War equally, I dont think I'll be getting Bulletstorm.

Simply hilarious, although it reminds me of a certain video...

Now I'm even more interested on Bulletstorm than before, let's hope it doesn't suck. Same goes to Duke Nukem Forever.

I love the ad, but it doesn't change my view on the game, which is pretty much the same as that espoused by Drifter and PeePantz:

I saw a video of this earlier today, but I didn't know it was an actual game. Downloading it now.

Bulletstorm, though... As nice as it is to see a shooter break off from the brown, "realistic" military theme, Bulletstorm just doesn't seem very good, and virtually every aspect of it seems geared towards the douchebag demographic.
Ehhh... That's like saying that Duke Nukem is geared towards the douche demographic. Both games are distinguished by being ridiculously over-the-top in every conceivable way: awesome kill moves, profuse profanity, and maybe even juvenile-fantasy-style sex. These games are like mind-candy to contrast with more thoughtful productions, such as Bioshock or Civilization 5.
Duke Nukem is your typical bad-ass action hero. He says funny one liners, he has lots of sex and he shoots aliens. The main character of Bulletstorm spends the majority of his time being extremely annoying and shouting the kind of insults you'd expect from a twelve year old.
Agreed. This game looks more like one of those "Not Another Teen Movie" or "Superhero Movie". Those movies are intended to be a parody and make fun of all the cliched movie genres, but in reality, these movies are so cliche themselves and down right terrible. There's ways to do things right aka Duke Nukem and ways that make you less then the source aka Bulletstorm.
Not that Bulletstorm looks like a terrible game. I've tried my hand at the PS3 demo, and despite my cursing the imprecise thumbsticks that I was forced to use (scored a 7500-ish on my first only try, never once hitting what I was actually trying to aim at), the game appears to have some potential for fun.
I may pick it up long after the hype dies for $20 or less... but only if it comes out on Steam at some point. I stay far, far away from Games for Windows Live.

I was thinking a similar thing: that's great that their developers spent their time making Duty Calls, but they could have spent that time polishing up the real game, y'know, the one that's actually going to be reviewed and sold?
By the looks of it, and the voice overs it only took them a day or two to make this.

Look, this was made by People Can Fly, not Epic. Gears of War doesnt have blood on screen (its the logo that has blood but the blood doesnt spread for the entire screen). Also, this was made in Unreal Engine and in probably a day or two, most of the models they probably already had, and you can see that everything is very basic (the voices were probably from the guys who work there). There isnt much to complaint.

Too bad Bulletstorm is boring too. At least it doesn't take itself too seriously, but from what I got from the demo, the whole game is gonna be

1: Use gravity whip thing and/or destructive scenary.
2: Shoot/kick into terrain
3: ????
4: Profit Gimmick wears off quickly
Not as quickly as the "wow, you can also aim down sights to shoot enemy" shooting gimmick in the CoD series got old.

Bulletstorm shooting has so much more lasting potential as least in shooting because there simply are more ways you can kill the enemy.

Epic never did realistic shooters, and anyway all they are doing here is bankrolling the project, People Can Fly are actually making the game so you should get your facts straight. I hope you know who those guys are.

Also if this game is apparently so easy to make, I'd like to see what work YOU have made from scratch in a week. I'm a PC gamer and I too am butthurt over the demo and GFWL situation but you've got to take the good with the bad, don't let it get to you.

I suggest your computer club holds out for a Steam Bundle, you heard of those, they sell like six-copies of a game for a total of $25, so $4 each.

From what I remember, Painkiller didn't do so great on release, yet sure picked up as a kinda 'cult' game later on, thanks partly to the ZP review of it right here.

I'd have to say to all the people saying they'd prefer a demo to these videos, sadly, marketing and brand awareness is all too important now, and just having a great game isn't enough to make it sell well, and we've all seen mediocre games with huge ad budgets sell by the bucketload too *cough*blackops*cough*.

Considering hardly anyone has really played BS yet, we can only go by the ads and trailers.

I still go back into Painkiller every now and then, because the weaponry, enemies and action are just plain fun, a word that seems to have been forgotten in FPS games in favour of words like 'realism' 'plot' and 'greyish brown everything'.

While most of the videos have shown what BS will be, this one is just showing what it ISN'T, and that could pull in even more interest!

(Yes I know BS is an unfortunate acronym)

Would be nice to get more marketing campaigns like this, problem is they usually take a lot of time and resources to make so...hope this didn't chew up too much of that.

But regardless...nice to see one bit of marketing that I genuinely adore heh.

God I loved that mission objective briefing, only because it's so true. Who actually listens to that stuff? Most people just want to get off the plane/helicopter and shoot things. There were numerous times in Halo where I heard the mission objective, only to stand there blasting Covenant 10 minutes later figuring out what the hell I was sent here to do.

At least Bulletstorm doesn't seem to have any delusions; It's just juvenile, dumb and crazy and isn't trying to look like more.
