This subject matter has been addressed in a well done way by Red Letter Media on the recent Star Trek remake review. Today isn't like previous decades. We are constantly being flooded with media as the electronic and digital market has expanded throughout the world to insane levels. It is difficult to have any clue on what you should spend time on due to all the things you have to sort through.

In the end though, I'd say that this is simply a natural development as we've acquired more and more accessible technology.

Yes, and Bioware, you are contributing to the problem. You know what comes out in March 2011? Dragon Age 2. You know what will most likely release in April or May 2011? The Old Republic.

You know when my Spring Finals are? May 2011. Bioware wants me to fail college.

I dunno about too many, but I do agree that too many games come out in certain time intervals. The obvious one being October-November, but for some reason Spring 2011 has a whole lot of stuff too. It would be nice if the releases were spread out a bit better, and we didn't have crazy dry spells like we do in the Summer.

Happened with all forms of Media doens't it though?
It's happened with Music more so than any other, so much of it being pumped out nowadays, most of it tenapenny dross. But i see where the guy's coming from and it's making it hard for me to decide what'a worth sinking my money into nowadays without worrying about weather or not i'll get my money's worth.

"There's not really too much repetition; there's just a lot of really good experiences."

What a joke. "Hard to keep up". Wanna play all the military shooters? Seriously, this is part of making their own bathetic repititions (including their upcoming military shooter) look more fresh. I don't care for one word they utter any more. Pure marketing machines. They should call themselves "Failware". Corresponds with their strategy of nursing a trashy image ("this is the new shit"-trailers etc).

Actually, it comes out December 31 of this year.

OT: I agree. And although it may be hypocritical, it doesn't mean they are wrong.

No. Too many SIMILAR GAMES are being released.

Or, in case of BioWare, too many ALMOST IDENTICAL games... I just low how BW makes these statements while they do exactly the same thing they criticize.
Exactly right, Sykes. The part I hate most about shooters (and genres altogether) is how similar they are as of late. Black Ops is only on my soon-to-buy list for Nam Zombies, and Reach was Bungie's way of signing off from the Halo series with one last major cash cow (that didn't follow the actual "Fall of Reach" story).

Medal of Honor doesn't actually deserve to be lumped into this dime-a-dozen shooter category. They broke significant ground by taking the "fight" to today's conflicts, which is a nice touch, and had a rather fun single-player campaign as well as multiplayer. Fix the "cloning" problem and it will likely lead to better games that actually set themselves apart from the others in the genre.

If they'd said too many SHOOTERS are on th market I'd agree.. but some genres are too under represented.

RPG's for a start.. and I don't mean silly 'rpg lites' like bio's new direction.
Don't worry man. Deus Ex: Human Revolution coming out early next year. It's going to be amazing.

:( Dude.. it's being designed for console.. how 'good' can it be? It'll probably be better than IW, although that isn't saying very much.. that said.. I quite like IW.. wasn't very rpg-ish but it was an ok game as far as that goes.

There's an easy solution to too many games: lower prices. Only an idiot customer would complain about there being too much competition. They should chin up though, for linear one-pass gameplay, Mass Effect passes muster. For popular games with good replaybility, we have WoW and MW2, which shouldn't be too bad a burden on gamers.

What does? Dragon Age 2 is marked for March 8th and there is NO release date for SW:TOR other than the one John Riccitiello leaked out about Spring Quarter 2011. No open beta yet for the game either.

Sounds like a cocaine dealer complaining about the other guys flooding the market. He just doesn't want to deal with the cheep stuff (which, in a slight twist of irony, tends to come from EA) that tends to make up a good portion of the market.
since when does bioware belongs to EA ? Oh shit ! actually i've just discovered that since 2007 they were bought ! now i understand why they stopped making good games...

Donkey Kong Country Returns
Fallout: New Vegas
Call of Duty: Black Ops
4.0.1.a World of WarCraft
Kirby's Epic Yarn

Way yoo many to plow through if you are working full time. Let alone if you have kids. People who complain about 10 hour games probably don't have too much else going. >_>

It would be nicer if we got better games from March till September. We got what this year? Pokemon, Dragon Quest and Mario Galaxy 2. Yeah. 3 Games. What have we been hit with in the past 2 months?

New Vegas, Gran Turismo, Assbro, Halo Reach, COD, Medal of Honour, Epic Yarn (America), Epic Mickey, Goldeneye, Kingdom Hearts, Layton 3 and probably more I'm forgetting. Not to mention the likes of Donkey Kong and Golden Sun in the next 2 weeks.

Yeah. It's a tough time. I suppose if you have an X-Box and hate FPS games you're kinda safe tho.

I agree completely. A couple of years ago, I (felt like I) knew a lot more than I do know about the status quo in the industry because today there's just so much more to keep track of. However, this may just be my gradually decreasing free time, but I can still see where he's coming from.
