Final Fantasy 8, the music, the graphics at the time, the way it hinted at different parts of the story with out giving anything away and on top of all that the main character and protagonist slugging it out with cool as weapons on a mountain in a storm.

It set the pace of the game, and the music just made it feel epic.

Im not sure...I'm quite fond of the intro for Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus, as well as the one for Sid Miers Alpha Centauri :) the music in that was epic...

Hands down best intro:
Ninja Gaiden for the NES. For one it had an intro, but it was an awesome high speed battle between two ninjas.

War has changed.

It's not about nations, or ideologies.
It's not even about profit, resources, or ethnicity.

It's an endless series of proxy battles,
fought by mercenaries and machines.

War, and its vast consumption of human life,
has become a rational, well-oiled business transaction.

War has changed.

ID-tagged soldiers carry ID-tagged weapons,
use ID-tagged gear.

Nanomachines inside their bodies
enhance and regulate their actions.

Genetic control.. Information control..
Emotion control.. Battlefield control.

Everything is monitored, and kept under control.

War has changed.

The age of deterrence is now the age of control,
averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction.

And he who controls the battlefield, controls history.

War has changed.

When the battlefield is under total control,

war... becomes routine.
This (Metal gear solid 4: Guns of the patriots)

These words, acompanied by outstanding music, just blew me away.

Well, it's not really an intro, but if you stay at the start screen long enough in Mass Effect, you'll get a cut scene. It does a good job of introducing you to the scope of the game, and the depth of some of the morality decisions you'll have to make within the game.

Couldn't find the one I'm talking about, so the epic-ness of this trailer will have to suffice:

I am also going for the first Dawn of war, because it just displays the brutal awesomeness of the marines, even if their chapter sucks.

honourable mention goes to hellgate london, game was mediocre, but the intro was killer.

I say Bioshock, the whole thing was one epic interactive movie of awesomeness. The intro was cool, the random creepy/exciting moments were awesome. I mean come on, *Spoilerish* who else didn't think that first Splicer was gonna rip through the Bathysphere and rip you a new one?

I vote for Dawn of War as well.
Normally I would skip intro videos... I didn't skip that one.
