Not saying being gay is bad (heathens!) but I don't think the shoudl just add someone to throw a nod to the gay community (or is it homosexual community, you can never tell with those guys)I think it's a cop out for not having it in the first two. Stand with what you started.
Its already confirmed that they are going to have a gay romances, as long as they don't retcon preexisting character it should be a non issue for you.

Even if it is done with preexisting characters, it wouldn't necessarily be a retcon. It would just mean that it hadn't come up before. It's entirely possible that they have been gay or bisexual the whole time, but you just haven't had a discussion about it. None of that stuff is really relevant to any of the conversations you had in ME1 or ME2.

I'll of course give this the benefit of the doubt until release, but Bioware has done a poor job of making interesting human squad mates up till now. The only memorable humans were Miranda for wearing high heels on a combat drop (I would not take her on missions for that reason alone) and Ashley for being a racist hick. Not a good track record there.

Honestly, if Tali, Garris, Wrex, or Mordin are options this guy was never going to be in my party anyway.

Pfftt... Anybody else predicting the "twist" that he is the token gay guy meant to spur the femme stereotype of gay males and show they kick ass too or am I just having a weird moment of insight that might also be cynicism?

It just seems kinda obvious to me because of what he supposedly looks like. Then again, I'm used to companies trying to be clever. So I suppose I need to officially label myself in the Wait and See camp. *dons t-shirt and whistles tune*

It will also be interesting to see if he's going to be one of the homosexual love interests in Mass Effect 3, or if that role belong to a different character, or indeed, characters.

Mass Effect 3 comes out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 6th.

I bet he adds a new kind of diversity to the game, and that isn't bad at all.

I know I shouldn't judge a guy by his looks, but this meat-head comes off like just the kind of guy I wouldn't like, and probably wouldn't be my first pick in a generic away mission. I hope he starts out has someone I don't like, then grows over the course of the game. It'd be great if he started out as really disliking Shepard and then comes around.

And if all else fails I need someone I don't like so I can send them on suicide missions.

Does this character not remind anyone else of the crazy dude in the Farcry 3 trailer? At least in the face, seeing as how we don't know any of the story behind him.

He looks like a total douchebag. I really want a Han Solo type of character in my Mass Effect.

If he's like Jayne from Firefly, then I'm all for it.
Absolutely! Jayne was brilliant in that he wasn't supposed to be likeable but wound up being one of the most loved of the bunch!

Of course Vega will have to get a silly hat...

It's interesting that a lot of people are writing him off as some kind of pitbull; a man interested only in shooting, punching and generally fucking up people's day.

To them I will say just one thing...

Grunt.

PS And I came to like Grunt very much, not least for his sarcastic sense of humour.

im sorry, but wasnt this character role already filled by grunt...and ashley? i understand the need for a player proxy to have everything explained to, but you have some 15 other characters who can believably fit that role; as i remember, they are all happy to spout exposition at a moments notice. just seems redundant; but of course bioware was possessed to expand a main cast already in the double digits, so redundancy is inevitable.

frankly, the guy looks like the situation and is meant to act like an ignorant meathead; how can there be any question as to what his character is? with a cast of...what, 16 now, most of which can be dead, i never had much hope for ME3's roster of teammates, and having the THIRD player proxy be your standard hulk-smash soldier with the added benefit of having the face and hair of an insufferable douchebag.....i dont have to wait and see for anything; there has yet to be an announcement about ME3 that has made me excited or wanting to anticipate anything, and the trend continues.

and WTF is up with your character design lately bioware?! i let jack slide because..i guess..it fit her character; but between samara's zipped down catsuit with high heels and isabella not wearing any pants, is it any wonder they settled on the jersey shore look for this guy? i honestly shudder to think what any other new characters might look like...

Here's hoping that the only reason this guy is in the game is because he knows the secret password to the Reaper mainframe. And for believability, that that password is the voice command "MEAT."

Otherwise Corporal Douche stays on the ship and cleans the space toilets unless he's voiced by either Hugh Jackman or Chris Evans.

I hope that's not the direction they take him in. Either Grunt or Sten is my least favorite BioWare character.

Sure but I can see how someone would complain about it, especially If they are suddenly attracted to Shepard without reason, and that especially If they've already been a romance option for the opposite gender. I trust the writers to handle it well either way.
