Seriously - why do we need to get away from "slaughter X of type Y"?

If I just want to level a character very fast to enjoy the endgame I do not need big storys or complicated quests where I got to read the text first. I just want to need where to go und which dudes to kill.
Because no game developer should purposefully make an entire section of their game useless or boring. If a studio is going to design a game with leveling, it should make leveling interesting, fun, and necessary. If the only plan is to make it all easy and pointless, then they're better off cutting it from the game entirely.

Of course, that an interesting idea. What if someone made a game that was nothing but "endgame"? Y'know like raiding and PvP, except there's no levels, only tiers of gear. I wonder if that would sell well at all.

The difference is the company making the claim.

If Blizzard, Bioware or Valve tells me "it'll be really, really good" then my objections are pretty much quashed right out of the gate.

Ion Storm, not so much.
I don't think I'd include BioWare in that list. Sure they make good games, but nothing out of this world.
I, however, would; and since I was talking about me... ;-)

Maybe it'll be for free so I can play it :D. *in denial*
You may be onto something; If anyone can afford to support a F2P MMO it's them. Hell, Diablo 2 still has more players than a lot of the MMOs out there, all for free.

And that would definitely make it not compete with WoW...

I'll bet anyone $5 that it'll still have a fetch quest or make us kill 10 giraffes, just for old time's sake.
Haha, I actually saw this as a problem with the Starcraft 2 campaign. They put so much effort into making each level 'unique' and 'original', that by the end I was wondering what happened to the levels that just let me build up a base and crush the enemy at my own leisure, without any sort of wierd restrictions or objectives? Just because it usually gets overdone doesn't mean it should be scrapped outright... just don't over do it.
Hopefully Heart of hte Swarm(a game I'd much rather see released than this mmo tripe), will return to more that kind of thing. Or hopefully Legacy the Void will do that even more. I think they were experimenting and having too good of a time finding different things to do with their new engine and now that's behind us it should get less silly.

Well I'm glad to see their marketing ploy is to get everyone hyped on... nothing. Really. All we have is a "project titan" and the fact that "it'll be good. " complementary than competitive? What the hell does that even mean? I'll be able to export my Tauren warrior into the new game? That would be awesome... especially if it meant upgraded character models. Otherwise they should hoepfully keep all games open on the same subscription.

I've enjoyed WoW for a few years now, but ever since half of their department left for this new project, the clissic MMO, even with all its burnt world charm is getting old fast. Especially with the recycleing of content now. 4 old world heroic dungeons?

Them being cryptic about their new project may not be enough to hold my interest if all we have is their word that its going to be special, especially with " many years to come" being their target release date. If they can release a single screenshot that could tell me what they had in mind, maybe I they would have my attention. For now, I'm taking a break from wow, and holding out for Guild Wars 2.

Blizzard is lying. They know full well you can't play more than one MMO at a time.

Blow my mind?!
That's it! I'm buying it on release just to be able to say that I did.

Oh wow! I'm so super hyped for this MMO now because Blizzard said it would be good! It doesn't matter that I don't know the classes, the setting, or even the real name yet! Because some guy I never heard of before told my favourite internet news site it's going to be good, I totally and completely believe him!

Yeah.

Seriously, games tend to flop because of over hype. Starting this early without even a screen shot or actual title is not going to help you.

And it's going to be Starcraft. They just don't want to admit it yet.

When I saw this headline, I initially thought it was a joke response to that "joke" from Bungie.

GOD DAMNIT BLIZZ! Another one? Another update that says absolutely NOTHING about what the new game is going to be like? I'm cautiously hopeful that Blizz will prove to be the undisputed King of MMORPGs by taking LEAPS forward with Titan but Blizzard's ability to say so little with so many words and STILL provoke a reaction is astonishing!

I'm really tired of them making announcements that have absolutely zero content in them. "We're doing a new game, it'll be great!" and then "It'll be really, really awesome!" and finally "No, really, you have no idea. Here's a secret, it'll be like WoW, sort of, only a lot better."

I get it, they're really excited for their new property. Oh, and they want people to play both WoW and their new game. Well, again, that's hardly a surprise. Apple hopes you buy all their products too, not just an iPhone.

I say this as a huge Blizzard fan that owns and has played all their games over the years, so I really would like them to give us something more concrete. Otherwise, they'll hype it up so much that when specifics are released, it'll feel underwhelming.
You realize that it's the journalists that hound them for comments and that Blizzard isn't the ones making the same announcements over and over?
Right?
It's a recent interview and they're saying the same vague stuff, so I'm going to comment on their continued lack of specifics and meaningless spouting of hype.

They do realize that people can only spend their lives playing one game or the other right? Your new MMO has to compete with WoW just as much as any other game and Blizzard might end up losing to themselves.

SO THATS WHY DIABLO III IS STILL NOT COMMING OUT! (despite having a completely functional graphics and physics engine 3 years ago) IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!

(and for those thinking they should take their time to make a sweet game - no - ok? Think about it - Mass Effect 2 was a completely revamped game, with a new engine, and new combat, new skill mechanics, DIALOGUE, and a complex story and it was in production for what, two years start to finish? Yea. There is no way you can not get 5 classes fun and polished and ship the game out with nice campaign and pvp, unless there are 2 people allocated to that project - which is obviously the case. Come on blizzard!

I'd snort and roll my eyes but it's blizzard. Them saying this shit is, at this point, more "duh", then "Wuh?"
