... They're encouraging people to have children with a material reward? Seriously? This is ridiculous...

That's not even considering the name required to be eligible for this 'reward'.
Responsible parenting for the win, right? Right?
/facepalm

Dovahkiin is a pretty cool name.
I wonder what's the prize... Skyrim mouse pad?

It'd be interesting to see what that reward is, especially if it was crazy and over the top xtreme. (Yes I hope that the reward is so extreme that the x kicks the first e out of the word because it's that extreme.)

I think you could be named Dovakhin, on Iceland, and only get a little teasing, though the teasing is still there.

You know what? That name is cool whatever you people say. It's original and was completely non-existent until now, which already makes it better than most generic names going around.

Sure, to name your child something like this to win a contest isn't a good idea, but to be honest if I ever get into a relationship with someone who's as into weird names like this as I am I might seriously consider naming my kid Dovahkiin. Provided it's a boy. I grew up with a weird name, got picked on because it resembled a girl's name and now when I tell people my name they say it's a very nice one. The getting picked on isn't nice but my name is hardly the only thing to blame for that.

Also this name and others originating from fantasy worlds like D&D etc. are far better than naming your child after a fucking car brand.

Yeah I am sure that someone will name thier child that for a stupid prize *rolls eyes* I thought you were better than this bethesda.
I hope you read the whole article... the whole thing is a very tongue-in-cheek proposal. I doubt Bethesda expect anyone to take it seriously.

Did you note the disclaimer, perchance?

On that note... I find it hilarious how seriously you're all taking this. It is almost certainly meant to be taken with several kilograms of salt on the side.

Mind you, Dovahkiin is a pretty sweet name - if you're a seven foot tall blond man painted blue.

Oh good there were not enough people having kids for stupid/no reason. I propose a mighty crusade against marketing departments, they hathe gone mad with power.

Well, now I've something to wait for!

I really wanna know the last name of the kid! Whatever it'll be, it'll be just ridiculous.

And yes, someone will name his/her kid like that, I'm sure about that! Someone will do it just for the sake of it.

And until that happens, I will wait.

It would be hilarious if the reward was just yet another pointless in-game achievement.

"Dad, why did you name me Dovahkiin?"

"For the achievement on xbox 360, of course."

"People are always making fun of me and I have no friends..."

"BUT I NEEDED THAT ACHIEVEMENT!"

"Why? What does it do?"

"Nothing, it's just a label."

:(

So parent's want their kids to suffer years of bullying cause their name is "Dragonborn". After that what are they going to do with the baby? Put it on phucking ebay? Aaaagh, sometimes I want to cough blood on the gaming community!
They could raise it to adulthood; I hear that's a common practice when dealing with infant humans.

Hmmm, well it does make me wonder how many crank responses this is going to get release date with people making fake birth videos, and bogus birth certificates with a humorous bent to see if Bethesda does anything for them for participating in the joke. :)

Me, personally, I'm tempted to make a video on 11/11/11 of Fallout 3 with me naming my newly born character that. Never done any game capturing, but heck, it would be amusing just to get their "that doesn't count" response. :)

Hmm. As awesome as that is, I don't think I'd ever want to have the name of my child directly associated with a marketing ploy.

Kind of takes the personal joy out of that part of becoming a parent, y'know?
Sure, extra geeky kids might actually know why he was named that which could be funny. For the record, I think the name sounds freakin' awesome.

Are they buttfucked insane?! No parent is going to call his/her child something weird because of a videogame!

It's like if your parents are hippies the chance is your name will be Rainbow.

This is getting too far. The kid won't have a choise in picking a race in D&D, it'll always be Dragonborn.

This reminds me of that Facebook group, that promised to name their child "Megatron" if 1 million people joined it....

This is a bit too far, to be honest :S

Personally? I plan to name my kid(s, your gods forbid) something a bit less ordinary like "tom" "sam" or whatever.
