Really, they're not even going to say what the reward is? I wouldn't do it anyway but I'm even less inclined to since the reward will probably just be some kind of public humiliation. If there was a sizeable monetary reward however...

Would prbably fit if they live in eastern Europe. correct me if im wrong. And cant the parents legally change the name of the baby?
While "Dovahkiin" may sound like a Russian or ex-Russian republic-originating surname, it doesn't sound like a first name in this part of the world either.

Are they buttfucked insane?! No parent is going to call his/her child something weird because of a videogame!

It's like if your parents are hippies the chance is your name will be Rainbow.

This is getting too far. The kid won't have a choise in picking a race in D&D, it'll always be Dragonborn.
Ironic if the kid grows up hating video games and board games and anything of the like.

Lonely male seeking equally lonely female to engage in sex to conceive a child to win a contest that may or may not provide a copy of a video game.

I wonder how many couples who are Betheda fans will use this contest as a justification to start trying to have children...

Well isn't that just great. Condemning kids to years of bullying for the sake of publicity. I hate to be a killjoy, but really...?

So parent's want their kids to suffer years of bullying cause their name is "Dragonborn". After that what are they going to do with the baby? Put it on phucking ebay? Aaaagh, sometimes I want to cough blood on the gaming community!
They could raise it to adulthood; I hear that's a common practice when dealing with infant humans.
I do hope people noticed the name isn't actually "Dragonborn"
It's Dovahkiin
....Seriously?

Yes parents, subject your child to years of bullying. I know it seems cruel, but you'll get a shiny prize.

I'd certainly be all right with that name. For one, what the hell is wrong with that name? It's better than my name now... And who else but hardcore nerds are going to know what the name is in there life time anyway? And those people can't be in the position to bully anyone...

OH NOES! (potential) CHILD ABUSE! BOYCOTT BETHESDA!
Goodness..

Any parent willing to name their kid `Dovahkiin` would probably have named it something worse anyway. Like Zuma Nesta Rock, Moxie CrimeFighter, Pilot Inspektor, Kal-El, Bogart Che Peyote, Fifi Trixibell, Peaches, Pixie, Audio Science, etc.

Not sure what kind of bullying the kid might endure. Name sounds fine.

And as mentioned, names can be changed.

I`m more worried about hardcore nerds having children for this reason *only*.

One of the developers confirmed the prize on their Twitter.

The prize is every Bethesda game they've made. Seriously, look it up.

Its a stupid idea, but I would honestly be happy if two things happen:

1) The parents are extremely poor
2) The reward is money the parents use on the child's college

Well, the problem with naming your kid after a video game character is that everyone gets their own personal version of them to do what they wish...

Bethesda Rewarding Parents That Name Children "Dragonborn"

Bethesda doesn't want Dragonborn to exist only in the Elder Scrolls games.

Bethesda is holding an intriguing contest for parents planning to have a child by the end of 2011. If the birth of that child coincides with the release of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim [http://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim-Pc/dp/B004HYIAPM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1298137436&sr=8-3], and the child is named after the game's main character, Bethesda will provide the parents with a special reward.

Bethesda's Pete Hines says that now is the time to conceive if you want a chance at winning. The "unknown" reward will only go to parents of a child born on November 11, 2011 that is given the name "Dovahkiin."

"Dovahkiin" means "Dragonborn" in Skyrim's dragon alphabet, a language designed just for the game. Players of Skyrim take on the role of a Dragonborn, who can use the powers of the dragons [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106979-Elder-Scrolls-V-Similar-to-Mega-Man-With-Dragons] against the massive beasts. In the real world, it might not be as cool a title.

It's sort of a joke and an unofficial contest, at least compared to the one run by Acclaim for Turok: Evolution [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006599O/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00006599Q&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1NT5FHB0ZN48Z1DAH8D5] in 2002 where it offered $10,000 to parents that named their child Turok. A disclaimer reads: "Any reward for completing this quest will not ultimately justify the potential teasing your child could - and probably will - endure over its lifespan. Bethesda Softworks is not responsible for your parenting."

Bethesda's reward is a mystery, the name in this case is a lot stranger, and the child has to be born on a specific date, so it'll probably be tough for parents to go along with the contest. When it comes to Elder Scrolls fans [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107555-Excitable-Elder-Scrolls-Fan-Creates-Animated-Tribute-to-Skyrim], you just never know.

Thanks Eleima [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Eleima]!

Yes, I think I'll ruin my child's life for a vague promise of a reward.

People really need to read the whole article before spewing nonsense about how irresponsible/silly/embarrassing/blah blah blah whaaaaa it would be. Its a freaking joke guys, clearly everything is very serious business. Yes.
