Even though i like others i have to say Bioware, They have made RPG's for 15 years without making a decidedly bad game (in my opinion), Even though some of their games are better than others they never delivers crap.

Bioware for the consistent high quality alone.

Hmm. Iv heard of that vampire game i might check it out. "Deemed too awesome" seems to happen allot doesn't it like say system shock and Black isle. Personally i love Bethesda allot and would probably kill someone if the elder scrolls 5 got canceled.
Bloodlines is probably in my top 3 rpgs of all time. To date, it is the only rpg I've gone back and played again. I love it. It's buggy though, Troika had a bad habit of releasing flawed perfection, if you catch my drift. Not unlike Obsidian or how some people feel about Bethesda.
I don't know how anyone can say obsidian is the best. their just making sequels to bio-wares game and now they've gotten real original and made a sequel to a Bethesda (or black isle) game. oh yeah they did make alpha protocol but that sucked.
Obsidian=Barnacle
OT-what was that other game you mentioned, something about steam?

Morrowind is very near and dear to my heart so I will say Bethesda. My experience with western rpgs older than that is very limited though. I've always wanted to play Arcanum though. Was that developed by Troika?

Because some of their games are better than those by Bioware? Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer for example easily outmatches anything Bioware made for the original Neverwinter Nights singleplayer-wise. And although Kotor 2 was buggy as hell, it had some extremely good ideas and the story was fantastic!

Besides, I love Alpha Protocol.

Anyway, Bioware's still my pick for best rpg developer, even with what I said above. They're the only studio out there that has yet to have disappointed me. Even their worst games (In my opinion) like Jade Empire are still leagues better than almost anything else out there.

WRPG's Bethesda, or Bioware..
JRPG'S Square pretty much dominates, but Ape/Brownie Brown are still beastly for the Mother Series :3

Really people? Square-Enix? That's what some of you are saying?

Just to clarify, I'm not hating on JRPGs, just the notion that Square-Enix Develops the highest quality RPGs. Which I find absurd.

Everything said in this thread is opinion. You may not see them as the best but some do.

I certainly didn't say Obsidian is the best but they are a great developer that gets a lot of misplaced flack due to their publisher's decisions. Nothing wrong with making sequels when they're good.

As for something about Steam? No idea what you're talking about.

Bioware. Far and above. They sport some of the best characterization I've ever seen in any medium.

I just wish they'd figure out how to do the whole gameplay aspect. They've been improving recently but they're still not quite there yet.

I've gone through a lot of developers of RPGs lately and also lost interest.

Square I loved for FFV-VII and Tactics, Parasite Eve, Brave Fencer Musashi but lately I hate their games.

SEGA made great RPGs like Phantasy Star 1,2,4 Shining Force, Landstalker but now they make Phantasy Star Online which bores me to no end.

Nippon Ichi has entertained me a lot with Disgaea, a fabulous series that's got quite a bit of character to it, but it's been the same game three times, just with tweaks.

Bioware blew my mind with Mass Effect (my first game from them) and more so with the Sequel, then Dragon Age has been spiffy from the gameplay I've been through.

Bethesta I like but I can't play their games often because of the flaws that drive me nuts. (Character animations, balancing issues, relying heavly on modders)

So who's my favorite? ...I dunno I don't really enjoy the companies as much as I do their games.

Opinions are not (should not be, anyway) protected from criticism. Opinions are frequently wrong.

There is such a thing as objectivity. For example, while Final Fantasy 1 is my second favourite Final Fantasy game, I realize that it is not necessarily the second best Final Fantasy game.

Bioware, because the other B-company didn't wow me with Fallout 3, and I'm ethnocentric to play a JRPG (plus I hear too many rumors that they're God awful).

I just started playing Mass Effect 2 again on my 4th or 5th playthrough thus far, and I'm still wowed by the story and characters.
