Ladders and unique tactics were already in the previous Mass Effects. Do they mean they are going to expand on these? All they need to do to smarten the AI is to make them use cover intelligently.

Mass Effect 1&2 are both RPG/FPS. Battles were very improved in the second and the only issue i had were the clips.

Shoots and Ladders? Sounds like fun!
If the enemies get smarter, did they also make sure Wrex's fat ass won't run in front of me every time I try to snipe?
Ho ho ho, you and your puns.

What I'm really concerned about is the inventory mechanics, the first one's was overly tedious and the second's was almost non-existant, personally I would prefer a regular rpg-inventory.

Geez EA why are you so eager to kill Bioware? Is that your plan? Buy companies that were better than you, piss off their fans then kick them out again so you're on top?

Just put a gun to the head and pull the trigger already, end their misery.

Being a first-person shooter fan as well, I don't mind if Mass Effect 3's shooter mechanics are elevated towards the levels expected from "pure" shooters...

...As long as they don't also keep the RPG mechanics dumbed down like they were in ME2. And since BioWare have promised more than once to make improvements in that area for ME3, I don't expect to be disappointed.

I guess seeing is believing, because 'multi-tiered levels joined by ladders' sounds pretty damn frustrating and tedious to me.
I agree, and I also want to add that it's kind of silly to tout the ability to climb ladders as a great new gameplay mechanic.

Grand Theft Auto 4 did this in their interviews and it just sounded chuckle worthy.

Should we really be so impressed with this evolution in their game?

I say 'their game' because climbing ladders has sort of been a gaming staple for as long as I can remember.

Sure, it's cool the first time you gain an elavational advantage over your opponent but really it's just for kicks.

Ooooh, thank you, that made me laugh out loud.

It's already semi-automated isn't it? You just push a button. EDI could do it for you, so no one would even have to physically go up there.

Come on Bioware! These are the important things!

All I want...

All I want...

Is Mass Effect 2's combat with the original's RPG-ness. And more Tali. And Legion.
And armour.

Ooh, and can we paint the Normandy too? Can my fish not starve because I'm too busy saving the galaxy that someone else can't feed the blasted things for me?
Quoted both of you just to get your attention... you can actually have the Yeoman take care of that for you :p

As for the topic, quite simply, I'm looking forward to this. I haven't lost faith in Bioware at all. So they fucked up a little with Dragon Age 2... it was still a good game, just not AS good. Worse =/= bad. And right now, Mass Effect is there baby, so they're probably focusing most of their stuff on that. So I'm not worried.

To me Mass effect was a Shooter Based RPG anyways, so I don't mind. :p
ME2s combat > ME1s combat in my book.

Who cares? As much as you say it isn't an RPG, I say it is. Does that take anything away from it? No. It just means you define an RPG differently than what Mass Effect provides. It isn't wrong, per se, but I think in general, the negative bashing that comes with ranting at it supposedly not being an RPG is tiresome at best, and petulant at worst.

Mass Effect is unlike any other game I've played. I wouldn't want it to be like a Call of Duty shooter anymore than I would want it to be like a by-the-numbers RPG like Baldur's Gate. People just need to chill and love the Mass Effect for what it is.
Hrm... That's-!
...Hm.. Well It's just-
...
XD Okay, you got me. It's true that life is colored by perception, and that if someone enjoys something through a particular perception that doesn't hurt anybody/thing than there's no reason to try to change their POV. Just like I passed your test, you surprised me with this outlook.
There is something wrong here... we're having a logical and pleasant exchange of ideas on the interwebz?! I have to admit, my eyes are brimming with tears.

EVERYONE, LOOKS HERE! Someone who thinks ME2 is an RPG and someone who thinks it isn't an RPG are GETTING ALONG!!! We're the Romeo and Juliet of the modern day, but without the sex!

You can say that all the arguments I've gone through defending P4 and Oblivion from the MEW [Mass Effect Wankers (my term for those who jerk-off on the ME box because it's their one true religion or something)] has left me with a short fuse for Bioware's public speeches on their game and how they put down other genre when their games have the same "flaws".
That's awesome, because I have a short fuse from people always complaining that ME2 was dumbed down. I don't call them anything specifically, but I usually just say something about how they exist because I allow it, and that their heads will explode because I demand it. ;)

*snip* ...at the end of the day I guess it really doesn't matter how we define it so long as it's fun.
YES! THIS! Now we are grooving to the RPG & SHOOTER MUZAK!!!! *Shepard dance*

Glad you were as amiable as I hoped you were, mate! Hope you have fun with your ME3 RPG, because I hope I'll be having a blast with my ME3 shooter! :D
Hahahahaha! Best. Line. Ever. I wonder if the escapist can set up some sort of auto-reply for everyone who complains about the game either way with this. If I wasn't so lazy, I would take this a step further and draw a comic of two dudes running around the corner with Mass Effect in their hands and bumping into each other... "You got your shooter in my RPG!" "You got your RPG in my shooter!" and they both smile.

Want to make Mass Effect 3 perfect Bioware?

Get rid of the bloody idiotic thermal clip system. Over heating worked fine in Mass Effect. Don't fix it if it isn't broken.

Give us back the inventory system but scale back on micro-management a bit.

Bring back character progression. I liked the fact that at the beginning of Mass Effect I was barely a marine then built myself up to be y'know, Shepard.

And this is more of a personal gripe but please do something about Charge if you're going to keep it for Vanguards. What's the point in the ability if an AI enemy can lock me down simply by being behind cover?

there feels to be something wrong with the dragon age and mass effect series since origins and ME1, but what is it...oh, now i see, they have shifted everything to combat...

lets be serious, while the sequels still are heavily story based, there does seem to be a much larger focus on the combat when compared to the first ones, the combat is just icing on the cake, and im going to say this in capitals, IN MY OPINION.

i would much rather the advertsto be about how DAII was a tale about Hawke, but all i heard was "the combat is much more streamlined and is better on the console then DAO"...i play BIOWARE GAMES FOR THE STORY.

one little thing that would be cool, the subtitle under the title for 'mass effect 3' should be "Combat Perfected", teach halo a thing or two.

I agree with most of your points, save for this. While I do like that the skill progression was very distinct, it conflicted so badly with the story that it bugs me every time I go back to play. Shepard supposedly starts the game as an elite N7 operative yet he can't reliably hit a target 20 feet away? Something's amiss here.

I think I'll like the game. The story sounds promising and I loved the shooting in ME2. I never did make it through that, hope I'll get the energy once this comes out.

uhg sorry but your the most recent person who has made this comment and as such will get my feed back for all.

Ok now then ahm DRAGON AGE AND MASS EFFECT ARE DONE BY DIFFERENT TEAMS!(if anyone can tell me how to bold that i will) beleave it or not the guys who do mass effect probily dont even see the guys who did dragon age, hell they might be in different cities! Now i get it DA2 wasnt what you wanted so your gun shy well im happy to tell you that while your more then in the right to shy away from any future DA games your over reacting with ME3 you know the game that theyve been writeing for what now? 7 years?

BTW to all those who think ME2 was "dumbed down" it wasnt it was streamlined. Beleave what you will but mass effect is not an pure RPG nor is it a true third person shooter, its a hybrid of the two and a dam good one at that. If you cant find something you like in mass effect do us all a favor DONT PLAY IT! While i like seeing new gamers getting into what ibeleave is the best game series out there im sick and tired of people who go out get the game and then ***** and complain that bioware didnt make the game for them.
