You DO know that Andrew Ryan ran a libertarian/objectivist paradise. There wasn't any law against, say, shooting up heroin, let alone smoking weed.

These are *paraodys*

You really REALLY should play Bioshock.

Edit: That, and saying "No one wants to hear about drug users / supporters / or those against it" is asinine. I didn't know you spoke for everybody as a whole.
He spoke for me at least. This thread is about an artist's work, not your personal preference on illegal substances. I would suggest everyone just comment on the artwork. It keeps the thread on topic and gets around a lot of unnecessary arguing.
So are you saying if there was a thread talking about artwork in which a puppy is shot in the face, but it is set in Dragon Age 2, you would suggest everybody just comment on the artwork?

I am commenting on the artwork. It involves DARE. The artist is portraying DARE as an orginization that reduced the number of teens who tried drugs, even though the opposite was true. I wouldn't be making these comments had he portrayed DARE as the failure it was, and I see no reason for my comments to not be valid in this thread.
First I would ask how those two things are related and then suggest we comment on the artwork.

You do realize that only one poster references DARE right? So talk about the art as a set, don't just point out your personal opinion on one thing referenced in one of the pictures. Your views on DARE are your own, but that is not what this thread is about. This thread is about the art that parodies several anti-drug slogans in the US.

Good day sir/madam, I SAID GOOD DAY! (I will not reply to you again.)
Next time you are in a thread I want to see you talk about everything as a whole 100% equally with no opinion on anything. Seeing as how you kept ranting, you couldn't stay focused any more then you claimed I did.

... You have absolutely no sense of humor, do you? These propaganda posters are clearly parody. How can you look at the ridiculous imagery and goofy wording and NOT come to that conclusion? You're like that insane feminist who's constantly fighting against the release of Duke Nukem.

Chillax bro.
I've gotten 8+ responses full of people harrassing me, and I'm the one that needs to chill out?

Weed is entirely more safe than tobacco and alcohol. Hell, I'd rather raise a child in a world without caffiene than a world without weed. To condemn marijuana with things like meth is silly. 1 person out of 104 people who have smoked weed has tried cocaine. Gateway drug my ass.
For me it was because my brother became the one percent who went on to other, harder drugs. My mother's health got so bad from marijuana that she had a heart attack and beyond that her failing health has made it nigh impossible to leave the house as well as lose many of her jobs, but she still buys the crap. My father couldn't look after me or my brother as a child for he was too high and a danger to us all. It's highly addictive and I know that if I take it I'll end up just like them, because in my family it's what always happens. Not to mention that Marihuana is a psychological drug, not physical, which means you can get rid of the addiction fast but it will always have a hold on you and you'll never be able to escape it. Also creates long term depression especially within the withdrawal stage (like all drugs) and makes mental illness like schizophrenia and bipolar more prolific.

Now, I don't know you, so I don't give a rats ass as to what you do to yourself, I just think the world would be a better place with out Weed... and Coffee and Nicotine. (Tobacco is a harmless, leaf that has no side-effects or benefits, it's not a danger to anyone, the crap they add to the tobacco addictive when making a cigar or cigarette is dangerous.)
Wouldn't the world be better without guns? Or taxes? Or cake? If it would, then should that warrant banning them?

The thread is about anti drug programs, no? Anti drug programs that either A didn't work or B shouldn't include marijuana. Let's say there was a thread about abortion, only people could only talk about how great and wonderful abortion is, but nobody can ever bring up the down side to abortion. To live without the devil's advocate is to live a sad life. Have fun in your little fantasy world where anti drug programs ae just funny things that do not actually involve any kind of drug use/prevention.

Just stop fucking messaging me about it. For every response I got I took another hit, and I had a great night, but unlike human stupidity, my supply isn't endless. I'd go on about you guys being douchebags and qqing bla bla bla but I really couldn't care less what you guys think anymore. Just stay the fuck away from me.

And for the record, if weed didn't exist, more people would jump straight to hard drugs. Marijuana isn't a gateway, it's a wall.

