play fracture, you can shoot up a mound of dirt with a certain gun for cover, and it slowly gets blown awayrockingnic said:I don't mind shooters that use cover unless all the enemy is just using is the cover. I'm fine with CoD:MW 1 and 2. I find Gears really boring and it's not as epic as people claim because the gameplay is basically made up of enemies that either take cover for TOO long or enemies that blitz you out of cover then you become a target for everyone (a lot of the time it's both). The thing that would make cover based games great is if you cover was destroyable, reasonably (like in Battlefield: Bad Company) or if you could generate you own cover.
I did for a total of 30mins and was bored, not because of the cover system, but the fire fights were bland.gmaverick019 said:play fracture, you can shoot up a mound of dirt with a certain gun for cover, and it slowly gets blown away
And damn fun to play, although not very subtle.thenumberthirteen said:Oh Black. What a game that was. An FPS boiled down to the core.
So is regenerating health. Cover has always been in games though. After all, we'd all use the envirnment to our advantage to block incoming attacks. However, we found that cover, that small corner cut into the wall or that debris that if we ducked down would block us. I have no problem with games putting in a cover mechanic where if you truly get pinned down and you need to heal/reload/take a breather, you could retreat to that. However, every encounter throughout the game doesn't have to be a standstill where two people are waiting for the other to pop up. In fact, it's often the highlight of a fight for me when I'm forced out from my wall to run away from the giant enemy who can take tons of damage and has a devestating melee attack. It's like the game brings me back to the nostalgic days of the PS1 where I was running away from a boulder or a monster with the camera pointed at them and me having to dodge obstacles that come from the bottom of the screen. Only now, I've got a machine gun and the monster is actually killable.Shamus Young said:I think the other point is that it seems like ALL shooters are going this way. I don't mind a cover-based shooter now and again. But ALL cover ALL the time gets monotonous. Mix it up a bit. Cover is the new bullet time.
