BlizzCon '09: Blizzard Announces WoW: Cataclysm

It's about time they start giving the Old World (and Old World instances) some love. This is looking to be my favorite expansion yet!

Also, I was wondering why they would let Trolls be druids, giving Horde two and Alliance one. With the storyline behind the Worgen joining the Alliance, I could see the Night Elves teaching the Worgen a thing or two about the way of the Druid (seeing as how they are all ready in an animal form, I could see them being closer to nature than most). I just hope they give the new Druids new forms (shouldn't be too hard: Trolls get forms with tusks and voodoo beads, Worgen get forms with large fangs and other wolf-like features)

40man raids were fail end off, ooh looky I can sit here and be carried, the hardest part of 40mans was getting and keeping 40 ppl in the same guild that could raid. Long may they remain dead!

The races are a bit off but meh fun > lore any day

I can understand why people want to leave the game, but why on earth would seeing this announcement of some pretty cool stuff make you want to leave MORE? It's all getting added, and it's probably taking tons of work. I don't see why that's a bad thing.

Here are MY reasons:

Reshaping the land - awesome. I am all for.
Revamp of old dungeons - hell yeah!
New races Worgen and Goblin - What?! Where the F are my Pandarians?!
All classes available to all races - ... Seriously? You've just killed "the flavor". I give up... Cant wait to see a 40 man raid made entirely of Elfs...
Oh wait! 40 man raids have been dead since the previous expansion.

In other news, StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 are being delayed for another 1-5 years.

I'm really surprised people still play, I quit when the first expansion came out and ruined the game the first time.

I believe that is called your opinion and your entitled to it, but please don't try and tell me and the others who play WoW still what we are meant to like and enjoy. I'm old/ugly enough to decide that on my own.

Nah. Current WoW is so much better than Classic *ever* was. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

Damn, I was hoping murlocs woulda become a playable race, they are much better than both goblins and worgen. Since they already run at like 45623464567167% normal run speed you wouldn't even have to give them a mount (maybe a turtle to make them go slower)

But that does raise an interesting question. What are the worgen going to have as a mount? Or are they just gonna drop on all fours and run like that?

Looking forward to your report. It does look very slick and compelling - Blizzard does know by now how to cater to the wants: flying in Azeroth, reshaping the old world (which went extremely dead, post-Wrath), legacy dungeon love (way to kill the "Heroic Deadmines" joke). They're good, I give 'em that. They know how to put the candy dish right in front.

Unlike many ex-WoW players (or those who talk of quitting but somehow don't manage to successfully navigate the quit process), I don't get the hate and continued bitterness. If you push yourself too far playing or you get hung up on the game changes and evolves over time so that you can't manage anything but bitter after you quit, that's your issue, not WoW's, not Blizzard's, really.

I'm not entirely convinced there's enough there for resubscribing on my part and giving it another spin, but as always, the devil's in the details. I am however, enjoying seeing what's being put up to offer.

Given the leaks though there weren't that many surprises this time. Yet. Unfortunately. Oh well.