When it comes to Andrew Ryan, yes, that was a joke. From what I've heard about him, he's just some "Drugs are bad, m'kay?" guy who is bringing his own political opinion into a game that, from everything I know about Bioshock, has never explored the anti drug agenda. On a personal level, I don't really care for Bioshock. I never had any interest in getting it before or after I saw this thread. I just wanted to shoot some doucheyness back at Andrew.
*twitches slightly* I do hope this is sarcasm, but on to off chance that it isn't: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Ryan_%28BioShock%29

Ahh, yes, painting the world in black and white. That's always a fantastic thing to inflict upon our children. "All drugs are bad, and there is NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE TO THIS WAY OF THINKING. Clearly, anyone providing any scientific research which indicates the contrary is lying to you."
I think you (and many others - I just picked this one to respond) may be missing the forest for the trees. It seems to me that the artist here is deliberately taking a satirical approach to parody the anti-drug message so prevalent in today's society (American society anyway) by juxtaposing it with the fictional context of BioShock.

I find it very difficult to interpret this artwork as anti drug, which may be one of the reasons why I like it so much. Two thumbs up from me!

Andrew Ryan was a libertarian. As such, he would be opposed to unnecessary intrusions on the freedom of the people and drugs would likely be ignored by the government in Rapture (as they should be).

I don't like these pictures. Most drugs are less harmful than alcohol and cigarettes, some even have health benefits.

I prefer the honest informational approach, rather than "DON'T EVER DO THEM OR YOU WILL END UP SOULLESS."

And with this one line I'm now unsure if the entire post was a pro-marijuana screed or the cleverest anti-marijuana post in existence.

I don't know if you're joking or not but if you aren't you should realize that 2K (the people who created bioshock) didn't make this.

Bwahahahahhaahahaaaa! DARE was a HUGE FAILURE! Kids who were in DARE ended up with lower self esteem, and MORE likely to try drugs. All those "drugs are bad becasue they ae bad" people and slogans make me wanna smoke a huge bowl. We should educate children on the dangers of dangerous drugs, but do it the right way. Don't have some goodie two shoes like GI Joe come and and say "The only drugs you should do are America and steroids."

I had a convo with a friend who has had a very proper upbringing. We were talking about marijuana. I was up on my soapbox giving the same spill I just gave you guys, only more polite. He couldn't really back up any claims why marijuana is bad, until eventually he just said he didn't feel comfortable talking about it. We have programmed it into people's heads that weed is just this horrible thing that shouldn't exist.

Quit with all the preaching,You sound like a douche everyone has heard this before and cannabis effects everyone slightly differently.
And i hope that last part is a joke.

Well done, you've confused me more than I already was.
Well, my my. I got more than I bargained for on this one, haha.

For starters I am pro marijuana. Sometimes I fight fire with fire. When going up against DARE, I choose to also be narrow minded and smug. I did get carried away, I'm not denying that.

When it comes to Andrew Ryan, yes, that was a joke. I do have a very strong opinion on marijuana, and I am offended it has gotten the rep it has due to hidden agendas and greed, as well as the banning of marijuana being linked HEAVILY to racism. So whether you dislike me or my opinion, don't let it reflect negatively towards your own opinion about marijuana. I am by all means an extremist, it would seem.
Did you know marijuana isn't its name its a name of some Mexican plant, this started when the cotton industry launched an ad campaign to ban it because hemp could ruin cotton. It was called marijuana to confuse everyone further.

This really has nothing to do with DARE. It's a cheesy attempt at referencing 90's DARE propaganda in the context of Rapture. Kind of like how Bioshock references 1940's and 50's propaganda posters in the game, but not as clever. This isn't a promotion for DARE.

The literal-mindedness of some of you people makes me chuckle. Lighten up.

I'm curious what the first one is referencing. The one with the hand. The text looks familiar, but I can't place it.

Anyone else see the irony in having "A Man Chooses..." on a propaganda poster?

A man chooses, so do what I tell you.
