It's set in Skyrim (hence the title), the homeland of the Nords.

I'm pretty excited about it, since it looks like it could be similar to the Bloodmoon expansion to Morrowind.

On topic: Hurray, new engine!
Noooo, my computer probably won't be able to run it at anything but the lowest settings!

Perhaps now the third-person view animations won't look so terribly awful? Probably not.

But yay for improvements nonetheless! Really, they kind of have to use a new engine considering what happened with Vegas. The current one is dated, and has always been very buggy.

Oh thank god! It's about time they ditched that buggy piece of shit!

Question! Never played Elder Scrolls Morrowind or Oblivion (yeah I know..). Could I still play Skyrim when it arrives? Or do I need the other CD's? Will the game make sense?

I'de love to play a good-looking and popular game like Skyrim.
Not really I started by playing oblivion first then morrowwind both games are basiclly there

own game with no actual story connectin the to so you should be okay.

And I wager it will follow the pattern of every other Bethesda game since Daggerfall....

Have a terrible interface, buggy scripts, and broken gameplay mechanics that will need to be fixed by modders before the game becomes playable.

But the catch is that unless you wait about two years for an "overhaul" package to become available you need to play the game for 2-3 "test" runs to know which mods you need.

I can only assume console players have terribly low standards to be able to make it through any vanilla gambryo/bethesda game.

Most people who played Oblivion hadn't tried Morrowind before, and I'm sure that not playing Oblivion won't hamper the gameplay for Skyrim. Know that this series isn't for everybody however.

Also, the Elder Scrolls universe is really well constructed, and you will probably miss a lot of references to previous games. But if you like your experience with Skyrim, you'll know more about its world and you'll be able to appreciate more obscure references in Elder Scrolls VI ;-)

About damn time. They should have done the same for New Vegas.
You mean that game they published and didn't develop? :)

Awesome news but kinda knew this already, they've done it with pretty much every ES release in the past. Still... I shall keep a spare pair of underwear for when they showcase the engine, remembering Oblivion's graphics showcase, I'm gonna need 'em :p

I just hope the engine stays as Moddable as its older counter part, because mods just made me love the fact that I chose the PC route.

Heres hoping the new engine doesn't move like a pregnant cow

I hope engine is at least more stable than Gamebryo. If the new one doesn't support mods I'm gonna be pissed )and I won't be alone).

Sounds great!

Of course it always sounds great, it'll only actually be so if this new engine is at least as stable as the old one. If it's not then I doubt I'll get much enjoyment out of even the most photorealistic NPC's with varied dialogue. I'd hope they've put stability first and graphics second when designing this one, only the NPC's were really a problem with the latter, otherwise more detailed textures and a few different design choices is all that's really needed.

So the bankruptcy of Emergent Game Technologies (the guys who made Gamebryo) this summer did the world a tiny bit of good then?

Also, they aren't using the ID tech 5 that they now own licensing rights for?
When you have a ready built solution that's slightly ahead of the game then it seems odd to build a new engine in house.

This was pretty much what I was assuming. Let's hope it's true.

As long as they fix the way you interact with NPCs Ill be happy. I really did not like that dial system when you were trying to befriend someone for more info.

Overall though Im very excited about this, but its a shame its nearly a year away. I wonder if they'll include some form of online co-op though? There was that mod for Oblivion that allowed two players to play on the same area but it was very buggy last time I checked.

I used to spend quite a few hours playing Neverwinter Nights online, ploughing through the quests with friends, and that was awesome fun. Would be nice to see a similar experience in the TES universe.
