Blizzard Reveals Mists of Pandaria Cinematic Trailer

On the topic of the cinematic, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Instead of the Big Bad Guy showing off, we get what I view as a well choreographed fight scene and some old fashioned Blizzard humour thrown into the mix, as well as some excellent gaming philosophy. It *almost* makes me want to explore the game again and take the time to rediscover myself and find out, 'What is worth fight for?'

On the other hand, what is going to be 'different' about the gameplay this time around? When I left three months into Cataclysm after seven years of playing, I had bars filled with buttons. I had the same kill/collect/escort quests. I had the same gear grind. I had the same raid experience as when I played Burning Crusade. Sure, there were more bad guys to fight, but nothing had really changed.

Also, during one of the quest preview vids I saw someone digging up rocks in a field.. really? Is that supposed to be fun?

You almost hooked me, Blizzard. Almost. "IF" (and that seems to be a big if) Guild Wars 2 flops (attempt at elimination of the Holy Trinity Tank/Healer/DPS), if Planetside 2 flops (MMOFPS, thousands of players a continent, Battelfield mechanics and gun play, teamwork and coordination is key), if I give Secret World a go and I cannot get into it (streamlined combat, customizable, emphasis on completing questlines vs shotgun questing approach), we'll see if I pick this up again.

That does look fantastic.

*Browses MMO-C, seeing people ***** about Kung-Fu Pandas and lack of RARGH GRIMDARK WHY ORC AND HUMAN FIGHT TOGETHERRRRRR.

I expected more from The Escapist, but no, first comment.
Oh C'mon!
Remember Warcraft III Reign of Chaos entry cinematic?
Orc and Human fighting against eachother, then the Infernals came down and killed both fo them. I doubt they went for a triple threath match but I actually think the Ork and the Footsoldier joined up there too for a fast tag team 2 on 1.

Great cinematic as always Blizzard, but nope, still not going to play WoW.

Blizzard really can't win. People have been asking for Pandaren since BC, and they've been a part of the game's universe since well before the Kung Fu Panda movie. Now they finally get it, and legions of children are bitching about "pandering to kids with Kung Fu Panda crap."
Well you see people did want them to add Pandaren. But Kung Fu Panda came out so now they're too mainstream.
Asians depicted as panda's has been cliche long before Kung Fu Panda. Why not add Indians as Elephants next? how about a Canadian Moose? Russian Bears, American Eagles, South American Jaguars, African Zebras, French Frogs... x_x original.

So where were the hordes of haters for the Mongolian Centuars/Horse-people? Or the money loving big-nosed Goblins? Or the Inuit Walrus people? Or the Native American Bison people?

If you're going to hold somebody to a Standard, the least you could do would be to make sure said standard is consistently applied.

Say whatever you want about Blizzard or WoW, but when it comes to cinematics, no one can beat them.

Now if they can only put that effort into, ya know, making more content and getting stuff released in reasonable amounts of time.

If WoW is anything, it's constant in it's reliance on cliche's. There are also it's constant pop culture references and wholesale theft of Tolkien races.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I haaaated the inclusion of Walrus People. They're worse than the pandas.

I liked it. Reminded me of the Blizzard I loved when I was a kid, had humour, and not the horse-shit cataclysm humour, but humour that in the situation made sense. Had a pretty fight, gave a feel (or possible) feel of the zone...yeah, I liked it.

Beats a dragon (even if it is Deathwing) banging on about how much he loves to give pain. Or was in pain. Whatever.

I knew there was a reason why I've stayed away from MoP coverage; it's always plagued by the same "LOL kung fu panda." crap. We get it already, Jack Black and Dreamworks made a mediocre set of movies with a panda as the main character. Grats, you have outed Blizzard's devious subterfuge.

Still I remain surprised how many people wrote off the expansion as soon as they heard it even involved the pandarans. They should have at least waited until Blizzard started revealing it's awful overhauls to the talent system. (read: replaced it with the Warhammer Online system of perks)

Still the cinematic is great. It's a nice change of pace to finally get out from under the "X villain is here to kick ass and chew bubblegum. Guess which one he's all out of?" tone that all the previous expansions have had. I mean seriously, it's been three back to back ultimate evils that Azeroth has had to fend off. It's about time they get a reprieve long enough to return to beating the piss out of one another.

Oh, and people gushing about "Pandarens came before Kung Fu Panda!" I have this to say:

Here's concept art from the Pandaren from Warcraft 3:

Notice anything weird? Yup, he's slim. There's also no mention of Pandaren's cooking to this guy. They just like to brew ale and fight.

Now, fast forward to 2007, and dreamworks release a pretty popular movie starring Jack Black as an overwight Panda who is a good cook and fights by bouncing off things, let's look at some of the Pandaren's passive abilities, shall we?

[Epicurean] - Passive
Increases the stat benefits from food by 100%.

[Gourmand] - Passive
Cooking skill increased by 15.

[Bouncy] - Passive
You take 50% less falling damage.

Notice anything similar?
Yeah, much as I hate to admit it that freaking movie sadly left it's mark on the development of the race. I've already braced myself for the badly lamp-shaded references to it.

Just need a Finger Hold attack for the Monks to make it complete.

The way I see it, bitching about pandas in WoW is the next arrow to the knee. It's not clever, not insightful, not funny, and people are just saying it because everyone else is saying it. There is already plenty of stupid shit...

While I might not be playing WoW anymore and won't be any time soon, this made me smile.

Blizzard just needs to make movies. Or whoever is making their trailers anyway.

Not a bad trailer. I could have done with less "kung Fu Panda meets Pirates of the Caribean" and some of the humor. But it still has Blizzards normal degree of charm. The music is truly fantastic, some of the best they have produced.

Overall I would say this cinematic is better than TBC or Cata, but not as good as the original, and nowhere near as compelling as Lich King.

As far as gameplay? I've been in beta. It's good. The monks are fun. The zones and environment is fantastic. Not really revolutionary, but a nice enhancement of the familiar gameplay.

Trailer was pretty epic and I laughed when the monk takes back the wood off the Orc and reattach's it to the bridge then straightens it out with his staff.

Still not going back to WoW.

I have to admit i was charmed by this :)

I guess they knew a serious panda was a little too hard to pull of so the humor was a good way to go.

As a former wow addict im half considering giving this a look

This is why I stopped playing WoW.
Fucking Pandas.
Sure WoW was silly to begin with, but this is just ridiculous.
And they're as stereotypical as the bloody Jamaican trolls.
