While I don?t mind SecureROM too much as I?ve never really had a problem with it and you can easily find a crack if necessary, I?m against it because its completely pointless as its worked around within 24hrs. However, GfWL is the biggest pain in the arse since I last had hemmeroids. Had to restart games multiple times to get it to log in offline and even then you can use a fake account code. Never had any problem when I bought Fallout 3 after playing a less then legal version.

If Steam had also been required, I wouldn?t have bought it as I?ve not liked Steam ever since I had authorisation problems which meant I couldn?t log in and play my legally bought games for 6 months.

Cool Bioshock 2 just lost all my interest. Why don't developers/producers see that DRM doesn't work? The game will be on torrent sites 3 days before it's out!

I like how some of the people who are railing against GFWL are talking about getting the 360 version.

The point of GFWL is so that you can buy the Windows version and, ostensibly, play against/with those who bought the 360 version. Also, so you can bump up your achievement list with games that may not be available on the 360, or games you'd (Dragon Age, Borderlands) rather play on the PC.

Just why in the holy hell do you people seem to think everything is some bullshit conspiracy? I mean, seriously. SecuROM is demonstrably crap. It screws with your system. GFWL doesn't. GFWL acts as a form of copy protection. A non-invasive form of copy protection. I only have to run GFWL when I'm playing a GFWL-enabled title. The rest of the time, I can leave it closed.

Same goes for Steam.

And for those of you who can't seem to stop whining about DLC, grow a pair. You lost. Deal with it. There's DLC. If you don't want to buy it, that's fine. The rest of us might.

Yay, another game I'll buy and illegally crack. I don't mind registering the install online. But I will not put up with that goddamn Games For Windows LIVE garbage. I don't use Microsoft's shitty messenger programs, and I'm sure as HELL not using one to play games. Go fuck yourself, Microsoft.

It's going to be the pain of getting the computer to like playing the game all over again, isn't it? After struggling through the unnecessary pain of trying to install Dow2 for hours with everything under the sun rejecting it as well.

See, this is exactly what I'm talking about.

Unless you can point to something specific that GFWL does to harm your experience, STFU and GTFO.

I am normally a rabid advocate of giving pirates a kick in the eyepatch, but damn if this doesn't make me want to say "arr, matey" myself.

In truth, though? I won't pirate it. I'll just...y'know...ignore it. Any chance they had of getting my money is 100% gone. But I don't think that gives me the right to steal it.

Ah, you a faithful Internet Explorer 6 user?

There are three easy reasons for me:
1) I don't like it. There are much less bloated, straight-forward messaging apps available.
2) I don't trust it. I don't like my conversations and data being bounced through poorly secured Microsoft servers. Or monitored for usage.
3) It's being forced upon us, removing the freedom to not use it.

That is more than enough to warrant my hate for that malware.

Definitely a good rental, especially considering how damn short the first BioShock was. At worst, if I was busy, I'd be renting it twice. Beats paying $100 (cursed Australian game prices) for the game outright, then finishing it in five minutes, and having adware installed to make it work.

Vote with your feet, people.

A) There are too many flaws with IE6 to list in such a small space.

B) GFWL isn't a messaging app. GFWL is a platform, like XBL. It *IS* XBL, essentially, in PC form. I would like to play games on my preferred platform (PC), and get the same achievements I'd be getting were I playing them on the 360. The GFWL console doesn't even include a messaging app. Windows Live Messenger is a separate application.

C) Your information isn't being "monitored" unless you're reported, and then only the reported event is being monitored. Unless you have some proof otherwise? And what's with the specious accusations of a lack of security? Most major financial institutions have had more privacy breaches than Microsoft.

Also, again, no messaging. Not sure how your conversations will be "bounced through" MS servers any more than they're "bounced through" Valve servers when you're playing L4D/TF/HL2/CS/Whatever.

D) It isn't forced upon you. You're free to get the game on a different platform, or to not use the features of the game that are supplied by GFWL. GFWL means only that you have to run the console and log in while playing. It doesn't mean that you have to use any of the other GFWL features, such as GFWLOD.

The developers chose to implement GFWL features, such as achievements. This is no different than a developer choosing to require pixel shaders.

I'm impressed. They've managed to turn pirated versions of games from cheap copies with plenty of problems into vastly superior products obtained for free. This from somebody who isn't really that interested in Bioshock.

As soon as I saw "requires...Games for Windows LIVE", I knew I would never consider ever buying this game. The rest of it wasn't even icing on the cake, more like decorations.

To quote:
ability to save game, earn achievements, receive title updates and online play requires log-in to Games for Windows LIVE
You know, I might have the audacity to want to save my game, without installing GFWL, having to create an account, and log in to it, every time I want to play. I don't give a damn about Achievements. I don't give a damn about having an online gaming profile. But to save my game, I have to install and run this malware anyway? I don't think so. I won't be held hostage by the people who do care about that crap. Bioshock 2 is going to get cracked. Period.

Aside from my LAN days, I don't play multiplayer games. Never cared. I do however play MMOs. I don't use XFire. I don't use Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, AIM, or any of that other crap. I don't use email clients. I don't use iTunes. I don't allow Java to run in the background. I don't use WMP. I don't use themes. I shutdown unnecessary Windows services. Sure I have plenty of ram, but why bother running something I won't use? I like my system streamlined, and that means garbage apps like GFWL are not going to be installed here. Period. For live chat, I use TeamSpeak. That's it. The only thing on this PC with free reign is my firewall. I won't even allow my antivirus to run by itself.

Let me get this straight. Bioshock 2 has the Batman: Arkham Asylum DRM, Mass Effect DRM, Steam DRM and SecuROM all in the one package? That's just... overkill.

Seriously, it's like they've just taken a step backwards.
