That stuff is pretty funny. Store owner should've thought that The Spectre is probably never child appropriate...

The Mom going to the media? Maybe she was trying to spice up the local news cycle away from another goddamned hunting story in Ogden...

Quite pleased that this hasn't caused a backlash against comic books and all, the news story didn't seem to blame them and just put it down to an unfortunate mix up.
Comic Books are okay, it is VIDEO GAMES that are made by the devil himself... Barak Obama!
I wondered if some one was going to make a "VIDEO GAMES R EVIL" comment.
As for your political opion, I would keep that to your self.
It was a joke ya doof -_-

Do You Mean the "it is VIDEO GAMES that are made by the devil himself" comment, are the "devil himself... Barak Obama" comment, are both.

If you were jokeing about VIDEO GAMES being made by the devil himself,I knew that It was I just was wondering when someone would make a refrence to the whole "VIDEO GAMES R EVIL" BS now that Comic books might be next.
As for the "devil himself... Barak Obama" thing......Well if it was a joke.......My bad.

Sorry I really wasn't trying to imply that utah=mormons. Im just saying that odds are he is LDS. And this would be offensive to someone of the mormon religion. My wife and her family are mormon (im not and she doesn't currently go to church) so I'm not hatin'. Ive been to SLC a few times and the surrounding cities and its really nice there. I totally agree though that the company that packaged these "family" comics have no quality control. This was at dollar tree which if you have ever been to one should not be surprised that this happened as their entire range of products are schlock.
No worries. I know what you meant, but others might not. I'm just trying to keep the hate fires from starting.
It wouldn't be offensive to someone of the Mormon religion, it would be offensive to anyone who wants to try and control what their 10 year old sees. My whole family, including me and my wife, are active and practicing Mormons and most of us love comics, including the pink bits. It is prejudice to assume that a person would over freak out over an issue like this because they are Mormon.

The issue here isn't nudity = bad or Mormons + Nudity = Anger. The issue is family friendly comics should not include graphic nudity or violence.

I like that the kid told his mom what he found. It's funny that so many people in the video game community like to say that it's the parents job to control what their kid is exposed to, but when parents do such a good job at it that their kid, you know, does what they are asked to do, the kid -a 10 year old kid- is opened to all kinds of sophomoric abuse from a community who said the parents should do what they did in the first place.

Yes the mother was an idiot for going to the news with it. I like the step-dad's reaction. He was chill about the whole thing. That's the way most people would act. If my kids told me they saw nudity in an unexpected place, or in something that I gave to them, it would be an opportunity for discussion and learning. When I was a kid I found a stack of playboys in the woods. I told my dad about them and he used the experience to have a very important talk to me (not THE talk, that happened way before). There was no freaking out because...

That is what good parents do.

The female body is indeed a disgusting, terrifying thing.

And the kid's name is Sheldyn, and he's kicking up a fuss about a problem with a comic book? This has 'The Big Bang Theory' written all over it.

It's almost like you just tried to... called someone else stupid. And failed miserably. Weird.

OT: Nobody in this scenario should have cared that much.

You share my thoughts exactly. I merely mean to separate the issue of "bad parenting / irresponsible business practices" from "Mormon / prude." I have since given up in my endeavor, as I see that few on the internet are capable of making such a distinction.

Yes...the mom is stupid and what she did, or didn't do, is a great example of stupidity.
EDIT: I misspelled a word.
Big Deal.

The kids gay. any regular 10 year old would have stashed that shit under his bed. That or he's an alien.
in 6 years the 10 year old will realise that hes had given up porn, and will be so embaressed around his friends
"youre gay"
"no you are you gave up porn"
hard to argue with the evidence, circumstancial as it may be
[i am not homophobic, this is all in the pursuit of comedy :)]

Aside from the obvious implication that the kid may in fact be gay (or Mormon seeing as they are in Utah... good parenting? This is actually more of a compliment than an insult) I was surprised to see how conservatively the story was handled. Usually the media blows this stuff up, but hey handled it rather objectively. Kudos Utah.

The kid is a snitch. What ever happened to the 80's kid that finds some sort of pornographic material and instead of running to mom they run to their friends to show how cool the content was and how adult it was?
you guys pretty much summed up my thoughts

Thank you for not associating us Mormons with being prude. I do appreciate it. But I have to agree, most Mormons are really stuck up and stupid. It drives me nuts when they talk about stuff like this on our local news.

In six years time he'll probably kick himself for this course of action.
Thank you mother nature for the blight that is puberty :)

Seriously, at least look at the cover or flip through it for a second...

It's like buying a copy of Dante's Inferno for your kid without noticing the giant M on the cover or the guy with the scythe...

I watched the vid and this what the boy said.

"I seen a naked lady and got mad."

A 10 year old boy said that.

A 10 year old boy saw boobs in a comic book and got mad.

A 10 year old boy. Got mad. About boobs. Mad.

Anger. About boobs. From a boy just starting puberty.

I'm gonna say it... Utah ruins 10 year old boys.

Okay, perhaps I will be the one idiot here to say this, but I'm used to playing the idiot part. Here goes: I do feel really bad for the little guy, for getting mad, I guess, because he received something so far from his expectations, he was dissapointed. So he didn't want something like that in his comics, he was looking forward to a comic for a ten year old boy, so what. What's so bad about getting mad for having something you don't want. Even boobs. I believe his reaction was perfectly inderstandible and normal. Don't see anything wrong with freaking out if you feel that way. Let me remind you of the peolple complaining about "I hit it with my axe" and the boobs there or the Playboy compain for a game I don't even remember. The boy didn't want any boobs or nudity in the comic, he wanted a normal for his age comic. He has the right to get mad. The only problem I have with this is the stupid mother. What a normal person SHOULD do i he or she should talt to their bundle of joy and calm him\\her and then go yell to the person who is selling this, because it's their falt or the firm\\people, who supply them, for fucking up the labels in the first plase. Going to the press is just silly. Like my favourite little girl from The Animaniacs shows Mindy used to say: Buttons, you silly puppy. My sentiments exactly. I apologize for any spelling mistakes, not my native language.
