Linkara says it best, and because I am not him I can't say it any where near as good so I won't bother trying. I will point this out: He is down right disgusted by how much psudo-nudity is in comics these days. Don't get me wrong, it isn't like nudity is a bad thing, but you know it is pretty bad when a straight guy is sick of seeing all the tits and arse being portrayed for the sole purpose of portraying tits and arse.

So... I guess I can say this is NOT NEW, twice so given this was a comic from the 80's! How can you not buy a comic, particularly if you are a fan of the medium, and not expect to get more of the same arse and tit action that has always been a core part of the comic world?

This just in: Stupid parents blame anything but themselves when they realise just what they where purchasing their kid.

No wait... that isn't new either!

Gotta admit this kinda overreaction makes me want to wire a projector to the side of my car and hold a screening of some hardcore pornos on the side of these people's houses, just so they understand that a circle with a dot in the middle isn't the same as the dark lord's uprising of the apocalypse.

However, she did buy a family friendly pack, sealed, and it should have been safe, but, it was a glitch, not a deliberate attempt to pervert morality, and why did she go to TV when she didn#t want to be shown?

We as a species really need some rule where you can slap people when they go to TV stations, or newspapers, or just plain sue, when the rational thing to do is go to the person who caused the minor event that displeased you and get a simple apology and an assurance that things will change to prevent a repeat of said bad thing.

I'm guessing that news channel generally reports on people's bins being knocked over by 'youths' and that a stoat broke into the local church and ate some wafers.

This breaking story seemed to get them excited like a terrorist attack.

In short, bad thing, but human error in packaging, simple 'sorry' and recall would have fixed it, no need for a news channel, get back to reporting some news.

Just wish they'd apologised by giving the kid a full set of the 'Preacher' collection.

'Hey it said Preacher on it, I figured there couldn't be ANYTHING offensive or bad in that, must be bible stories right?'

(Of course, bible stories are one of the biggest sources of smiting and begatting in history, but for some reason that's ok, and that's a topic for a whole new thread.)

NOTE: I know there's no proof they were mormons or even religious, but I've never let that stop me mid rant before, so why start now? :D

Holy fuck some people need a brain. That mother should have scanned the book before just giving it to her son. I won't lie, if I had a ten-year old kid I wouldn't want him seeing tits so early.

Well, let's not blame the comic book world here. Blame the stupid retailers, they're the ones who didn't see that it was adult comics.
They come in prepackaged sealed bags of two comics and it says family friendly on them. You cant blame the store for that you have to blame the company that created the packages.
Oh...Well, let's blame them then!

Sorry I really wasn't trying to imply that utah=mormons. Im just saying that odds are he is LDS. And this would be offensive to someone of the mormon religion. My wife and her family are mormon (im not and she doesn't currently go to church) so I'm not hatin'. Ive been to SLC a few times and the surrounding cities and its really nice there. I totally agree though that the company that packaged these "family" comics have no quality control. This was at dollar tree which if you have ever been to one should not be surprised that this happened as their entire range of products are schlock.
No worries. I know what you meant, but others might not. I'm just trying to keep the hate fires from starting.

Edit: nevermind. It's the internet, after all.

yeah... why cant they just move the comic to the adult comic section of the store instead of taking them all off and ruining it for everyone. plus, the kid might turn out to be gay :p

The media coverage seems fair, and places the blame more with the suppliers to the store, who packaged random old comics into kid friendly sealed packets so you can't tell what you get before you buy.

Whoever is sticking them in the packets are the ones that need to sort it out! (Consiquently if I got that at 10, I'd probably have hidden that away and never tell me mum! What you recon he actually got caught? lol)

holy shit people are retarded these days, aren't they?
Especially news networks. I mean look at that dickhole corey worthington, he fucked up his parents place with a party and for some reason they put him on the news and now he's one of the most infamous douchebags in australia.

And the worst part is? He's probably fucked heaps of chicks because he was on tv. :/

Also, why are tits so shocking for a child, surely he spent the first few months staring at em close up a few times a day...then ya move on, who decides that tits are good...then BAD for about 16 years...then good again? They're dinner, then they're entertaining, get over it.

Usually I'd say "Dumb mum should have read the fucking age restriction". But I can't.

As comics become more and more popular (and what with all the Superhero movies now they are) they're going to have to start getting ratings.

Funny how girl magazines (I used the french mag "Cool!" for reference):

- ridiculously oversexualize pre-teen girls,

- basically have a message that says you're nothing and you don't deserve being alive if you are not a supermodel,

- and it is more important to be pretty and buy cosmetics and do what's trendy than being smart. I also notice there's nothing to promote education and career choice,

- And they also advertise sexy clothes and skin products that, of all things, INCREASE YOUR TITTIES SIZE FOR THE EXACT PURPOSE OF EVERY BOY ON THIS PLANET SEEING THEM...

But then boy sees titties and all hell breaks loose. I'd like the mother to consider this.

The violent looking man on the front didn't scare the boy, but a pair of breasts did? Seems like momma wasn't to thorough when explaining about the birds and the bees.

Well i'm wondering if it's a media/political stunt to begin with. The behavior is uncharateristic from the kid (as people have pointed out), and right now one of the defenses used against "moral censorship" of things like TV and Video games is specifically to point to the old Comics Code Authority, and the hype that used to surround comics as a way of pointing out how stupid it is to go after video games, TV, movies, etc... on similar grounds. With this arguement being used more and more, I find it ironic that we now have an incident/arguement similar to those being made right before the rise of the CCA, albeit at the time fingers were largely being pointed at horror comics (Tales From The Crypt, Vault Of Horror, etc...) more than the super hero genere even if it was also hit.

With the pictures censored it's hard for me to really judge them, but honestly comics have ALWAYS been about T&A, innuendo, and violence. Starting from the earliest days when they derived from pulps, all the way to current day, with the CCA representing a somewhat ironic change in the material due to unconstitutional (at least in the US) regulation.

Without looking at this specifically, it's hard to say whether it's pushing the limits for a 10 year old, or simply offensive to a parent who has some odd ideas about what is normal for a 10 year old.

People today, especially left wingers who live sheltered in the suburbs or fairly urban enviroments, get some REALLY wierd ideas. I for example look at a recent article here on The Escapist talking about the "brutality" of Viva Pinata because of it's portrayal of what it is to farm, along with animals becoming sick, dying, breeding, and the need to kill other animals to preserve the farm (such as vermin/varmits). When someone looks at this as being dark and brutal I think there is a problem, and it makes me wonder what people think about all the kids growing up through history on farms (and those who still do) where this kind of thing is simply reality.

When I look at people freaking about a 1980s copy of "The Spectre" and commenting on farm games using words like "brutality", I can't help but wonder how a lot of these peoples would react to some 10 year old sitting around popping squirrels with a .22 rifle.... and stuff like that is why I'm one of those who believes in firearms instruction for kids as being a way to avert accidents.

I can't wait until someone gets the idea of screaming child abuse when it's discovered that some 8 to 10 year old who helps with farm chores understands sex and pregnancy as a concept from working with chickens, has witnesses and perhaps assisted with animal childbirth, milks cows (and understands what exactly they are doing) and perhaps even intentionally killed animals like squirrels, crows, and weasels. OMG abusive...
