Bethesda Wants Skyrim Mods on Consoles

This seems to be something of a trend in the industry, and it makes me happy. I've always been a fan of console controls, but the lack of mods has always been a bit of a problem for me. If I could get both I'd be very very happy.

That said, I wonder how this'll affect achievements.

I should warn you, after playing 3 bethesda games on my PS3, I?m dedicated to getting this next one for the PC. The PS3 version of any Bethesda game is sure to get the worst support if not complete neglect. Fallout New Vegas was the last straw: half a year, a few patches, and the game is still a mess. I know Skyrim will have a whole new engine but to me that just means they have a whole new engine to work the bugs out of.
Besides the gameplay mods, I want the pc version for the user made patches which always seem to be better than the official ones.
At this point I?d rather keep upgrading my pc rather than continuing to buy games that don?t work.
D'aw. Really?

:(

Mentioning New Vegas basically did the trick right there. I only bought it a few weeks ago when I saw it super discounted, and I remember being super smug that I'd waited for "all the bugs to be fixed" before buying it. Lo and behold it froze the hell up. Multiple times. That's what I get for being pleased with myself.

But, well... maybe if we can figure out how to install user content... we can get fan patches? I know we shouldn't HAVE to, but... still...
Welcome to the club.
Console user content is a first step (to their games being tolerable on the ps3) no doubt but I'm not going to subject my ps3 to more of Bethesda's beta testing. I'll let them try it out for Skyrim while I play it on the PC.

I am wondering how would the graphics mod be written like?
I mean, there is a limit of what consoles can handle so how will a high resolution pack affect the game?

While doing the major modding style (i.e. with Texture, Meshes, Sounds, etc folders) might be impossible, it wouldn't be that hard to allow the .esp (or whatever the equivalent is now) to work on the 360/PS3 versions; sure, they might lose the new armor mods and the like, but you could still get new lands and towns.

Oh god, PLEASE succeed Bethesda.

If I even had a passing interest in this game I would be buying it for the PC anyway but still, this would open up the doors for consoles and user made mods, a door that deserves to be opened for everyone, not just PC users.

Ha! Who says all PC users hate consoles?

My reasoning is only because console users and publishers and developers won't appreciate them.

For PC, mods are essential. They've spawned some of the best games ever made. You have a community on PC that appreciates them and over the past decade, developers and publishers have taken a GIANT dump on the modding community. It's hard enough finding games that are moddable, let alone fully moddable, because "It takes time to release an SDK" and "It's too hard". Boo-fucking-hoo.

I object to releasing mods to consoles. Let console users experience the sweat, blood and tears that it took to form the modding communities of today.

I object to PC modders catering to the same asshole executives who have gone out of their way to treat modding communities like crap.

At the end of the day my opinion probably doesn't matter. However, I post it anyway and also, I bet that if console modding ever became popular, mods as a whole would become simpler and gradually fade away, just like RPGs have become simpler due to consoles to the point that RPG elements have disappeared almost completely, just like FPSs have become simpler due to consoles, etc.

I'm setting up my little wooden barrier against any such a development right here. Join me if you care about the future of mods.

I'm also not responding to anyone else. I think my point is clear.
QQ moar Mr. PC elitist.

Playing on the PC doesn't make you special, nor does it entitle you or anybody to mod tools. SOME devs are nice enough to give them to us but tht doesn't mean developers that dont are "asshole executives".

Seriously, what makes PC users like you an me more entitled to the mods than console users?
Do you donate money to modders? Do YOU mod?

Im going to assume not, since the whole the point of modding is sharing your work freely with others, and you don't seem to realize mod tools are a pain in the ass using a controler.

THANK YOU!!! i hate PC elitists who act like anyone who plays consoles dont deserve squat. it took me months to get amnesia to work on my comp due to these jackasses going "lol u dnt now wut 2 do. u dnt dsrve 2 ply ths gme". truthfully, that attitude is why i personally believe that PC gaming is dying. as they ostracize any and all newcomers

User mods on a console will never happen, simply because the devs will be too worried about keeping their ESRB rating. Have you seen *any* of the adult mods for Oblivion, Fallout 3, and New Vegas, Todd Howard? Guess what the console players will go after first, if available? Yep, you guessed it.

I don't know how that would work, but if Bethesda can pull it off, then this could be revolutionary for consoles.

And maybe it would get some PC elitists complaining, which is always fun.

They still rate PC games...

And all it takes is adding a disclaimer saying "Modded Content not rated by the ESRB"

Bam.

I stand corrected then. Well played, sir.

Why can I see some horrible system where you can only load a maximum of 6-12 mods at a time - and they have to go though a certification process to make sure they don't cook the consoles first?

Here's to hoping that it comes to consoles, I mean the Elder Scrolls have been great games and I would be shattered to see them leave the fun to a PC only audience.

DMRA body replacer on my 360 (among many other NSFW mods)? That's awesome, but something I'd rather keep hidden on my laptop.
