10-2 was a kick in the balls but I forgave them. I saw the trailer for FF12 and was very excited, and that was an even harder kick in the balls but still I forgave them. I saw the trailer for FF 13 and I was beyond excited and that game grew arms, got a Cricket bat and beat the shit out of me.

I have no more faith in Square Enix anymore. In fact now I think about it I have never liked a Square Enix game. The last Final Fantasy I liked was 10 and that was the last game made by Squaresoft before they merged with Enix.
You know, I've seen you post essentially this exact same thing in a strangely large number of threads. It's not that I'm annoyed or anything, just noticed it is all.

So it's a tech demo. I suppose I'm supposed to care about this? Well I don't. When I'm likely not to play a game on that engine for the next several years I find it hard to get worked up over its capabilities.
wow really? I guess there have been more than a few FF threds recently. Unless you have a really good memory.

Looking back on my post history you are right but this has been my opinion for a long time.
My memory is amazing for concepts, but terrible for names. That and I think you posted on the Versus rumor thread as well as a couple random older ones I remembered somehow. It helps that you have a fairly distinctive avatar.

I have Gizmo for two reasons:
1. He is awersom
2. anyone who gets angry at something I post just has to look at him and the anger just evaporates because he is just so damn cute.

If they actually make this into a game I'll play it.

If they make another run of the mill FF, I'll ignore it.

Simple really.

Reluctantly I tried FF 13 to try and catch up since they said FF 13-2 was good. I still haven't beaten it. This does look good however, almost cutting out the middle man of rendered cutscenes. If this isn't only a demonstration of what Square Enix is capable of, but what the industry can create in the next gen, I remain hopeful that we are in for at least a visual ride.

Yes it's pretty, but what about gameplay? What about a small story to go with this tech demo? These are the real questions that need to be answered Square. FF13 graphics were fine as the next big step in graphic design.

I liked FF13, but after FF10, none of the other games interested me whatsoever. FF11 was boring, FF12 made me want to destroy it and FF14 I did not care for as soon as I heard it was going to be an "MMORPG" (way before the whole disaster happen).

Eh, FF13 is still the most beautiful looking game for me. Can't put my finger on why, character design maybe (for the faces). Also, there is absolutely no need to make another engine when the crystal engine looks that good. Stop wasting money Square Enix.
Agreed. Stop wasting money on graphics and start on the other 2 things that make a game good: Story and gameplay.

And yes yes! Glad I'm not the only one thinking this. Final fantasy focuses wayyy too much on being pretty. FF13 was marvelously beautiful...but the story sucked lard balls. And the characters.. *shudders*

If only they 'get this'. The combat system wasn't even bad...but we have other games like Persona 4 which look last-gen, but have much better stories/characters, and I'd definitely prefer the latter. But why not have BOTH?!

Also

*looks at video*

so it's confirmed? FF15 will come out in 8 years? >_>

Ignoring small hints to the Final Fantasy universe, I wasn't sure if I was watching a Resident Evil trailer or a Final Fantasy trailer. I can't deny the beauty of the tech demo, but I can't say I liked the art direction much (at least when it's meant to fall within the Final Fantasy universe). Anyway, it was just a Squeenix tech demo, so I won't allow myself to go beyond hoping we see that level of tech in a FF game... eventually.

Well like I said, I did like FF13 for the gameplay (mostly, hated the auto attack button), most of the characters (I would totally put a wedding ring on Lighting Farron if I could =3c) and I thought the story was decent (not saying it could not have been tweaked, but I still liked it.) Showing this as a mini story with gameplay could get more people to get excited about it instead of just showing a pretty Real time scene.

This is the engine that Nomura confirmed Versus 13 was using. So first Versus 13, then FF15.

Interesting. Certainly felt very different from what Final Fantasy usually feels like, but they've experimented with more "realistic" elements to varying degrees before. Also, the healing glowy soda thing acts in the way I always imagined Cure spells worked: spontaneous cell regeneration to mend wounds, sometimes painfully.

Pretty sure that's what the guys with AKs were thinking when they got zapped with lightning, yeah.

Doesn't look much like a FF game, aside from the dragon popping in at the end. But whatever, I thought the same thing when FFXIII was announced.

One thing I didn't like was the shaky camera effect. They've done this before and all but it seemed like too much in this case. There wasn't much to figure out there but I gave me a hard time when I was watching the demo.

And yes! I love FF graphics and all. I remember when I played FFVIII and I thought it couldn't get any better than that. I love that aspect but not as much as I'd love a good story. FF is known for having epic stories (Mostly love stories. Nothing wrong with that; they're good at it). But as of lately, I haven't felt that kind of epic-ness from a FF game. I love my FF games and I own most of them. But the latest FF hasn't made me want to play it nonstop like I used to. I haven't played FFXIII in months and FFXIII-2 is waiting for me too. I just don't know. *Sigh*

Anyway, I'd say Square has enough chiz on their plate as it is. FFXIV, FF Versus, that TWEWY2 rumor, maybe bringing Type 0 to the US, KH3 if they ever decide to work on it...but no good games coming out soon. I guess maybe Hitman and Tomb Raider but I wouldn't even count those. You know why.

Me: :D Nice graphics!

Square Rep: Thank you.

Me: Will you put the same efforts on gameplay, and storytelling when the next game comes out?

Square Rep:Uh....

Me: -_^ Uh....what?

Square Rep: Well we got a bunch of tenth graders writing the story and a dog is doing the gameplay...but, hey look at them graphics!

Me: Um, that's great, but what about--

Square Rep: Sparkly Graphics!

Me: but,--

Square Rep: Spirits Within was a graphically impressive movie!

Me: -_- THat's great square,,just great...pretty,pretty graphics.*yawn.*

Seriously ,Square just give us a good game please! I beg of you, I used to love you guys now I fell weird knowing a quarter of my RPG experiences came from your games.

What a lovely tech demo. Pity the FF series is just so horrible now that I find it almost impossible to be excited by what this may become

I thought "tech demo" had a different meaning from "cgi cutscene?" Becuase that's all this was, a cgi cutscene, and I've learnt never to trust those until I see some actual gameplay. As for the actual scene itself, honestly, I could barely even tell what was happening at parts, too much fucking shakeycam. Was I supposed to be impressed by this or somehting?

Can't say they don't know their own series, when they put so much focus on just the visuals.

They say real-time but is that real-time on a PS3 or real-time on a high end PC?
Probably real-time with the kind of hardware you'd use in a professional workstation built to model and program a big game, like maybe a Quadro 6000 GPU. Probably won't see any of that game before the next generation of console hardware.
[small](Keyword being "see". What? It's a Final Fantasy game.)[/small]

"We just want to make films. When will you realize?" Square Enix according to Yathzee

Square Enix can make great cutscenes, I'll give them that, but the gameplay tends to be more then a bit lackluster. So no, not excited at all.
