Wait, that can't be right. That's Bioware... and that's a ludicrously stupid statement.

Wow. Bioware is perhaps one of the biggest, Triple A, saga creating devlopers of the current times, and for the past 7 years they've been devloping games for PC and Consoles. Does this mean that they consider Mass Effect Galaxy to be their best game ever?

Saying that consoles are the past is stupid and saying that things like the freakin' Ipad are the future of games... is beyond stupid... It's it's RETARDORONIOTIC!

Oh yeah, it's that dumb.

is it just me or is anyone else sick of seeing "bioware thinks this" in the news on this site?
yes bioware employees you have an opinion good for you now go away and make games instead of critiquing everything.

BioWare just needs to shut the hell up...

Every day its something else. "MMO's are USELESS... BUY THE OLD REPUBLIC" "Consoles are GARBAGE... were developing for the iPod Touch!" and blahblahblah.

BioWare is a business that appeals to a certain group of gamers (one I proudly do not belong to). They are realizing that, in the market, its WAY easier to be gimmicky and earn money from a crowd that doesnt give a shit about them then to make a game crammed with 9 novels worth of material to give to their loyal fans. This is their way of justification. "Naw, motion controls and iPod Touches are where hardcore gaming is at". They're just selling out. More money in gimmicks then in quality

Last time I checked, handheld devices are consoles [http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/console] (scroll down to the second definition). Bad choice of words. If he's implying that developers should focus on more than just the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and/or Wii, then I won't debate the opinion.

I for one will say, "Shut up, and make more games, puppet."

Pachter is saying that the sales figures for console games are in "secular decline" and Kotick is talking about supporting PC/HDTV initiatives for games like CoD. A year or so ago when all the PC doom mongering was going on, as usual, I was saying that traditional console gaming was in more trouble than PC gaming and people scoffed. The only thing to comment about with those North American industry figures is that they don't even see Nintendo hardware as part of the proper console business. Nintendo is just some company taking money that should be theirs away from them and making hardware that they can't even release their multi-platform AAA games on.

Consoles are kid's gimmicks anyway. So no much care.

(Goes back to his inner kid)

EDIT: Can I have Mass Effect 3 now.

I'm taking it from that statement nobody at Bioware has ever played a game on the iPhone.

So what Mr Zeschuk is saying is that the future is Squintovision? That's a relief, I thought he was going to gush on about motion controls again. It's still a stupid idea though! I've never owned handhelds and I never will because I don't feel the need to play games everywhere I go; I can wait until I get home.

My respect for Bioware is sinking rapidly towards the black Egosoft abyss!

I think it is a viable option to expand their market base so long as they keep a hold of their roots. As an example: my network of friends and myself purchase more "single A" titles than "triple A" titles simply as a way to explore games that may break away from the formula. If a large company like Bioware were to step into the ring of low-budget and low-cost (to the gamers) productions, there may be some very unique games in the future. Or not.

Consoles keep the annoying Halo and xbox fanboys away from PC servers so getting rid of consoles may not be a wise decision.

wow, just reading the five first comments on this forum made me realize something.
1. The name of the story is not necessarily what the guy said. Even though the title says "Consoles are 'the past'" doesn't mean that the guy for whom the article is about said that.
2. On the contrary, he said he doesn't think consoles are the future, which is basically him saying that in order for the industry to progress (into the future), other avenues will be pursued instead of just consoles.
3. I am rather enjoying how just because ONE guy at a company says something and the story's title attributes the quote to the company and not the speaker makes most people believe that it is BioWare's opinion.
4. Also, he made a fair point. Most developers are trying to make AAA games when they just don't have the appeal and/or quality to land AAA returns. Sadly this isn't deterring developers and producers from designing games that attempt to be AAA, and for the safety measure of more likely earning more money they take the safe way out and release the same game over and over (with maybe one or two changes in between). This stifles the market and is the wrong thing to do while attempting to progress the industry.

I am quite sure there is more to be said, but anyways. I'm personally interested in seeing how the industry progresses in the next few years...

Hopefully for the better; I'd really hate to have to eat my words. >.<

Is it just me or should video game developers stop talking about the future of games and just focus on actually making the next giant leap in gaming? I feel like every other day there's some new hype or doom about the industry coming from one of its members.

Despite the fact that that biased comment ignores that there are also plenty of people similar to Halo players (in personality) on the PC, as well as the PS3 (wouldn't know tbh...), at least computers don't come with headsets/mics. People have to make the investment to be mic-spamming annoying

This pretty much boils down to, "We're paying attention to whats going on and we're not going to fall behind." Don't read too much into it.
