Violence is one of the reasons I play games. It very cathartic to be able to kill 500 citizens of new york and then throw a destroyed tank at a chopper.
Classic games like Super Mario Bros and Tetris. You know, the games the current up and coming game devs grew up playing and that probably got them into gaming.Fluffles said:What classic games :/yeah_so_no said:You do know that a lot of the classic games, the ones that got people into gaming, would be considered "casual" games by today's ridiculous standards? And why are "casual" games not "real" games? Because you don't like them?Fluffles said:We are talking about real games people! Not casual!
I mean casual games like the sims, or almost all the stuff on wii.
I could burn so much...
I agree that games without violence are possible... because they have been done before. but I also agree that violence makes more money

Heck, you don't even have to go to the bargain bin. Just google any game sales data for the last 10 years and you'll see plenty of non-violent games in the top ten.Therumancer said:Actually I feel this falls under the "duh" catagory since there are plenty of non-violent games. Look at the $9.99 casual gamer budget bin some time. Tons of puzzle games and such that don't seem to involve violence in any way, shape, or form. I'd also take a wild guess that most of the "Barbie" titles don't involve battle mechanics.
Woah, I really hope this was meant to be sarcastic. If not, you might want to lay off all the "manly talk" because when you lay it on too thick people start to think you are trying to hide something...Therumancer said:Now, will men ever really embrace non-violent/action based games? Probably not unless forced, despite all of the attempts to turn us into politically correct metrosexuals. Still there are plenty of girls, young children, and girly-men that doubtlessly play this stuff.
I mean heck, look at "The Sims" one of the best selling games ever, and it doesn't involve violence. Please note that guys who play this one probably keep really tight sequined pants somewhere in their wardrobe so I'm not sure if they count as "men" anymore. >
Also arguably racing games don't involve violence, but can be played by men simply because of the massive cars and really sweet crashes and such.

Doesn't Harvest Moon involve combat mechanics?Woe Is You said:Therumancer said:Now, will men ever really embrace non-violent/action based games? ...I wasn't aware I was forced to play Harvest Moon. Not that I don't enjoy games like Gears of War and/or Mass Effect, of course, but there's nothing wrong with a game like Harvest Moon either.
It's a forceful and demanding statement that causes the recipient mental stress.Abedeus said:Since when does OBJECTION!!! count as a violent verbality? I mean, as violence. I think that...13lackfriday said:*Cough* Verbal violence *Cough*Souplex said:*Cough* Ace attorney *Cough*
Oh, wait, Ace Attorney has violence! In the first game, Maya is shot with a tazer. That's damn violent, if you ask me.
LOL! *snort* Hahahahahahahah!!! Well, I'm not sure I can dispute it, but it is more of a challenge to overcome like Free Bird in Guitar Hero. No pain no gain.Johnn Johnston said:What about the torture scene?Indigo_Dingo said:We already have a widely successful series without fighting. Its called Rock Band.
If I recall correctly, it's called "Green Grass and High Tides."

I know a lot of people who like Harvest Moon, both male and female.Woe Is You said:Therumancer said:Now, will men ever really embrace non-violent/action based games? Actually, Phoenix was the one to get tazed. But she jumped into the line of fire and got shot herself. Don't worry, she was fine, she just passed out and for the next day, shocked everyone she touched.13lackfriday said:It's a forceful and demanding statement that causes the recipient mental stress.Abedeus said:Since when does OBJECTION!!! count as a violent verbality? Ahaha, that's hilarious.
What was she doing at the time? Beating someone with her handbag?
I"m pretending that I've never done that and that I am disgusted at the pure mentioning of doing so. I completely forgot that you could do that, and that if you show it to Weird Ed, he will kill you. Plus, that was only in the first so many Nintendo cartridges, and on all IBM PC versions. So I guess the game was violent.cobra_ky said:MICROWAVE HAMSTER.Nu-Hir said:I don't remember there being any violence in Maniac Mansion, unless you count draining the pool and letting the house's nuclear reactor explode.
remember kids, tazers give you superpowers!Abedeus said:Actually, Phoenix was the one to get tazed. But she jumped into the line of fire and got shot herself. Don't worry, she was fine, she just passed out and for the next day, shocked everyone she touched.
it was in every cartridge released in the U.S. and removed from the PAL release.Nu-Hir said:I"m pretending that I've never done that and that I am disgusted at the pure mentioning of doing so.
